Is it because the offense can't stay on the field or is the defense just playing bad?

Any comments?

I said it last week and I will say it again this week.. you can look at the Oline and all tangents are drawn from their..

It trickles down in all aspects of our offense.. MM lack of confidence (which is warranted) in the ability of the offensive line.

Campen better gets these boys playing better and soon.

The D is giving up yardage but continue to MAKE THE BIG PLAYS at crucial times.
The problem being a defense can only be on the field so long before something bad happens.

Both. The D is making the big plays, but we're lacking in fundamentals like taking good angles and tackling.

The defense is in a serious injury crisis. Nick Collins seems to constantly be hurting himself, Bigby, Rouse, Hawk, are all nagged by injury, Woodson has been a stud(I wouldn't believe you if you hadn't told me he had a broken toe) Harris is out for awhile( and I really miss him, he has a fight that this defense could have used yesterday)

The d-line is tired, Keeping those guys fresh is a must, and right now we are a little thin on the line. Corey Williams trade now seems like a bad move.

Another area of emphasis needs to be Wrap up tacking. Not this hit em high and hope that you land a knock out punch.

I think Campen needs to go. Bring in someone who can run the ZBS or scrap it altogether. Demote Philbin and put him back in charge of the line. Then bring in someone who knows how to run an offense because McCarthy's "prevent offense" playcalling sucks. Lane Kiffin is looking for a job... he'd do nicely, IMO.

Keep the D fresh and they will be okay...even with the injury issues. The answer is running the friggen football and sustaining drives. The OL needs to pull their heads out now or we are screwed.

They need to either pass protect weel or run well. Right now we can't do either. We have no identity on offense because our OL isn't performing.

Can we please get off the ZBS...it's not the problem. The problem is teh cut block portion of teh ZBS. More than 50-% of all NCAA teams and many NFL teams run the ZBS just not the cut block part. Big fat OL can run teh ZBS, it's the Cutblocking that is an issue.

Cut blocking is the part of the ZBS that I have the biggest issue with. It's dirty, and unnecessary. But moral qualms aside, whatever they're doing - whatever you want to call it - clearly isn't working.

(My apologies to the original poster who wanted this thread to be about the defense... but think the o-line is the root of all our problems. Hell, if our line wasn't so crappy, even that stiff of a punter wouldn't be such an issue.)

I would be cautious about this, I think the other teams have made stupid mistakes instead.
If you take away some really silly throws by Kitna and Griese how does our defense look? They are taking what is given but they are not producing anyting special on its own. No forced fumbles, no tackles behind the line.

We are playing vanilla defense, we rush 4, cover man to man and the LBs are just there. I hate the scheme.
We have no depth in the DL Jolly and Picket are good but get tired soon, Cole is not very good and that is that. We really really miss Corey Williams.
