Man, it's going to suck when Driver retires. He just simply doesn't drop the ball, and he's not afraid to go over the middle.

Driver and Jennings complement each other VERY well. Driver is the bruising WR with great moves in open field, while Jennings is a little bit of everything.

Boy, I really hope that Driver can teach Jennings some of his moves. It's just amazing how he gets around some of those defenders in the open field. I like how when we throw the screen to him, we are almost always guaranteed 5 yards.

Although, Nelson is good at that too, so Jennings really wouldn't need to be.

I don't know, I just had a few thoughts about it.

I think that Driver is learning his stuff to the young guys, already. Don't just go down and do a little 'bugaloo', or however he called it, to fake out the defender.

Just look at what Jennings did in the Dallas game (by accident, maybe, but still). He collided with a LB and the LB got out of the game with an injured shoulder.

The only thing that I'm beginning to doubt more and more is whether we have a capable replacement. James Jones is looking alright, and so is Jordy, but neither are progressing like they should. At least, Jordy isn't, if you ask me. He's a high 2nd rounder and he's still nothing more than a 4th WR if you ask me.

Donald Drivers don't just grow on trees. Guys with his ability after the catch are hard to come by. His style is kind of unique and can't really be taught. Either you have or develop those instincts or you don't. It's called being fearless and giving everything you have all the time.

Rockmolder, I don't see anything wrong with Jordy.....he has some of the best hands on this team. Very rarely will you see him drop a pass. Also a decent route runner too.

He didn't have his best game ever this past week, but he's not a push over. Remember, Josh Bell said that he was the best receiver in college that he had ever tried to cover.

Luckily we won't have to face this issue in at least ten years, or that's the impression I get when I see him play.

Driver is the man. He has got to be one of the best wide receivers of this past decade. He makes the craziest catches (even if he drops some of the easy ones).

That one he picked up off the ground yesterday was even awesome. You get it anywhere near this guy and he'll get his hands on it.

I like the one posters analogy of how there is no way to teach another player the skills DD has. It is true, these skills can not be taught.

The player I see the closest to replacing DD's role in the offense on the current roster is J-Finn. DD in effect, has been the Packers "ONLY" threat to run over the middle of the field for the last eight seasons. Finnley has the speed and skills to make plays over the middle of the field and stretch the field as well.

Good point about Finley being our next slot man.

I think Jones and Jordy appear to not be coming along because they are 3rd and 4th in the pecking order. They simply dont get the same number of snaps as the big two and when you add in the number of screens and passes to TEs and FBs we make there just isn't enough ball to get around everyone.

If they were both starters, say on the Browns or Raiders then I suspect their production would be much higher. How many teams really get massive production from their 3rd and 4th choice wide receivers?

When Driver does go they will have an opportunity to show what they can do. Until then they'll have to chip away and try and compete.

Maybe Driver's exceptional play this year has made him an attractive trade target and we cash in on an old player and promote the young guys. (I'm not saying I want it to happen, but I could see Ted pulling the trigger if he got an offer he couldnt refuse).

If that happens it would be total suicide for TT. Alot of fans haven't gotten past his last move of dumping and old guy this would finish it off.

Good point about them being 3rd and 4th receivers, that's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe if Jordy was getting reps as the number 2 guy we'd see more out of him, same goes for James Jones. I'm glad we have two good replacements for Driver when he retires but the guy simply does not age like a regular human being, I could see him playing another 2-3 years if not longer. And I sincerely doubt that we'll ever see Driver on a team besides the Packers, he epitomizes what this team is all about. Even if his production drops off we would still retain him as a third receiver on the team. After the Favre Fiasco this management doesn't need another reason to alienate half the fanbase.

Donald Driver for Packers receiver coach? In the future it could be a possibility ๐Ÿ™‚

There is no chance you get anything like a 1st or 2nd round pick for a WR as old as Driver. That is the level of production we get out of him though. I don't see Ted trading his most productive WR. That is unless he starts retiring every year and acting like an all around douche.

Of course Jordy and James aren't getting the production, but there's more to it than production. Nelson has been playing decently, but he's not looking that fast out there, not being targeted that often, not able to get the 3rd receiver spot over Jones, he's a decent, but not great, route runner, he has ok hands, but doesn't make great catches in traffic....

Point is, maybe he could start, but he's no progressing the way I'd like from the 36th pick in the draft. Of course he was injured this year and it's only his second year, but I just don't see him taking over from Driver. I'm not liking what I'm seeing from him so far.

I see James Jones as a better receiver at this point than Nelson. I don't think he'll be Driver-like good, but he'll be a solid receiver opposite of Jennings.

I just think that people shouldn't get their hopes up that high, because you can't actually replace Driver. There are just two guys in the league who play the way he's playing at the WT position. Hines Ward being the other one. And Ward isn't as all-around as Driver, this is just in terms of toughness.

I agree with you that we can't replace Driver because no one can match his production or style. However, guys like Nelson and Jones bring different skill sets to the table than Driver and if they're utilized correctly we would still have a great 1-2-3 tandem at the WR position. We also need to give our young guys time to mature. Nelson and Jones both have had injuries hamper their progress but there's a lot of hope for the future if their developed correctly. You also have to consider the threat of Jermichael Finley at TE, the guy's a beast that can line up as a WR.

Since when does a second round player 11 games into his second season expect to beat out either of those?

WRs often take a couple of years to really click, Jennings did and he didn't have 2 stud guys ahead of him taking all his reps.

A glipse of what Jordy can do was shown in the 49ers game where he beat 2 guys for a TD from a standing start. For a big, physical receiver that was a nice move.

Driver has top skills, yes. But what makes him special is his heart.

If all Driver had was skills, he would never have made the team his rookie year. But he had something else.

I wouldn't be worried about replacing his skills. But finding another WR with that kind of heart -- that's what's going to be really, really hard.

I'm not saying that he has to beat out Jennings or Driver. That's extremely unrealistic.

It's just these problems I have with him that I mentioned earlier. You undoubtedly read them. I don't like to see those things from any receiver, let alone such a high draft pick.

Add to that that he's really struggling to get open against 3rd string CBs.

Just take a look at his catches from this year. From the 15 or something he has made, I think that 10 are after a play has broken down completely and he comes back to the QB (Good instinct, there) or from WR screens/quick hits in the backfield. He's just not getting seperation on most plays. And that brings me back to the points I made earlier...

I hope that it's injury related or something, because I saw a kid with tons of potential a year ago who has kind of flatlined this year.

I believe all our WR and TE has good moves in the open field. Donald probably has the best moves but I think they all got it. I heard we were at least top 10 in YAC. I mean look at J Fin, D Lee and Jones yesterday making moves to get YAC and working to get the touch down. Jordy and Jennings last sunday had good moves too. They all got it and with more snaps James and Jordy will get up there too.
