Woodson damn near deserves a league MVP, but I'm afraid that that is only reserved for RBs and QBs.

Still can't believe that Ray Lewis didn't get it over Marshall Faulk in 2000.

I'm pretty sure they still hand out a defensive player of the year award as well, which is basically equivalent to a defensive MVP because they rarely (if ever) award the MVP to defensive players.

Dumervil really raised his stock last night with 2 sacks giving him 14 on the season. If he gets anywhere close to Strahan's record (22 I believe) he's a given to win it, at least in the critics eyes. If Woodson keeps up his pace though it's a hard argument.

Of course, but they also give out an offensive player of the year. It just doesn't make sense to me that defensive players are so underrated in this game.

I mean, realistically, who made more impact that year? Marshall Faulk on a star-studded offense? Or Ray Lewis, the defensive leader of a defense that came close to setting all kinds of records?

I know my pick there.

And I agree with you on Dumervil. You really have to be a big name if you want to get this one as a corner. The last two where Rod Woodson in '93 and Deion Sanders in '94. It's mostly LBs, DEs or DTs from there on out, with 2 safeties being picked somewhere in there.

Thats what he needs. One DPOY, a superbowl ring and a few more good seasons and I think he gets in.

I do like his stats so far but I do think he needs a few more good seasons because where he's at right now, I think he'd be nominated but won't make it.

5 Pro Bowls, 1 All Pro, 43 INTs, 8 TDs, 11.5 sacks, 22 Forced Fumbles, 10 Fumbles Recovered, 1 TD on Fumble Recovery, 599 tackles.

Compare that to Darren Sharper:
4 Pro Bowls, 1 All Pro, 61 INTs, 11 TDs including a 99-yarder, 7.5 sacks, 8 Forced Fumbles, 7 Fumbles Recovered, 2 TDs on Fumble recoveries, 701 tackles.

Honestly, I hope they both make it as I enjoyed watching Sharper as a Packer. I do think there's a shot that both make it. One criticism of the Hall of Fame is that defensive players don't get the credit they deserve so we might be seeing closer to 50/50 O/D in the future. Or at least I hope.

I see Sharper in the hall because he's on the top-10 least of picks in a career (and he's all time in pick sixes). I don't think you can really hold Woodson's amount of picks against him though because it's easier for a FS to ball hawk than a CB.

Well, this is the thing...

Woody has become a ball hawk as well. His timing is pretty much perfect. To get INTs as a Safety, you have to ball hawk. To get INTs as a CB, you have to have perfect timing. Or you can hawk if your DC allows you to which Capers does with Woody.

Woody is #60 but that's meaningless. Let's say he plays two more seasons and has 5 INTs each season, which is pretty realistic. That puts him at #22 tied with Deion Sanders. Woody's already #6 in INTs returned for TDs and with one more jumps to tied for #3. I can't find the stats for Forced Fumbles in a career, but I'm sure Woody is up there.

Defensive MVP IMO:

1. Charles Woodson
2. Elvis Dumervil
3. Dwight Freeney
4. Jared Allen
5. Patrick Willis

DROTY

1. Jarius Byrd
2. Brian Cushing
3. Brian Orakpo
4. Clay Matthews
5. James Laurinaitis

To believe Matthews would have any chance over Byrd or Cushing is just silly.

"Packers_Finland" wrote:

I think you got to put James Harrison ahead of Allen... Allen has .5 sacks more and one TD where as Harrison has 19 more tackles and another forced fumble.

And Freeney should be behind both Harrison and Allen.

Also I would think Matthews ahead of Orakpo because of hype... Matthews has won the rookie of the week twice while no other defensive guy has won once...

Byrd/Cushing is really a toss up depends how much value you put on INT and tackles and I'd give it to Cushing because he's been good around and not just in once area...

Tackles is only a secondary stat, turnovers and sacks come first. And one thing that has to do with DMVP awards is wins. The order is Freeney > Allen > Harrison.

So the one loss the Vikings have is enough to Freeney to pass Allen even though Allen has more sacks and turnovers? ...

If wins are so important how are Woodson and Dumervil #1 and #2 they have a lot more losses...

Sorry but your logic of Freeney over Allen doesn't hold...

and other than the wins there is no reason ether over them should be over Harrison.....

and if wins are that important why are nether of the top 2 guy from teams that are currently winning their division? .....

so again your logic isn't spread evenly on all of them....
