I suppose. I guess I just don't think of Ahman Green as a legend. My main memories of him are of wondering when he was going to fumble the ball. Then again, this was during the period when I was limited to listening to the games on the radio, so I didn't get to see much of him on the field. I have far more memories of Dorsey Levins than I do of Ahman Gren.

I still don't think I'd give him the number. He chose to leave the Packers for greener pastures and has done essentially nothing since. And like I said, he's coming in as the #3 halfback, not the featured horse.

But I'm an iconoclast, so I'm sure that colors things too.

He lost a fumble once out of every 99 or so touches. His fumbling issue was more of a problem in the in the earlier season of anything else and was due to his heavy perspiration.

Dorsey LEVENS.
Ahman GREEN.

Ahman also is tied for 7th with 1,883 yards in a single season in the NFL record books.

Ahman was offered something like 4 years and 23 million. No shit he took that instead of the ... 3 million for one year we offered?

Instead of nitpicking about the nav bar at Packers.com ... click HERE  and you'll see Ahman Green in the record books more than once. :)

Please note the total yards by Levens and Green.

maybe they wanted a bigger back who is familiar with the Packers offense and is a strong blocker.

i think rockmolder spoke for the 'critics' very well. If Ted is going to make a move, though I'm glad that he did, it seems that there were other options that could have been better.

Of course we're not going to find our ticket to the superbowl lying on the couch in October, but Ahman has been borderline awful since hitting about 29 Y.O. where guys such as Arrington or Rhodes showed some glimmer of life recently.

He's not being asked to be the featured runner. He's gonna be a 3rd down guy. I like him in that role.

Yeah, he only carries the ball in his left hand. Won't switch to the outside hand.

The biggest difference with Green on his first day back was his jersey number. With his former number, 30, taken by fullback John Kuhn, Green is wearing No. 34 in honor of one of his heroes, former Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton. It's the number Green wore in high school before changing to No. 30 in college at Nebraska, through no control of his own.

"I didn't even ask for 30, they gave it to me, so it kind of stuck with me," Green said. "To finish with 34 would kind of be an ironic thing because that's one of my favorite guys on the football field."

And Green is once again with his favorite team.

"I'm glad to be back home," he said. "The camaraderie I built with the guys here, when I walked back in here on Monday just for my workout, I could see it and feel it, and it's been a great feeling."

Sounds to me like the number is a "non" issue. Get it? 😉
