You know, this just hit me. The Packers are doing something that seemed nearly impossible. Going into the playoffs without Brett.

You all know what I'm talking about. Everyone said "Well, once Brett is gone the Packers are going to suck again", but right now this season we have a Pro Bowl Quarterback with a 10-5 record, looking at the playoffs. Quite astonishing actually. Thoughts?

There's a thread in the NFC North discussion forum about comparing NFC North QBs. I made a statement that said Rodgers and Favre are interchangeable. I stand by it. Either of them could start for either the Packers or Vikings and you'd get similar results.

I'm 31 years old. That means that in 1992 I was 14 - just getting old enough to truly appreciate the nuances of the game and devote my mind to being a fan. I used to wonder (although I tried not to!) what it was going to be like once Favre left. I definitely was a Packers fan and not just a "Favre fan", if you know what I mean, but I still wondered if it would be as exciting to watch the team without him behind center. I have to say, we should all feel lucky as hell to have Rodgers right now. If he has anywhere near the level of success that Favre did here, I may end up being a bigger fan of his than I was of Favre. What is not to like about the guy? I've had Bears fans tell me that they HATE that Rodgers plays for Green Bay because they can't help but like him. These are the same Bears fans who never run out of reasons to despise Favre. He has the potential to be something special. To have a special QB twice in a row... yeah, we should feel damn lucky.

You know, in terms of the NFC North I think we have the most to cheer about by far. When you consider upside and the way a team has been built...it feels so good knowing we have a young stud Quarterback and many talented young/ish players (Matthews, Raji, Jones, Jennings, Collins)

During the season we sometimes yearn for big name signings but little do we realise that building through youth is the astute way in planning a dyansty.

Ted Thompson rarely lets young players go (Punter Ryan is the only person I can think of, where we have regressed a little)

The Vikings will soon face the "end of the road, after a quick fix" - fiending for a frnachise calibre quarterback.

For as bad as Cutler has been, I still believe that he is potential quality. It must be frustrating for Bears fans knowing that he can be (probably will be) much better. Their young recievers are as green as day, but still have immense raw talent.

I honestly can't see the Packers regressing in the next three-four years, only getting better as the nucleus has been set.

This is Teds 5th year, MM 4th, expectations were high going into the year as should be expected(most GM's/HC's should be able to turn around a franchise in 5 years...unless you work for The Browns).

Ted got off to a shaky start, rebounded in year 2 and 3, made probably one of the boldest moves in history, after the 2007 season, stuck to his guns in 2008, and after another shaky start in 2009, looks like expectations will be met.

Kudos to Ted....Whatever happens the rest of this year, IMHO it will be remembered as a successful season.

Let's see how Ted Thompson reacts after the season, what moves he makes, to keep this success going.
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

i follow the packs since 2003 because of paytv....i loved favre....he is the reason why i am a cheesehead and everyday i am prouder of that...he was great for us but packs existed before him and are gonna existing after him and evn they can be better with arod....brett favre made us big again but if ron wolf didn't give him another chance maybe he could be still in atlanta drinking a beer as he was used...

we are the green bay packers...we are more than a team...more than a franchise...we are a family...and that counts more than some wins...

Being constantly voted the no 1/2 fans in the NFL, no coincidence. Having one of the longest season ticket waiting lists, no coicindence. Being the only team owned by the fans? Fitting.

We have always been big, were just in a period of slumber until the 90's. The fan support never waned. Even after Retirement-Saga where a few people decided Packers were not worth supporting, 99.9% went straight ahead cheering.

It may not have a direct influence on the win/loss column, but atleast in times of hardship the fan support is so strong that there is almost no chance of the team being in dissaray.

I feel so lucky to not be suffering the fate of the Broncos and Dolphins - who years after their HOF QB retired are still struggling to find a replacement.

All the AR haters have seemed to be stunningly quiet.
Of course if we don't win the SB this year, you can bet they will be back.
We were spoiled having a great QB all those years. And the fact that we have another one must drive fans of other teams crazy.
We are in the playoffs.
A few people that were anti Rodgers have come back to say they were wrong. But very few.
I always believed to judge the players on what they do. And so far, AR has done pretty darn good in my view. Hopefully he will bring us a Lombardi trophy.

like I said at the begining of the season - I predicted if we could work our do in the top 10 we should do Very well (and keep our O the same).

Capers will be hailed a genius if we pull off a SB win. I can see us repeating also if we shore up the Oline and penalties ...

rodgers does deserve a hats off thou - So glad we got him ... guy has some nice rythem with our receivers

Mucky Tundra (18h) : Matthew Golden=DAWG (so load the wagons!!) !!!!!
dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Whoops, I thought Zero was saying it was a surprise the Brewers lost and not Lloyd being hurt
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Not a surprise; inevitable

dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Zero2Cool (12-Aug) : zero help, dominated. preseason

Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers LT Jordan Morgan did not allow a single pressure across 23 pass-blocking snaps vs. Jets last night, per PFF
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : With buckeye and the reasonable couple, we're currently sitting at 10
buckeyepackfan (10-Aug) : Just posted to re-up on our FFL.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice
wpr (10-Aug) : I made it through the 1st Q.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Could have been a worse start, so there is that.

Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : Sooooooo many penalties
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : It may only be preseason, but this game is a trip to the dentist

Mucky Tundra (9-Aug) : THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL TONIGHT!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
