Sports Illustrated just published predictions from nine of their writers on how the playoffs will play out. Here's the link:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/01/07/expert.picks/index.html

All nine of them pick the Packers to beat the Cardinals, five of them pick the Packers to make it to the Super Bowl, and one of them picks the Packers to win it all.

So I guess this means that the Packers can forget about sneaking up on anyone in the postseason.

ahh holy shit is right - notice most guys pick the chargers also more then the colts for taking it all.

seems like the guys giving momentum a strong hand in who will win. I like it.

I hope that's not a version of the Sports Illustrated cover kiss of death.

Oh, man. Kerry J. Byrne's scenario is just perfect.

Have to agree with most of those scenarios. The Chargers are on fire. I don't know if anyone can beat them if they keep playing the way they've been doing lately.

I'm betting that this thing will be printed and displayed prominently on the wall of the Arizona Cardinals' locker room.

If they need that to get motivated to play, they shouldn't be in the NFL.

I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't feel those types of things have an effect on how a person or team performs.

edit: if they're a professional, anyway

It's hard to tell. Football is a very emotional game, so I think sometimes it does have an effect. But probably more in the regular season than in the postseason. In the playoffs, both teams are usually totally psyched up to begin with--as they should be, with the season on the line.

Well if we were playing the SI writers then there I don't would be no sneaking up. I don't think we are anywhere near under the radar with a 7-1 finish anyway. So if we can't surprise them why not be on top.

On a whim, I went to NFL.com and watched the highlights from every game this year, and one thing stood out - the prevent stuff that Capers uses just doesn't work. It failed miserably against the Vikings, it nearly cost the Packers against the 49ers and it killed them against the Steelers.

I hope that Capers has learned from this during the season, because there's plenty of examples of it not working.

I don't know if this is just a Packers phenomenon, but I don't think I've ever seen the prevent work for more than maybe a drive, maybe 1/3 of the time, ever. Unless you have 20 seconds to defend 90 yards.

It baffles me that the Prevent still gets used as often as it does in the NFL. If you've blitzed all day long, and it's been paying off - why back off when there's little time left on the clock? Whoever started this belief should be shot.

I know.
I have seen the "prevent defense" prevent the team using it to win more times then not.
