It is time to trade some players... a lot of them.

And exactly what will we do with 25 7th round draft choices?

I don't know, but for a myriad of reasons the word displacement keeps coming to mind regarding the current roster. I'll take my chances on some new blood in that linebacking corps, for example. Lord knows these guys love to wheel and deal in those.

I also think Al Harris and every one of our safeties, including Nick Collins (especially--athleticism aside) are absolutely dumber than dirt. I think they are too friggin' stupid to play anything resembling a sophisticated defense.

As soon as there is a requirement to "pick up" for a fellow defender, watch for the big play...a missed assignment is almost a virtual certainty.

Then I get to hear how Fred Flintstone has to see the film.

I guess so much for changing over to the 3-4 being somewhat of a work in progress where we could expect them to get better as the season goes along.
Now all of a sudden they should be balls to the wall from the first snap of the season. I've asked this question before but were teams like the Steelers and Ravens kicking everybody's ass in the first half of the first season they installed this system?.

My friend, this is professional football. Yes, they need to go balls out from day 1. If not, then when? Game 9, game 12? When? OTAs, mini-camps & the preseason is for getting better. You don't have the amount of practice time during the season and you focus more on game planning. That's a myth about football, a team doesn't get better during the year. It is what it is and they have to figure out a way to wins.

Aaron Rodgers wasn't given a pass for taking over a team that was in the Championship Game the prior year when he went 6-10. Ray Rhodes 8-8. This team is 4-4 and I started by discussing the 3-4 defense, not special teams or the offensive line. I didn't say the defense is THE REASON for such a poor season.

My question and opinions were only directed at the 3-4... please stop making excuses for field position/special teams. What Championship level franchise complains that their highest paid unit cannot stop offenses because of field position? They probably would have won 2 more games if they did hold teams to FGs. And please explain the Tampa Bay loss? That was special teams? A Rookie QB with 3 TDs vs. 1 interception for a previously winless Bucs team?

Damn, I have to stop taking months off before posting because I feel like I have to respond to everything... this ish is addictive.

"warhawk" wrote:

I will explain the Tampa loss. It's pretty easy. Yes, Freeman threw three touchdowns. One drive was 7 yards and another 17. Even holding the Bucs to FG's there we lose the game. The Packers defense gave up a single good drive by the Bucs all day.

Freeman completed 14 passes, less than 50% for the day, with an 86.1 passer rating. Our offense score SEVEN points in the second half against one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

Ten times the Bucs started insider their 30. The results? Seven punts, one FG, one missed FG, and one TD that should have resulted in an INT by Hawk.

We should have won that game by 30 and it damn sure wasn't the defenses fault.

Tell me, when the WORSE team in football is on their own 28 with 7 minutes to go, .does a good/great defense step up and force a punt? Or does a good/great defense step up and allow that team to drive for the go ahead TD?

Face it, the offense had a chance to step it up and it failed..The defense had a chance and failed

Both sides are at fault, but when a rookie q/b did what he did vs our defense thats embarrassing

This has been discussed at length here and on other sites I'm sure. So my thoughts may not come across as original to many of you. I guess In some regards, I'll be validating some of your opinions/comments. Just felt like saying something at the half-way point of the season. Haven't chatted with anyone since the preseason... how are you cheeseheads doing?

[1] The 3-4 talent doesn't exist on this team... that will take time to get done, but will the franchise commit to this scheme longterm? Will they hire a coach with a different scheme or one that has the background? Capers may be your head coach next year if that is the case and he will require decision making authority on personnel.
[2] The defense has a lot of starters (and contributors) who aren't that smart. The scheme is technical and includes a lot of nuance to be played at the highest of levels. Aside from Woodson, what defensive player(s) is a consistent playmaker with football instincts of other great players in the league (Harrison, T. Palo, Lewis, E. Reed, etc.).
[3] Woodson is a great football player, not a great leader of men... when your best player doesn't practice or set a tone (see R. Lewis, T. Brady, A. Peterson) the team won't max out.
[4] The Packers need some SOBs on their team. This team is too nice on and off the field... too many guys on Twitter, Facebook & MySpace... players are more concerned about the music business, endorsements, celebrity. This team is distracted by key players more concerned about what being a Packers player can do for them rather than what they can give to the legacy of this franchise.

I'm really looking forward to see how they compete with the Cowboys on Sunday... after the game I'll spend time with some of your fave heroes.

Actually dirt is pretty smart. How does it figure out how to get all that food and water to the roots and manage to corrupt the evil beetles and grubs and worms to help in the task.

I mean, if we had politicians as smart as dirt, we could....er, never mind, no one should want smart politicians.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Will Blackmon has been one of the smarter players on the Packers for several years. It hasn't done him much good. 🙂 (injuries much!)

That's OK, I deserve my beat downs. Doesn't change the fact that Nick has blown way too many interception opportunities.

dfosterf (3h) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (3h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (5h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (5h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (5h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (5h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (5h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (5h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (5h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (5h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (5h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (5h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (5h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (5h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (6h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (7h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (7h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (7h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (23h) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
