We are a good team right now. We have a great offense, a good defense, and a great blend of old vets and young guys. We have no major locker room problems. Even the o-line is starting to gel. We are currently in great position to make a playoff push.

Overall, it is a good time to be a Packer fan.

But after watching the return our team gave up after the safety today, I am fed up.

Our special teams is horrendous. They are absolutely atrocious.

The coverage units are a joke. I think Crosby has got to be one of our leading tacklers (where did his leg strength go by the way). We had, what three or four penalties on special teams today.

We rank 22nd on kick returns. We're 23 on punt returns. Our longest return (46 yards) is tied for 25 and is the only return we have had over 40 yards. No TDs on returns. Kapinos is dead last in net punting.

I love the kid, but Nelson doesn't know what he's doing on punt returns. I've seen him muff, fumble, and make ill-advised fair catches all year. there got to be someone our their we can trust as punt returner besides Woodson.

The absolutely worst aspect is our coverage. Quinn Johnson has no idea what going on. How many more missed blocks and coverage penalties will it take before McCarthy realizes he needs to be on the practice squad for a year. No one is going to pick him up right now. I swear that Underwood and Bush lead the league in penalties/minute played. We got burned by the Bucs, Vikes, Lions, 49ers... hell everyone! After every touchdown we score, we give up huge returns put our defense in a horrible position. I can't find the stats so feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I have to assume that we are the worst coverage team in the league.

In order for good teams like GB to beat great teams like New Orleans and Minnesota we have play stellar special teams. I have no idea how to turn this thing around...

What do you guys think?

I am NOT going to let any thing negative creep into my mind for the next 144 hours.

To be honest, the STs performance this year is bad enough to warrant Coach Slocum getting fired.

Forget the big plays at seemingly the worst possible time, the penalties are absolutely ridiculous now. They needed to stop 10 games ago.

I really doubt Mike McCarthy would fire someone like Slocum after the year seeing as he is just a first year coach, but I hope Mike McCarthy gets him some veteran help there, maybe in the form of an adviser like Mike Westoff...

I'm hoping we can limit the big returns - I've pretty much given up on improving the penalties. On the bright side, Kapinos was a positive today, IMO.

I agree with most of what you say but Quinn Johnson on the practice squad? He would get picked up in a heartbeat. The guy is an absolute mammoth of a lead blocker in the run game.

I agree he would get picked up instantly; someone would definitely cut a bottom of the roster play and easily pick up Quinn in a heartbeat.

That said, my goodness is he slow. If I'm not mistaken, he was the one responsible on Grant giving up a safety because he didn't get out to block a player fast enough.

Quinn is a power guy... not a speed guy. And I agree keep him on the 53 man roster....

Also as far as Underwood I swear he got called penalty today where it was clearly was him... like his number got called but it wasn't him... Ref got the wrong number... right call though just wrong number...

Not to derail this thread but I think the safety was more on the call. Grant has a history of losing yards on outside runs. Couple that call with the fact that we were on the 1 yard line and I see a 50-50 chance of a safety. I would've much rather seen an FB dive or even a QB sneak to at least get us a few more yards out of the end zone.

Yea Bigby had a blatant block in the back on a punt return but they called it on Underwood.

I wonder if the special teams scheme/plan is a factor into the flags being called? Maybe the scheme isn't putting players in a advantageous position and they end up reacting out of position foolishly which causes flags?

Mucky Tundra (2h) : Rude!
beast (3h) : Martha? 😋
Zero2Cool (7h) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (9h) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (11h) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
