including me.

we're all pinheads.

hoping the right combination of other teams will implode so we're assured a wild card.

setting ourselves up for "why one-and-done is still a good year" and "wait til next year" and "goddarn it Ted will you do more in FA" and "drafting at spot 15-20."

sigh.

pinheads.

all of us.

It's fun though, isn't it?? I'm having a hell of a time watching this young team develop into contenders.

I keep thinking about to 07'.. watching the Giants have their fair share of troubles all season long.. only to have it come together at the right time and make a run.. including beating a team thought unbeatable.

Don't sell the Giants short. They don't have a lot of star talent (and their IQ went up when they parted with Shockey and Burress), but they have solid players up and down the roster. When they're clicking, they can beat anyone, and Eli Manning has shown he can win big games when trailing late. It seems like every year around this time, they get it together and make a run. They scare me more than the Cowboys or Eagles at this point if they can get in the playoffs.

Whoa there. A wildcard berth is a little more than second fiddle -- especially when you consider the success that wildcard teams have had as of late. Need you be reminded that Arizona nearly won the Super Bowl? Or when Pittsburgh did they too were a wild card team?

Who says we'll be one and done? I think we'd all prefer the Packers won the division but seeing how that hasn't been much of a possibility since we were swept by the Vikings naturally we'll put our eggs in the Wild Card basket.

There's a lot more to it than hoping other teams fail. Let's take care of business, keep on winning, land a spot in the playoffs, and get some damn momentum.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

I grew up with European soccer where the regular season is all you get (i.e. the team with the most points wins it all, no knock out competition, no playoffs).

This rewards the best team every year but means the end of the season can be tedious and dead for the vast majority of teams (at least those not involved in relegation - that's something else).

I love the playoffs, it gives hope to half the league and when you throw in the salary cap and draft it really does become a lottery.

Any Given Sunday means if you can sneak into the playoffs then 3 hot/lucky games and your in the superbowl. Amazing.

So as a fan every season my expectations for the Pack are to reach the playoffs. Do that and you've bought a lottery ticket and from then who knows what can happen.

This season shows what can happen in the space of one game - The winless Bucs beat the Pack who then beat the NFC East leading Cowboys.

The perfect Saints are within a chip shot field goal defeat to the hapless Redkins and the Oakland Raiders defeat the world champion Steelers.

Who said parity was dead in the NFL?

It's like Matt Millen said last night...it's not who you play, it's when you play them, and sans Saints, I don't think many want to play us right now.

If we were 6-6 and just trying to hang on, i'd agree. But we are 8-4, which at this point NORMALLY would be good enough to lead the division. It's a weird year, and we are in a place where we could control our own destiny.
Would i rather win the division? Yes. But in oreder to have a CHANCE to win the Super Bowl, we have to get into the playoffs. ANY way possible.
As a wild card, we have to win 4 games instead of 3 to be world champions. We are coming together at the right time of the year.
I'm quite excited about the possibilities. Heck, last year we would be THRILLED if we knew that after 12 games this year we'd be in the playoff hunt.
Call me a pinhead......i don't mind!!!!

(You mentioned seeing the replay on the scoreboard. Do you have any communication during the week with the guys in charge of that, to talk about when you want to might want to challenge something? It seemed when you wanted to challenge the TD you had to wait a while. Isn't that part of the home-field advantage to get that quicker?)
I didn't think it was as late as you're stating. Maybe it was. First of all, it was a bad challenge. That was an emotional challenge. I should not have challenged that. I wish I had that one back. But I think the scoreboard people do a good job, and I thought they actually did a very good job last night with the number of replays. I had plenty of information. There was an angle I thought the ball moved, and I reacted to it, and I should not have did that. That was not a very good challenge, obviously.
