Rodgers one a few occasions did hold onto the ball no doubt, but is he being coached to do that?

Mike McCarthy would rather his quarterback take a sack than give the ball to the other team. And frankly, I agree with him. You ca only chuck the ball blindly downfield so many times before the odds catch up to you -- and usually at the worst possible time.

But that doesn't change the fact these linemen have to give Rodgers some breathing room back there. Either that, or our WRs need to flood the short routes. If he keeps running scared game after game, we're going to see phantom sacks start to rear their ugly heads.

There are times when he can step UP in the pocket and throw it AWAY. Throwing it up for grabs, and taking a sack aren't always the only options.

His pocket awareness at times needs to be better. The offensive line has been responsible for most of the sacks. But some of them could have been avoided with better pocket presence.

I didn't see the game, so I can't comment on his stepping up. However, in the previous three games, I saw plenty of times when he stepped up -- but the defensive linemen had such deep penetration that it resulted in almost an instant hit. I do agree that Rodgers has a tendency to roll out more than might be healthy.

As I've said before, if he starts throwing it away, his accuracy will decline and his critics will use that against him too. Or they'll laugh that he's too eager to get rid of the ball instead of looking downfield to make a play. It's really a no-win situation for him.

So how do you step up and throw it away? Wouldn't that be intentional grounding?

I agree that he can step up in the pocket some more, but I can totally understand that he has no confidence at all in his line to keep him safe when he does.

Just look at yesterdays game. Whenever he had to step up, because Edwards/Allen came on the outside, he'd pretty much had two choices. Step right into his own O-linemen and get sacked or wiggle out and run to the outside.

There were a couple times in the Minnesota game where Rodgers could have easily stepped up in the pocket and even taken off to gain a few yards. Rodgers is mobile so why not use that mobility more? I think that right there helps our offensive line.

If players like Jared Allen are speed rushing up the field, drop back...pull up and if no one is open take off. I would rather see a 3 yard gain than to have Rodgers get pummeled from behind.

He is way to hesitant as well when he pulls up in the pocket (rightfully so because of our offensive line) but he should seriously tuck and run if no one is open.

I think this opens up a lot more opportunities and helps our offensive line as well.

The interior line performed better vs. Minnesota than in previous games, and better than I would have thought against the Williams bros. Rodgers was definitely looking for lateral movement more often than stepping up, and it got him into trouble quite a few times.

You can throw it away while being between the tackles IF you are throwing it near a eligible receiver. Which is why I have said several times, I didn't see the passing lanes so I don't know if that was even possible in the few plays I feel he could have or should have.

Did have someone near the markers he could over throw it? Could he do that without worry of an interception? I don't know, but from what I seen, it appeared on a couple of them he could have. Throwing it away is not the answer to every single sack. It's a problem but not THE problem when it comes to sacks. I tend to pay more attention to the QB play than any other position cuz I know it a little better than the other positions. Again, I'd rather Rodgers as our QB than most NFL QB's playing right now.

Like you said, though, there's a certain risk involved when doing that. I clearly recall the last time he did that. He's no Brett Favre. Referees won't just give him the benefit of the doubt when he throws it 'close' to a receiver.

Next to that, you can risk a fumble easily when you give up pressure as quickly as we do. I've barely seen the ball being knocked out of Rodgers' hand while he's throwing. I think that this is one of the reason why it hasn't. Although, like you said, it might be a way to get the sacks down a tad bit.

No worries, I don't read every post and I don't expect everyone else to either. I just feel like a broken record and its no one's fault but my own. :)

Rodgers will get better, regardless of his HC.
