What do I expect?

I expect Ted and company to be searching the employment line looking for players that can play superiorly to the ones lined up at depth on the offensive line, most notably at tackle.

Not replacing off the roster, a guy like Lang will develop into a solid player in this league, but someone unlike Breno that can be counted on to be active on Sundays and help this team.

Not rocket science with the cap room we have.. shore up the problem areas on this club and move forward giving this club some stability at the tackle position verses the patchwork front we have thrown out there today. Period.

It's been four games guys. Four. Look at the statistics, we are basically the same offensively as we were in the first four games last year and we haven't even started performing well yet. The team will show it's true colors as we near the midpoint of the season.

"djcubez" wrote:

So what you are saying is that the Packers are right on schedule to be 6-10 again? That's not very encouraging.

I don't want any part of the statistics to be comparable to last season. I know that Rodgers had a good year last year (stats wise) but I want him and the whole team to have shown improvement.

It is interesting that GB brought in other tackles to take a look at and by not signing them they are saying that the players they have are better than the available FAs. What's with that? Too much :smoker: in the front offices?

Why is everyone saying its just the o-line when we have big holes on defense also.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I don't believe that statement about everyone is accurate, at all.

The biggest glaring issue we have on our team is the OL. You fix the OL, we have a better running game, better protection which is longer drives which means the defense has a better shot at being fresh down the stretch.

We do have some issues on defense for sure. Namely, the safety position. I read somewhere that we're losing our aggressive attack because we don't have a trusting safety next to Collins. Maybe once Bigby is back, we'll have some more gooder defense. 🙂

The Oline isnt as bad as advertised.. People are like "A-rod has been sacked 20 times like ohh my gawd!!" but Rodgers is a huge part of this sack problem. I can't remember the last time I saw Rodgers throw the ball away instead of taking a sack. There were times during the MN game where he would have pretty good protection and he wouldnt find anyone open.. ya ok Im fine with that.. good job not forcing anything.. but just chuck the ball out of bounds instead of taking sacks for the love of god!!!

I 100%. Honestly, if I was Ted I'd be freaking embarrassed as shit that after that many years he still has not established a effective OL.

I wonder if the problem is finding OL for the ZBS? I think we've gone a bit away from it, but we're no where near a full blown power OL team that I'd like us to be.

Our OL wasn't this bad in '05 when we were more of a power OL.

I think everyone seems to forget that just because we don't see anything, that that means nothing is going on behind the scenes that we don't get to see.
Just because we don't SEE Ted Thompson checking out trying to get more o-line men in to check out doesn't mean he's not doing it.

Plus, as was already said, he's NOT going to say PUBLICLY how he really feels. Behind closed doors i bet he;s chewing some guys out BIG.
Just the fact that he said he's dissapointed on the season so far shows he's not hunky dorry with how things are going.
He can't afford to get emotional, and make decisions based on emotion. That won't make things better.

Still, Thompson refused to pin the offensive problems solely on the line.

The whole protection issue is a combination of things, Thompson said. Its the blocking, its the reads (by Rodgers), its the route running, its the running game, its the whole thing. All those things have to come together. I think we have a very potent offensive, but obviously weve stubbed our toe a little bit in terms of getting off to a good start.

What do you guys expect, for Thompson to throw the O-line, Ryan Grant, Dom Capers and McCarthy under a bus?

"zombieslayer" wrote:

No, but I do expect him to get off his ass and do whatever it takes to fix this OL. Fix the OL and we get our money's worth for Ryan Grant and Dom Capers doesn't have his D on the field for 32-33 minutes a game.

As for Mike McCarthy, Ted Thompson & Mike McCarthy are tied together. I have a feeling if one goes, the other gets fired as well.

Would you guys like a control freak like A.J. Smith? Not his evaluation as he's solid, but the man is a control freak and his ego is why the Chargers haven't won a Super Bowl. He's the Jerry Jones of GM's. His personality is terrible and it's the exact opposite of Ted Thompson's.

