WHY the hell should the upperclass be taxed higher? i'll never understand that. those people worked hard to get where they are so why should they have to 'bail out' the lower class people?

oh & as far as wanting obama out asap - yeah, great plan - can't wait for the next dude to get in & continue the f ups.

i'll say it now - until we are able to get an independent with some freakin balls in the presidency - nothing & i mean NOTHING will ever change!!!

I agree with 4packgirl that the rich are already getting nailed with some high taxes. Isn't it the case that New York residents are getting taxed >50% right now?

I always like to think of my taxes in terms of my work time. I f I get taxed 20%, that means I have decided to work for free one day a week for the government. I think to be asked to devote 2.5 days/ week of my work for free is robbery. I would like to be "rich" as I get closer to retirement and do not need to feel like I should be punished for working hard and saving towards this goal.

As for the cynical idea that Obama will be replaced with another bad president, I have to disagree. You really cannot do much worse than a socialist that I personally believe, wants to destroy the fundamentals of the country. In one year, this president has done more damage to this country than any foreign opponent could image.

See this is BS. Most upperclass were born into their wealth, not "worked hard" for it. If they want to tax the rich, than go after the trust funds and envoke laws to against the free passage of wealth within a family.

I really dislike people that have been handed their whole lives on a silver platter.

Now, the people I do respect are those which have built their lives from ground up and "worked hard" to have earned everything they own. Unfortunatly, this is 90 percent of your tax base.

You are so far off base here, I don't know where to start.

George W. Bush ignored the "fundamentals of the country," as you put it, far more than Obama ever could dream of doing. He openly derided the constitutional limitations of power placed upon him, he did everything in his power to flout Congress, he operated unilaterally whenever possible. He acted more like a petulant monarch than any president except Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Though I do not agree with his policies, President Obama has been by comparison the consummate gentleman. He has shown proper deference to Congress -- he has agreed to abide by their decisions. Little of his original healthcare bill remains. Like a crafty cardplayer, he has let Congress muddle its way through the bill, knowing that Congress will have to take ultimate blame for its deficiencies. But that's what the president is supposed to do.

For you to label Obama a socialist and let Bush off the hook is laughable. All Obama has done is cut a few pages out of Bush's playbook and blow them up a bit. He hasn't done anything that Bush hadn't already initiated in his own administration.

Bailouts to big business? Check.

Escalation of war? Check.

Intrusion into privacy? Check.

Need I go on?

At least Obama is an admitted liberal, so people won't fall asleep in his administration and, like Clinton, history will show him to have been a less-than-effective president. I'd rather have a hamstrung liberal than a conservative run amok.

Ever wonder why Republicans are so adamantly against health care reform?
I certainly do!
I wonder why they don't even propose any meaningful alternatives.
Hmmm, something to think about!

I always wonder what exactly you want in your president.

I'm all for socialistic reforms. No, not communism, but just getting away from this ultra capitalistic plan where only the rich can afford good health care and single moms/dads instantly fall bellow the poverty line if they want to raise their kids a bit, as well.

So what is it? Economy? Clinton peaked your economy, but I see him being scolded often enough. FDR wanted too much power. Truman didn't handle the war against Korea correctly. Hoover kept his hands off of the economy too much during the great depression according to some, but was too hands on according to others. Bush, well, he dodged that shoe in a pretty nifty manner.

Point is, have you ever had a good president?

Of course, you critize your president on some points, but has there ever been a good one? Or is Washington the only one? And does he only get a free pass because he kind off 'made' America?

You forgot to mention that Lincoln presided over the bloodiest war in American history, one that completed the destruction of state sovereignty, and suspended habeas corpus. ;)

No, I don't think Abraham Lincoln was a good president, any more than I think Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights hero. But I do think we've had good presidents. Just none recently. But then, we haven't been a good nation recently, so we haven't deserved good presidents.

Wait, what? Only the rich can afford good healthcare? I make less than 20 grand and can afford good healthcare. When my parents had 3 kids and were making 80 grand between the two of them they could afford health insurance for themselves and us kids fine with my mother going for her masters.

Single moms/dads are very often covered by Medicaid or state programs for low income families. The senate version of the healthcare bill is going to leave 20 million uninsured. I hate to inform you of this, but we're not ultra-capitalist right now. Our tax system is very progressive, regulations up the ying in nearly every industry... We're about halfway between capitalist and socialist in nature, a little bit on the capitalist end.

Nobody's perfect and none of our presidents have or will be. I think the reason why people are bitching so much about Obama is that he's managed to extend the federal government's reach significantly in the following industries:

1. Healthcare
2. Banking
3. Auto industry

And now we hear about further regulations on credit card companies being unable to charge more than 20% on people with the lowest credit scores. We hear about the EPA wanting to be able to regulate land where there's temporary standing water. Where does federal regulation of the private sector and private property end?

Reagan was the best we had recently. But he was way too conservative for liberals.
And Yoop, the reason Republicans are so against health reform is that the "reform" the Democrats set forth are for the government to control everything. And they KNOW that will kill our healthcare system.
If doctors know they won't get paid decently and will be spending most of their time seeing people with common colds and "boo boos", why go through all the work it takes to become a doctor?
People will stop going to school to be docs if there's no payoff in the end.
And just look around......our government is like "King Midus"..........except everything they touch doesn't turn to gold, it turns to shit.
There is already free healthcare out there for anyone that needs it. For SERIOUS conditions. If you have no coverage, and have a serious thing happen, a hospital can't turn you away.
The government will end up destroying any good healthcare we now have. Think it takes long to get in to see a doctor now? Wait until it's "free!" Anyone with the sniffles will be in to see a doctor. Thus, making REAL medical conditions wait.
