Before the season, someone asked on this board, what our concerns were for the team for this season. Many people replied "O line". Sadly, we were very right.
We need two things to improve dramatically (and I don't care how they do it). Aaron Rodgers needs to be protected and our running backs need better run blocking.
I don't know which I'm more tired of watching, our QB running for his life, our our RB attempting to dodge defenders in the backfield!
Our pass protection has got to improve and Aaron needs an outlet on every pass play.
As for the run blocking, is there some part of the zone blocking scheme that allows for defenders to penetrate the Oline? It is embarrassing. Ryan Grant has the worst job in the NFL. Here, take this ball, dodge both those D line guys, and pray to fall forward only to get back to the Line of Scrimmage. What the hell kind of offense is that?
I don't know if it is the players, the coaching or the play calling, but I did notice one thing in the Rams game. When we were near our goal line, all of a sudden our known running plays started working. What was different? Was there more urgency on the oline runblocking when a safety was at risk? Where is this level of play for the rest of the game? I believe that Ryan Grant is a good back, I'd just like him to get the chance to show me. While we're at it, get me some delicious U71 as well. Remember when we used to forecast our running play and still deliver with it?
On to passing. Spread the WRs. What happened to our Big 5? The Linebackers on opposing teams should be messing in their slow shoes. We should be generating mismatches on most passing plays. We have talent at about WR and TE, so employ it. Set up a quick slant on every passing play (or an RB in the flat for an outlet) and let Rodgers play.
