Who will make millions? Companies who benefit from the movement (GE comes to mind), and more specifically, governments and the carbon credit brokers who all happen to be tied in one way or another to Al Gore and his merry band of chicken littles.

And let me ask you this..why is it wrong to want to keep what I earn? I am happy to pay taxes for the good of this nation, but why is it greedy to want to keep what I work for. Is it not truly greedy for you to take from soemone to give to someone else who is less productive, or to some world organization whose motives I question?

Re-read the post mass...I did not say researchers were making billions..I said billions were at stake in the overarching totality of the movement, and that researchers' livelihoods depended on a very specific opinion. When you made the statement that jobs/wages were all they got, I questioned that with the possibility/probability that they are getting a little something on the side from their keepers...and I do beleive they are kept creatures on a short leash.

As has been noted, trillions are at stake on the other side. Hell, the world's economy is pushed and pulled by oil. The money argument needs to cease to exist, and now. It's peripheral to the main discussion anyway, which should revolve around research findings. I have said before that I have a major issue with fabricating data. Anyone proven to fabricate data will never get another grant in their life from "your pockets" (i.e. NIH funding), I guarantee you that.
What is it that you are arguing for here? To cease all environmental research?

What I am arguing for is to have the politics and money taken out of the scientific pursuit. Is that too much to ask? Science, by all of my observations, is politicized...never a good thing.

With this said, off for a long weekend! Thank you for the robust debate/discussion Mass/Tripp...always enjoy sharing of opinons, especially when they are inverse to my own.

Now...onto the important matters at hand..."Go Pack....kick some birdie ass this Sunday!!"

Hopefully, the world will still be here Monday so that we can discuss it!! LOL

Hey Porky.....once again..follow the money. Scientists and universities are making a fortune of this ruse in the form of national and international grants. Science has been corrupted by politics and money.

One question...were you actually serious when you asked if we had looked at the sun lately, and if it has gotten any bigger? Are you kidding me? It is not the size of the ball in the sky, but the extent of increase/decrease of the solar energy it produces..which is also known to be cyclic..

Is this really how far the debate has sunk...the physical size of the sun in the sky? We are fucking doomed.....

And furthermore, don't you find it questionable that the left views companies who provide products and goods used by all, and who make profits (for shame!) in doing so are labeled as "greedy", when trial lawyers and the environmental movement, who produce nothing and only take from us, are considered saviors?

For the record, I despise both parties and have strong libertarian leanings...so please do not hit me up with the "right wing whacko" label..I am merely responding th an American/world left whose motives have been clear for decades to anyone paying the fuck attention.

Of course scientists and universities will make money. People will profit from it if things stay the same too. There is always someone out there too make money off of a choice people make. A republican comes out and says it's a hoax and he or she gets 5K in donations to their campaign. Likewise with the dems that say vice versa. Relying on politics to get answers is not the best way to do things. People choose sides with politicians and that's that. Everyone makes profit based on something or a belief. That's just the way the world is. That doesn't make said choice incorrect or a hoax.

If you take politics out of it for one second and just look at the facts, it's pretty clear something is going on.

My point with the Sun expanding wasn't to say it's bigger by the naked eye. I was being sarcastic, because Cheesey pretty much implied that the sun expanding could the reason for the accelerated climate change that we've gone through in the last 50 years and even more so 20 years.

For that too happen, the Suns changes would be pretty drastic in comparison. The Sun is not the cause of this change. Now if you go back billions of years, then yes we have to factor in the Sun and other natural events like a comet hitting the planet. It's going to take along time before the Sun destroys our climate. We'll do it first. That's my point. We're not going to be around to see the Sun heat the Earth to a point of boiling. Even if we solve man made climate change.

This isn't something that has happened in a thousand years. It really just started to pickup as of late. This type of change, I believe, started around the middle of the 20th century. It picked up in the early to mid 90's. Again side by side with basically the industrial age in which we've began omitting more and more greenhouse gases. Just like scientists predicted, actually. If you think that's a coincidence, then fine, but I don't.

Trippster, I'll ask you this.
Have you ever watched a movie or TV show that believes in evolution? Do they EVER show ANYTHING that might disagree with their claims? Do you expect AL Gore to be 100% fair when his whole thing is to "prove" WE are the cause that the globe is warming?
I have read articles from scientists that say it's bunk.
Michael Moore makes movies. Do you believe everything HE says in his films?
I just saw the movie "2012". I guess I should party hard for the next 2 years. The end of the world is coming! After all, it was on film!

Oh....and check out HARA.com.
AL Gore has stock in it and will make a FORTUNE.
So, you think that might not cloud his view? And yes, he might be a nice guy, but money and power drives ALOT of people.
Trippster.......tell me that you don't think that money and power affects people? Yes, my wife is with me OBVIOUSLY not for the money. But how much would you like to bet that if something happened, that i suddenly became wealthy, that I'd suddenly have lots of new "friends" or women that would want to hop in the sack with me?
Not everyone is squeaky clean you know.
I bet BF has LOTS of "hangers on" that would leave him in an instant if he suddenly lost all his fame and fortune.
I'd say it's at LEAST a "conflict of interest" for Gore to run around saying "the sky is falling" all the while selling "The sky is falling insurance".

Ok, lets turn it around and look at the other side. Who benefits from there being NO global warming?

Oil Companies, that's who. Trillions of Dollars is at stake if we move to a oil free society.

Want motivation? threatening someone's current luxurious lifestyle will drive more sinister behavior than one who might make a million...

Yes, Porky, something IS going on. I don't doubt that there HAVE been temperature changes over the last several thousand years. We see proof that Wisconsin was once covered by ice.
But there wasn't FILM crews and the world wide web to report all these things happening. They can reach billions of people with their propaganda now, that they couldn't reach even 100 years ago. That of course also raises the profits, and the control they can have over people and companies.
If they are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, and NOT to make a bundle, why don't they give away all these great devices they have to lower pollution for no profit, only what it COSTS to make them?
I think you know why.
We're talking about what's SUPPOSEDLY supposed to "save" mankind. Not some company that builds cars or sells hamburgers.
I guess "saving" mankind only is worth it if you can put a dollar sign on it.

I'm NOT against people making money......but doing it this way? THAT I'm against. Make films and send out propaganda that ONLY shows your side, and then charge people to "save" them.
It bothers me.
Alot.
Oh well......I think i'll do as Digs did, and let it go. I have looked at both sides, came to what I think is true. If I'm wrong, so be it. It's not like I'm going to stop the "Global warming gravy train" anyway.

ON TO THE PACKERS IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
