To be fair, McCarthy is demonstrating a move away from ZBS, but in the same way it took time to get the ZBS in, it's going to take time to get the ZBS out.

Why would it take time to take it out? Don't these "pros" know basic blocking?

Why are we talking about new coaches already? I don't think annual early struggles should be just attributed to him. It's also a bit of TT's fault for making the team count on inexperienced starters every year. It takes a while for them to develop chemistry and reps against legit number 1's.

As for the ZBS, yeah I've wanted to scrap since we first announced we'd implement it. I'm not sure why we felt the need to do it considering our other system was working quite well. I'd like to see us slowly transition back to a move man-based blocking scheme, but who knows because I'm not even sure if half of our future line is here right now. We could go in a number of different directions, but all I know is that what we got now ain't working (that also includes at RB).

I'm fine with zone blocking. I have no problems with it at all. In fact I like it, a lot.

Also for one of those article just because you don't pull someone does it mean your running zone. There are tons of plays you don't pull any OL in running plays.

Honestly I don't blame the system at all. I blame the coaches... and the players... but more the coaches. Because it has worked about every where else.

Honestly I strongly question Joe Philbin as the Offensive Coordinator and James Campen as the Offensive Line coach. I think they both might need a demotion. I'm not sure who'd I would replace them with.......

If Jeff Jagodzinski were to agree to a deal which he wouldn't get his pay until his 4th year with the Packers I would be okay. The problem with Jags is he keep trying to get promoted after spenting every little time some where.

If Tom Cable got fired from the Raiders I'd give him a strong look.... the run blocking improves a lot where ever he goes.

Also the Texans got a lot of good OL coaches.

I've played both power and zone run blocking systems and I was clearly better at power (what can I say I wasn't quick enough for zone) and I just like the idea and the way zone works more for a smart quick team. I'd say the best way to go was do both... I think it's a little harder for the players to learn if your doing both but it gives the coach and players more freedom

The difference is in power you attack your guy one on one end of story. In zone the OL double teams a guy at first and then it turns into power. Basiclly it's which do you want more one on one match up all the way around or do you want to double team the DL for a quarter to half a second which should help with DL puch but hurt the time it take to get the LBers.

I did not like the zone block scheme 4 years ago. I like it even less today. Maybe I am wrong but it seems to me that anytime Grant has gotten significant yards he did it on his own breaking 2-3-4 tackles on the way. How long is Mike McCarthy going to beat this horse anyway? :horse:

After this long either one of three things. the scheme doesn't work, they have players who are not good enuf or the coaches don't know what they are doing.

The biggest thing I don't like about the ZBS is that it is lateral movement, which doesn't get a push into the defensive side of the LOS. We end up to often with Grant or whoever getting hit in the back field. I recall one occasion in the chat this last game, where myself and others were saying good job Grant, when he worked for an extra two yards. Those two yards only to get him back to the LOS.

Block straight ahead, helmet on helmet, get a push a yard or two into the defensive side of the ball, then when Grant fights for them two yards, it is for a gain of 2-4 instead 0.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Don't get me wrong....zone blocking can be good........WHEN YOU HAVE THE PLAYERS THAT CAN ACTUALLY DO IT!
And obviously, we don't.
Thus, my desire to scrap it.

I've always said I'd rather a power OL instead of this pussy cut block zone stuff.

I still say that. Get some big fat large men in there to run the shit over people.

Remember the Ahman Green days? Where we didn't hide what we were doing? Came out with lineman at TE and rammed it down peoples throats.

THAT's what I want to see.

The only addition at this point I can think of is that we needed some more agile and athletic linemen who, because of that, could be better pass blockers as well. At least, that's my wild theory.

Hasn't worked out either, though, so if you ask me, we could go back to the big man pushing people out of the way.
