OL ... I put it on the scheme being taught by someone who's never played in it before and only had one year of learning how to coach it. I want to fault Ted for the OL, cuz that's the easiest thing to do. If you have good OL that are working a poorly coached scheme, it doesn't matter how good they are.

Campen shouldn't be coaching ZBS.
McCarthy should realize this problem.

There's a reason why not every 32 team runs the ZBS. As Mark Schereth(sp) said. You need to commit to ZBS and the Packers haven't. We have proof of that with mm's comments every year that they run a blend OL scheme.

The OL falls more on Campen and mm than Ted Thompson from what I've seen and heard.

And little of that blame can fall upon Mark or Chad.

Oh, I couldn't agree more. Nothing in that post was directed against the players themselves. It was directed against the coach and GM who have told us that availability is what counts, and yet continue to field players who don't give us much availability.

Ironic that the vikes fan on here is the most rational. On Defense this team needs youth to fill in for Woodson and Harris, but otherwise is fine for years to come. !

Offense needs a replacement for Grant, and 1-2 real tackles (Barbre/Lang are/will be very compotent back-ups) and maybe one more wr to replace Driver. Otherwise that too is going to be very good for years to come.

If Ted Thompson FINALLY splurges this offseason on 1-2 tackles, and maybe some inside depth, this is a young team poised for some very good things in the future!

I agree with your last statement.

But really, do you think he'll do it? Has he shown, ever, that he places the appropriate priority on the o-line?

It's a fair question at this point, since we're risking a potential pro-bowl QB behind that "Baby Swiss" line.

Lang, IMO, is the only bright spot on the current OL. Tausch, once he's recovered, may have a couple years left.

Beyond that, we got a bunch of guys. Frankly, I'm not sure any of them are worth keeping past 2009. And none of them are worth keeping as starters.

I'm too tired of the OL woes to rant anymore.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that Rodgers can last the season without major injury or getting turned into the next David Carr. 😞
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I think if you look objectively at last season our biggest problem was on defense. Ted Thompson reacted by (and understand, this is a big move for him) trading up into the first round and thus locking up two great additions to our 3-4.

I can already promise you (not that it will take much convincing) that our offensive line is this year's singular issue of failure. Thompson is no beduin. He's been around, he understand football, and I'm confident that the offensive line will be suitably addressed. It's not like this offensive line has ever played worse, and moreover it is serving as an OBVIOUS impediment to our success.

My point here is Thompson addressed last season's inequity, the defense. If you want to argue he should have done more with the o-line, that is absolutely fair. My point is that I think given the failure of this unit (the o-line) he'd have to be crazy not to address it.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

I think we should have more tackles playing tackle instead of guards playing tackle. I also think we have guards playing tackle because of their athleticism for the ZBS. Which, I think needs to be fully discarded.

I also think Ted Thompson will improve our OL somehow through the offeason. Probably by draft, hopefully a FA or two would be nice.

I'm down for overpaying a little bit for some young talent.

You have a sound point (and aside from the fact that Capers appears to be Brett's bitch, I do think that D will round into something very good). I do assert (not arguing, as I know you agree) that more could have - and absolutely should have - been done to address that line. Perhaps Ted put too much weight on McC's counsel in that instance - I suppose we'll never know. What I do believe, and very strongly, is that any GM who doesn't exhaust every avenue available to him isn't doing the best job he can do. I'll need to see that effort this offseason from Thompson, because Rodgers' health is at stake, be it physical or mental.

It's obviously priority No. 1, followed by upgrades at RB and safety - count me in the "not yet ready to riot but getting very skeptical" camp, and ready to riot if our extremely promising QB doesn't make it out of this season intact.

I think we have some guys here that can play, I have seen them play well in spurts. But when week after week, season after season, we see similar issues along the line in pre-snap communication and responsibility gaffs, that speaks more to coaching than the guys in the trenches.

Lang gets a pat on the back. The kid went head to head with one of the NFL's best at the moment and played well. I am going to watch the game again with focus on Barbre and Sitton.. initial judgment on Barbre is he isn't getting it done.

Its not like the OL is the only issue. To me anyway.

You have Woodson and Harris (aging guys) as your number 1 and number 2 CBs. Safety issues. Driver is getting up there in age too. There are a bunch of things to fix. The pass pressure is not there, whether thats personnel or scheme is another matter.

Lang the only bright spot? Why do some dislike Colledge so much? Albeit I don't know OL too well, but I think he's doing fairly well.