Thompson knows whats going on. How do I know? Everyone knows whats the problem. He'll never pin it on just one group of players or one player. Not in public. That's not his style and not what he should do.

What a GM says to the press doesn't matter. Way to many times do people get worked up over what someone says to the press or what they don't say. It doesn't matter. It's all bs anyways. Why tell the truth?

So the fans can know what's going on... Why? All they care about is winning period and the best way to handle things is behind closed doors. That's what Thompson has done over and over. It's be hypocritical on his part to take the high road like they've done in some nasty cases like Javon Walker. Walker bad mouthed the Packers and demanded a new contract by going to the press. He went on Jim Rome.

Thompson replies about taking the high road and handling things behind closed doors. So then he's supposed to point out to the press what's really going on?

My point is what Thompson is saying behind closed doors is what really matters. If he's not calling out people in the meetings or at least being a little harder on those who need it, then that's a concern. Not what he's saying right now to the press gazette.

We just don't know what's really going on.

I will say this. This article is not the reason to be upset. The fact that Mark Tauscher or a Levi Jones hasn't been brought in yet is.

But once, just to be clear on the sense of urgency, I would like him to break rank and let loose on this under performance.. there is no way in hell Vince wouldn't have blown a gasket by now.

You can play nice in the press, but damn I would like to see that he is frustrated as well.. instead of just " I thought" or "I think" type statements.

There has got to be a middle ground in this, we shouldn't hire on either end of the spectrum... you say the fans shouldn't be involved or have knowledge, I say to a point, but we should be left in the dark..

At least not me, I find that part of the game a close equal to the games themselves.

Things are vastly different now than when Vince was in charge. I think that comparison really needs to stop, sometime ago.

I took more interest in the non Vikings QB snippet than everything else. I was thinking most would follow suit. Oh well. Bad timing on my part consider our last game, lol.

You can't compare Thompson to Lombardi for reasons zero stated. The game is way too different especially the press.

I think Thompson needs to leave the stuff that you want to Mike McCarthy. Once the season comes around, the GM needs to step aside and let the coach do his thing. When do GMs make noise during the season?

Never it seems like unless he's the coach too.

I think Packer fans should stick to getting on Thompson for the clear lack of effort in upgrading the offensive line during a time that they had a pretty easy chance to do so with one or two veterans.

Not having two veterans come in is a mistake IMO, but if all goes well, you can get away with it.

Not having one come in when you clearly need the upgrade, that is just inexcusable. That's what everyone should get talking about right now. Not Thompson's words to the press. Then again, I'm a lot more calm Monday-Saturday.

Why does Thompson hate veterans so much? Or appear so? I know in this article he's been claimed to say 'i can draft better', but seriously, get the hell over yourself. Do what's best for the team, NOW, not in April. If you see a free agent that you can do better in the draft, umm, get that free agent and use that draft pick on something else!

Of course you can't compare Lombardi to Thompson, apparently I did a poor job of explaining..

We have a ultra conservative GM both in approach and voice within the press..

There are other extremes in which the GM is too loud and too aggressive, that isn't what we need either.

But is it really that much too ask a GM to be a little more decisive in his words.. Vince was a little too far back.. but Wolf let his thoughts be known to this fan base. No?

My point is, why offer up such an ambiguous statement at all.. not all fans just eat the garbage that is fed to them.

If Thompson would have sew up this gaping hole with attempts at stop gaps for the remainder of the year, I would be much more content in the bye week. But he didn't.. instead he offers up an weak ass explanation of why we are struggling..

IMO, that just fuels the fire...

In the end, do I really care what he says, no. Actions speak louder than words anyway.. but he was mute there.

But it is his action I judge him upon anyway.. but it would be justified in my opinion if he opened up just a little on this team if he feels he has put the pieces in place.

It is simple for me.. fix the repetitive mistakes.. this offensive line has been influx for a couple years. Fix it so it as at least worthy of NFL competition.. is that really too much to ask.
