Maybe Driver's exceptional play this year has made him an attractive trade target and we cash in on an old player and promote the young guys. (I'm not saying I want it to happen, but I could see Ted pulling the trigger if he got an offer he couldnt refuse).

There is no chance you get anything like a 1st or 2nd round pick for a WR as old as Driver. That is the level of production we get out of him though. I don't see Ted trading his most productive WR. That is unless he starts retiring every year and acting like an all around douche.

Of course Jordy and James aren't getting the production, but there's more to it than production. Nelson has been playing decently, but he's not looking that fast out there, not being targeted that often, not able to get the 3rd receiver spot over Jones, he's a decent, but not great, route runner, he has ok hands, but doesn't make great catches in traffic....

Point is, maybe he could start, but he's no progressing the way I'd like from the 36th pick in the draft. Of course he was injured this year and it's only his second year, but I just don't see him taking over from Driver. I'm not liking what I'm seeing from him so far.

I see James Jones as a better receiver at this point than Nelson. I don't think he'll be Driver-like good, but he'll be a solid receiver opposite of Jennings.

I just think that people shouldn't get their hopes up that high, because you can't actually replace Driver. There are just two guys in the league who play the way he's playing at the WT position. Hines Ward being the other one. And Ward isn't as all-around as Driver, this is just in terms of toughness.

That's just something I don't like to think about. It's kind of like thinking about the day when you're going to have to put your dog to sleep. I'd rather not think about it.

I agree with you that we can't replace Driver because no one can match his production or style. However, guys like Nelson and Jones bring different skill sets to the table than Driver and if they're utilized correctly we would still have a great 1-2-3 tandem at the WR position. We also need to give our young guys time to mature. Nelson and Jones both have had injuries hamper their progress but there's a lot of hope for the future if their developed correctly. You also have to consider the threat of Jermichael Finley at TE, the guy's a beast that can line up as a WR.

The reason I'm not disappointed with Jones and Jordy is that I'm not expecting either to be better than Driver or Jennings yet. Jennings is borderline elite and a second round pick. Driver is extremely experienced and having almost a career season.

Since when does a second round player 11 games into his second season expect to beat out either of those?

WRs often take a couple of years to really click, Jennings did and he didn't have 2 stud guys ahead of him taking all his reps.

A glipse of what Jordy can do was shown in the 49ers game where he beat 2 guys for a TD from a standing start. For a big, physical receiver that was a nice move.

Driver has top skills, yes. But what makes him special is his heart.

If all Driver had was skills, he would never have made the team his rookie year. But he had something else.

I wouldn't be worried about replacing his skills. But finding another WR with that kind of heart -- that's what's going to be really, really hard.

I'm not saying that he has to beat out Jennings or Driver. That's extremely unrealistic.

It's just these problems I have with him that I mentioned earlier. You undoubtedly read them. I don't like to see those things from any receiver, let alone such a high draft pick.

Add to that that he's really struggling to get open against 3rd string CBs.

Just take a look at his catches from this year. From the 15 or something he has made, I think that 10 are after a play has broken down completely and he comes back to the QB (Good instinct, there) or from WR screens/quick hits in the backfield. He's just not getting seperation on most plays. And that brings me back to the points I made earlier...

I hope that it's injury related or something, because I saw a kid with tons of potential a year ago who has kind of flatlined this year.

I believe all our WR and TE has good moves in the open field. Donald probably has the best moves but I think they all got it. I heard we were at least top 10 in YAC. I mean look at J Fin, D Lee and Jones yesterday making moves to get YAC and working to get the touch down. Jordy and Jennings last sunday had good moves too. They all got it and with more snaps James and Jordy will get up there too.
