No thanks, Zero. I like my Freedoms and my money. Obama is lousy at both.

"Rockmolder" wrote:

I can imagine that you're talking about your freedom being taken away. Many people seem to link taxes to freedom. If you ask me, progressive taxing is the way to go.

Anyway, why is he lousy at managing your money? You obviously had to pump some money in failing companies to not screw yourself over, totally.

We had to, as well.

Or because he's putting some money towards his healthcare plans? I think that you're always trying to find a balance between giving good health care to all and not paying too much as a government.

If you ask me, yours was way too skewed towards not paying too much as a government.

He's making some positive changes.

Many of these comments exemplify the great dishonesty of Obama. I never considered any business to big to fail. I was against the stimulus passed in 08 and I was adamantly against the stimulus passed in 09. Our dear leader talked about how urgent the 09 stimulus was for our economy but it ended up just being payback to all his special interests. Last week they just passed ANOTHER stimulus to help create jobs and no one in the government is being held accountable for the biggest scam of the decade for the 700 billion that we pissed away early this year.

Health care is obviously a joke. What urgent program do you pay for right away and do not receive any of the benefits until 2013?

Obama and the Dems have made China look like the pinnacle of capitalism. He can only be considered to have made a positive contribution if you believe in the downfall of American exceptionalism and despise the principles of the Declaration of Independence.

I might not believe that this bill is the correct way to attack the health care issue in this country.. but from personal experience over that past two years see my premium grow, but deductible explode to 6k and my coverage becoming less and less.. they cover nothing for the prosthetic anymore..

This past year I have personally spent just about 9k out of my pocket for health care and over 15k the past two.... bleeding me dry to a point.

So, IMO, something has to change with the way handle health care.. but not sure I agree with this avenue.

Did you know they count anyone that got a RAISE as a "new job" created? Yup.....if they got ONE CENT an hour more, it's.....(drum roll please) a NEW JOB CREATED!!!

I'm not making this up. They count it that way. Talk about dishonest.

I think most Americans believe in your comments Pack93z. The problem is the Dems have used your situation as a means to pass something that in no way is to help out your situation. The only thing you will see for the next two years is your taxes raised. If the government was serious about health care reform they would have passed tort reform regulation, given citizens more rights in terms of pre-existing conditions, relaxing of employment requirements for insurance, stricter oversight on insurance claims and allowed the freedom to choose from a broader base of insurance companies.

I predict the working middle class will see very little of any of these results. I don't know for sure though because no one really KNOWS the complete details of this bill except for a chosen few.

The reason why healthcare is so expensive these days is the same reason why house prices far outstripped inflation over the past 30 years.

OPM.

Other people's money.

No one pays for healthcare with cash anymore. They use their insurance companies for everything, even routine checkups and minor complaints. Increased demand with a corresponding increase in supply results in higher prices. It's simple economics. If people had to pay for more of their healthcare needs out of pocket, you can be sure they'd be more prudent in their use of healthcare resources. They wouldn't be fleeing to the doctor for every sneeze, sniffle, ache, and pain.

I remember on my first deployment, a lieutenant colonel came to me asking for some free Claritin. If I remember correctly, we were out at the time. Anyway, I suggested he go to the PX and buy some there. "Buy Claritin? I can't afford to buy Claritin," he responded contemptuously. Now bear in mind, as a LTC, he made over $72,000 in base salary alone -- not including housing allowance, combat pay, and various other pays. I stared back with him with equal contempt. "Sir," I said, "I'm a PFC and I can afford to buy Claritin."

And I kicked him out of my clinic.

THIS.

Insurance companies 'rob' people because the people have been taking advantage of the insurance for YEARS!

I got into an argument somewhere about how insurance companies aren't the ONLY 'bad' guys.. The price gouging starts at us, the 'innocents'. We abuse the insurance we have. Then, the health care industry wants some of the greenbacks the insurance companies have, so they gouge the shit out of them (i.e. raises the prices on healthcare, etc). In return, because the bottom line cannot get into the red, our premiums and fees go up for our insurance.

I went to the ER in a ambulance when I got my stiches this past summer/fall with ZERO coverage. I got the bills in the mail, and saw how much they would have charged the insurance companies, and saw that they gave me the 'uninsured' benefit, which was FRACTIONS of that 'cost'. Hmm.. I wonder why?

I've always said the answer to our healthcare problems is for everyone to get an HSA coverage. But, the problem with that is it forces consumers/'innocents' to think for themselves (i.e. 'do I go to the doc. for this cold/sniffles, or do I deal?').

While I admire your toughness, I don't necessarily think your course of action was all that laudable, ma'am. It's certainly possible to hemorrhage or experience other damage from a kidney stone. I'd far rather see someone pop into the doctor's office, get a quick shot of morphine to relax the ureters, and pass the stone safely and quickly, than endure the agony of having that thing scrape slowly down a spasming ureter, into the bladder, and then into the urethra . . . Not pretty.

but back to the subject at hand...

To follow up on Cheesey's point...

A bit of math:
A. Stimulus package: estimated at $1 trillion cost. (actual number - bigger)
B. Cost of pretty nice job (total cost, not just the wage bill): 200,000/yr. (actual number smaller)
A divided by B. Jobs created by 1 trillion of effective spending in economy: 5 million. (actual number bigger)
C. Most optimistic claim of "new jobs created by stimulus" (i.e. from Administration, since backed off on): 650,000.

Using resources that should create 5 million jobs and creating less than 13 percent of them?

Call it fraud. Call it pride. Call it wishful thinking. I call it utterly stupid.

Well said.

And that's why Obamacare or whatever the Washington morons come up with is doomed to fail.

Because its built, as too much of our "social infrastructure," on a foundation of OPM. We'll be lucky if the "cost estimates" turn to be off by only a factor of two.

The irony, of course, is that the whole health care "reform" is coming about because of the need for "affordable" health care. But you don't make something affordable by making a transfer payment. That just shifts the cost to someone else.

If you want to make health care more affordable, what you do is change the ability to pay. You don't figure out how to use current wealth more wisely, you figure out how to increase wealth. If we want "cheaper" health care, we need higher incomes; and if we want higher incomes, we need to figure out new ways to ensure our economy grows.

Not figure out way after way to make that growth harder.

Frankly, if I were under 40, I'd be contemplating moving not only my financial wealth offshore, but my human capital. I'd be thinking of going expat in a big way. Because when we baby boomer leeches hit our seventies and eighties, there's going to be hell to pay.

One of the great sources of this country's economic strength is its attraction for the hardworking and the bright and the creative. We've never had to worry about a "brain drain," because they all drained into us.

But whether it's health care idiocies, or climate idiocies, or education idiocies, or intellectual property idiocies, or consumer borrowing idiocies, or just our general desire to ensure that someone else pays for whatever we want, we seem to be doing everything we can to push the hardworking and the bright and the creative away.

There may not be a stopper big enough for the holes we're hammering out of the bathtub.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
