Its not like the OL is the only issue. To me anyway.

You have Woodson and Harris (aging guys) as your number 1 and number 2 CBs. Safety issues. Driver is getting up there in age too. There are a bunch of things to fix. The pass pressure is not there, whether thats personnel or scheme is another matter.

Cornerback isn't an "issue," though. You're preemptive on that. It could be an issue, but thankfully we already have one future starter in Tramon Williams. How many teams do you know that can say definitively that their nickelback (Tramon) will fill in (and from the looks of it, nicely) for their aging corners.

Our only "issue" at safety is depth. Collins is a quality safety, and I think the same could be said about Bigby (although not to the same extent as with Collins). Bigby's only issue is staying healthy.

Donald Driver is old, yes, but is playing at as high a level as he has at any point in his career. And we have Jordy and Jones as our 3 and 4 receiver, and they've certainly shown good things so far.

The consistent pass pressure isn't there, you're right. But you have to think that once this defense becomes more comfortable (we are, afterall only seven regular season games into a huge change) the pressures will come.

Lang the only bright spot? Why do some dislike Colledge so much? Albeit I don't know OL too well, but I think he's doing fairly well.

I remember yelling at him once last night on the blown screen pass. We had plenty of room to develop the play but Pat Williams bullied Colledge and blew up the play. In Colledge's defense, he got bullied by a Pro Bowl caliber hungry man beast.

I think we should have more tackles playing tackle instead of guards playing tackle. I also think we have guards playing tackle because of their athleticism for the ZBS. Which, I think needs to be fully discarded.

I also think Ted Thompson will improve our OL somehow through the offeason. Probably by draft, hopefully a FA or two would be nice.

I'm down for overpaying a little bit for some young talent.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

I think the biggest problem with the ZBS is that the teams that have used it successfully build the offense around the running game and emphasis it to a much greater degree than we do. They have good run blocking TE's and cutback RB's. We are a passing team. We have a great passing qb and excellent Wr's and an emerging pass threat TE ( who is not, by the way, a run blocking machine).

The Tackles WE need are pass blocking machines who can run block straight ahead and push people out of the way. We need a young Clifton on the left side that has Rodgers back who rarely allows pressure. In other words a franchise Left Tackle. I like Lang and think he can play somewhere for us but not LT. I think he belongs inside somewhere and wouldn't doubt he challenges for a guard spot next year or may RT.

That's what I want. Big nasty linemen pushing people out of the way on the run and standing DL straight up on the pass rush. You know, I didn't think much of this Loadholdt kid for the Vikes but there is something to be said when he holds up better against Kampman than Barbre does against their guy. He's a big kid at 350+ lbs and I think our way of going more athletic 305 to 315lbs tackles is hurting us in the pass protection area.

Well if McCarthy wants to continue to pass 75% of the time they need to just go ahead and ditch the idea of having any player to fit a run scheme. Just get players who can pass block and get whatever you can out of the running game with those guys.

It is like we have it completely backwards. We base our lineman on our running game and we base our game schemes on throwing the ball. Just pick one and go with that.

I was just watching some of the game after I got back from class and Barbre was just getting absolutely dominated. Hopefully Tauscher is able to come back because I am not sure how Barbre keeps his job after that.

I give up on anything Mike McCarthy has to say... more so than a former QB.

One can watch the tape and see his struggles.. out of 7 games, he has played well in one week. Maybe two.. I have to be fair here and watch this weekend to say with any conviction. That is sad..

After yesterday I am thinking more that any improvement he had showed before was more due to Rodgers compensating. Barbre was barely slowing the guy down on a bunch of plays yesterday.

Barbre... can't stand him. I'd like to see a serious stud LT brought in (by any means necessary) and Lang moved over to RT. Spitz gets well @ center, and you might be looking @ a real NFL o-line at that point.

Agreed, particularly in reference to Lang at RT. He shows a lot of pop in the run game and would likely be better suited on that right side. More of a natural position for him. For this to work, though, we do need that stud at LT.

Mucky Tundra (16m) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (37m) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (1h) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (1h) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (2h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (2h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (2h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (2h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (2h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (2h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (2h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (3h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (3h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (3h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (3h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (3h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (3h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (3h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (3h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (3h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (3h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (3h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
packerfanoutwest (3h) : falcons are already ahead of us
beast (3h) : Packers will get in
beast (3h) : If Packers lose the rest of their games and Falcons win the rest of theirs, they could pass us... but not gonna happen
packerfanoutwest (3h) : they still are in the playoffs
packerfanoutwest (3h) : If Packers lose the remaining games,,,,at 10-7
Zero2Cool (5h) : We can say it. We don't play.
Mucky Tundra (6h) : But to say they are in is looking past the Saints
Mucky Tundra (6h) : That said, their odds are very favorable with a >99% chance of making the playoffs entering this week's games
Mucky Tundra (6h) : Packers are not in and have not clinched a playoff spot.
buckeyepackfan (7h) : Packers are in, they need to keep winning to improve their seed#.
Mucky Tundra (16h) : Getting help would have been nice, but helping ourselves should always be the plan
beast (16h) : Too bad Seahawks couldn't beat Vikings
bboystyle (17h) : We just need to win Monday night and were in
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch
buckeyepackfan (20h) : Am I wring in saying if Tge Vikings beat The Seahawks, The Packers clinch?
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : Agreed; you stinks
Zero2Cool (21-Dec) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
