Rodgers has never missed time due to injuries. I don't think Jennings has either.

"pack93z" wrote:

Jennings has. I believe he missed the first two weeks of 07 season.

I'd also argue that Rodgers missed 1 game where he could have relieved Favre near the end of one of the seasons (maybe 07 again). I don't remember which season it was, but Nall came in to play whilst Rodgers was rehabbing his broken foot or tweaked hamstring and he didn't go.

Are we forgetting the Rodgers also played a half against the Pats in 06' and then went on IR.

The book was open on Rodgers coming into the 08's season.. I think he has hammered that injury question shut in the past season and a half. Especially the beginning of this season..

Let's not mention he played the half with the injury that caused him to land on IR.

Rodgers hamstring injury, as the coach and Rodgers said, if he was the starter, he'd have been able to play.

I really can't believe we're rehashing this ... again. Did I jump into this at the wrong spot or what??

Want my honest opinion at times, is that we think that guys can just be moved around like musical chairs on an offensive line.. like they are some plug and play type pieces of equipment that can be plugged into any slot along the unit and perform well..

This group at times is to hung up on the versatility stick instead of plugging a guy into a spot and allowing him to hone his craft there.. we get too cute.

It isn't just along the oline that this is true either.. it just seems to have the most impact. It is also why they overvalue guys like Jarrett Bush.

I really fail to understand the thinking.. people say Ted doesn't take risks... I say BS, in a lot of ways he takes to many on is roster depth.

"pack93z" wrote:

And that sir is why you're not a general manager in the NFL. Gotta think like someone building a team and remember, you only get 53 toys! :)

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

Completely understand the ramifications of the 53 limit, the Practice squad and the 80 man limit coming into the training camp.

I can think of three or four pieces of "dead" weight off the top that could have been used more effectively.

If Breno isn't worthy to be active in the dire shape we were in at tackle, there is no way he should be on the 53.

Jeremy Thompson comes to mind, doesn't fit either role on base defense, we have Brad Jones there as a developmental prospect, Havner can also play in a pinch.. we have enough cap money tied up in Brady to keep him around.

So this 53 man excuse is something of myth in this case where you have key spots uncovered with suitable backups....

"pack93z" wrote:

Let's try this again without being a complete douche bag... (me that is, not anyone else)

Jeremy Thompson was a coach favorite during the OTA's until he was injured so I can see why they kept him.

What are the 3/4 pieces of dead weight? I don't count Jeremy Thompson as one because they were high on him during OTA's an camp if I remember right. And I think the LB position is one of the major keys into a 3 - 4 working as it's supposed to. So, I think they wanted to cover their butt there especially with Barnett coming off the injury he had.

Last thing, sorry for coming off like that Pack93z, you deserve more respect in responses to you, especially from me.

HOLY FUCK! This thread started out about the importance of Atari Bigby and its at Rodgers and missing games? WTF!

Atari and Nick are very important to our defense. Without them, we lack depth required to be an aggressive defense. I think without either one of them, our defense becomes vanilla. I liked seeing players moving up to the line and then attacking or retreating against the Bears. I haven't noticed that until this last game. The only two games Atari has played.

Weren't they pretty high on Jeremy Thompson? Yes sir they were. I believe he was even starting opposite Kampman ahead of Pop an Clay during OTA's.

It's hard, but you need to put yourself in a more open minded position when thinking of cuts and what not and most importantly put yourself back in time with what was going on.

Am I saying they were right in not covering their ass at Tackle? No, I agree there.

I agreed with the cut at safety too because of the reports of him having a bad attitude and reoccurring groin injury made him not worth my time. HOWEVER, if they felt Rouse was that close to being cut, I think it was stupid to cut Smith instead of Rouse. I mean, seriously, what the hell!

Where were these comments pre cuts? Clifton had four booboo's better have a tackle, etc ... nothing was said then, but now that Cliffy and safeties get hurt oooh suddenly its a hot topic?

GM is a thankless job. 20/20 hindsight...

Think I only operate on hindsight.. I think you better check my track record there sir..

In cases like Thompson, that was early in camp, when he was clearly outplayed in preseason, adjustments could have been made.. would I have cut him? Maybe not.. but having a luxury of 6 outside linebackers yet not having an active backup tackle is ignorant. 7 if you count Havner.

BTW.. Bigby played a nice game.. his pick preserved the shutout and I thank him for that.

The majority of that post was a generalization of what I've been reading, not specifically you sir.

If that's true about Jeremy Thompson, I'm with you on he is dead weight then. I honestly lost track of him, which should be a clue to me that he's not really important any longer. After all what is that saying about everyone looks good playing in underwear?

Again, I do agree, the tackle position was horrendously accounted for and I'll even go further and say the RB position was too. Jackson, Wynn both seem injured too much. I'm thinking I'd have rather gone with a veteran RB and Sutton with Grant and the vet being cut once Jackson gets back.

Okay, I meant Rodgers had never missed time as a starter, but I'll grant you the IR stint (I was in Iraq at that time, so I'm not exactly well informed on that season). I did qualify my statement about Jennings, as I wasn't sure, and while you correctly pointed out he missed a couple of games, that's minor compared to the repeated patterns of missed playing time for the other guys I mentioned.

But this is way off topic.
