B.J. Raji

wut.

Raji hasn't shown a sliver of what Matthews has. i know you're exaggerating...but why you included Raji over anybody is beyond me.

Matthews can stay.

Raji is going to be a serious impact player in this league. The typical track for players at his position is closer to a Justin Harrell than a B.J. Raji. ---

Really.

B.J. Raji SHOULD need about three years to develop into an impact player. I bet he beats that curve easily. You are right abot Clay, though...

I want pressure on the quarterback. I don't see it. Do you see it?

Oh, I do, unfortunately it is invariably the other team bringing it. AK looks like a fish out of water in coverage, btw. He was knocked silly last game and we couldn't even tell. That tells ya something right there. I'm putting that on Dom. I thought he would be bringing more emphasis on getting the scheme to fit his players. I am not seeing that, if it means things like putting AK in a position that he is covering anyone. If that is the plan, then trade AK, period, imo. As good a pass rusher he is compared to our (still non-existent one---though Clay "flashes") AK is a net liability if he cannot do his job in coverage..and he simply cannot, imo.

I got bitched out by mentioning repeatedly after this past draft that what we look like on paper to me is a very good 4-3 football team, not a 3-4. I was told to STFU about that by some very well-respected posters, and I did so.

Well, fuck that. Dom (I was told) would "hybridize" He has not. That is on him. I kept asking what would happen if we didn't get to the quarterback on all those blitzes, etc. Like I said, Iw as told to STFU.

Zone coverages= bullshit said so then, say so now.

NT's dropping into coverage? Don't like it.

Trade AK

All these linebacker zealot assholes we have on this staff STILL haven't got the GD LINEBACKER corps right, for christ's sake. What, are we gonna chew up MORE draft picks to try and get that fixed???!!!

We have the WORST OFFENSIVE LINE IN THE NFL and we are STILL going to have to try and fix this shit?

It is time to trade some players... a lot of them.

I agree on Kampman. We should trade him. He has no place in a 3-4 defense. He's not an end and he's on an OLB. He should just go to a 4-3 team.

I see Dan Snyder getting his wallet out already. He should net us a decent pick.

Same for Ziggy Wilf, but he's not getting him.

Matthews isn't a designated rusher. He's a real OLB. One that would function normally in a 4-3, as well. I don't think that he'll ever be an elite pass rushing OLB, but just a jack of all trades. He'll show flashes, but he's no Merriman, Suggs or Ware. We'll be drafting a DE or two in the upcomming draft to fill that need, I figure.

Maybe Jeremy Thompson will be a solid back-up at that point.

Bottom line is, though, that you make these changes to benefit the team. Not one player. Especially our running defense has become a lot better. And our passing defense is just about the same. No pass rush equals a bad passing defense. It's that simple.

That said, I do think that we would get quite a bit more pressure out of the 4-3 this season. On the long run, though, I'm sure that this move will help us out. Again, a 3-4 without pressure doesn't go anywhere against the pass.

And I like the trickery that we're using. Letting people drop in coverage, letting others blitz the QB. We need to use that now, really, as, again, we don't have that one great rushing OLB.

Brad Jones will get to showcase his skills this week. Maybe he can get to the passer.

It might help if we actually ran the 3-4.

Cant trade Kamp now...I would bet they will tag him in offseason then trade him, that way they just wont let him walk with out anything in return

When the defense plays together sort of speaking, they're fine, but put most of these guys in space, they're exposed. Atari Bigby, A.J. Hawk, Aaron Kampman and even Nick Barnett can't play in space. If I can see this, so can offensive coordinators.

I also wouldn't say the 3-4 defense isn't working. It's certainly a better defense than it was a year ago. It's about average which will equal good sometimes and bad other times. The main concern I have is with the stubborn coaching. Dom Capers is fitting right in with the my way or highway attitude that Mike McCarthy has created. Capers would be wise to blend some 4-3 packages in with the 3-4. Surely, he picked something up from Bill Belichick who is doing the exact same thing in New England. Ironically, he's moved the team to a 4-3 from a 3-4 due to the players he has around him and more specifically Jerod Mayo.

Aaron Kampman should rush the passer 40 to 45 times a game if the team runs 50 plays. However, he's rushing 25 to 35 give or take. That's unacceptable. Al Harris should also play more press coverage. These are two examples of things Capers should work into the defense, but thus far, he hasn't. He's asking Harris to play more off coverage and Favre pretty much exposed him pretty good. Josh Freeman too. Kampman is way too stiff in coverage.

It's a mixture of GB doesn't have the personnel to run it and the coaching is too stubborn to adjust the scheme to fit the players' abilities rather than having the players adjust their abilities (which is easier said than done) so they can fit the scheme.

And this is what I was thinking. Not to the extent you're stating, but something like that.

We had a dominating D-line in 2007 and it was coming together in 2006. Those where the only years Kampman went over 10 sack with 15.5 and 12.0, respectively.

After that, when he had to generate the pass rush by himself, he only got to 9.5.

Now, don't get me wrong, that's still a very respectable number, but maybe we're overrating him a little. I mean, Jared Allen (who we like to compare him with) has Ray Edwards on the other side. Who do you think gets double teamed constantly? I'm going to go with the man who wreaks havoc on the right side.

And the Williams wall are decent pass rushing DTs, but not 'special'. They're the best run stopping duo, that's for sure, but no the best rushers in the league.

Of course, he's still one of the better rushers in the league. No denying that. He just needs a little help from his friends. I still think that we should trade him at the end of the season. Washington is licking its chops, already.
