Did you notice that Wynn was forced to stay in and block instead of releasing to be such a safety value.. we have to fix some of the issues up front to open some of these options up.

Yes, I noticed. That's why I'm saying we need to try something different. Two games in a row, it's had the same effectiveness. If you have the RB chip and go to the flat, he's open for a dump. You start killing them that way, the rush hesitates thus giving the QB more time.

I don't like the idea of taking away options from the QB when it's not working. Have a RB and FB in the back field, one stays to predict heavy side rush and the other does a chip block and finds a hole to occupy.

Easier said than done, but SOMETHING needs to be done.

Next week will tell us a lot about what we can expect for the rest of the season. I would bet my next paycheck that Raji will play; Mike effed that up today and won't next week.

Agreed, Mike should have made Raji's ankle a 100% and found a way to get everyone active today.

Do you agree with my premise that Mike looked past the Bengals in this decision to not play Raji?

"oskarliminga" wrote:

I think if Raji could go without further injuring his ankle, he'd have been suited up and playing. Raji claims he's good to go, but seriously, what player is not going to say that? The Packers preach availability and accountability.

oskar, don't be ridiculous. If he had activated Raji, he would have had to deactivate someone else. It's always a balancing act. Raji is a rookie on a supposedly deep defensive line; he's not likely to start every game this year.

And that there is the predicament exactly why I call for Tauscher or someone of that ilk to be hired immediately so that they have a chance to be ready for the Vikes..

Breno isn't ready.. Meredith isn't ready.. and they must feel Lang isn't ready either.. we seen what a gimpy Colledge had to offer at tackle.. so the only way to slow down a pass rush is to:

A) Produce a Run game.. which would require the coaching staff to commit to the run.. imagine that.

B) Run a bevy of screens and quick dumps outs to stretch that box..

C) Find a couple of tackles that don't require assistance on just about every freaking snap.

We seem to be light on the C answer.. and the coach apparently hates the running game.. lol.

I'm doubtless in the minority. I don't think this is properly laid on McCarthy.

I think it falls on the front office/scouting/player personnel department. And that means TT, because he's at the top of that part of the organizational chart.

I don't have a problem with Ted Thompson in general. But I think the team in general just isn't very good at assessing OL talent. I mean, setting aside the Klemm/ODwyer/Whitticker TT-year-one debacle, it isn't that Ted Thompson has failed to put a lot of attention on the OL.

Oh, he hasn't gone after big free agents like Hutchinson and Faneca, to be sure. But he hasn't gone after big free agents at any position (unless one counts Woodson). But that approach to free agency hasn't really bit him except at OL.

When it comes to OL, the team just keeps shooting blanks. On good days people like Colledge, et al look "servicable" as starters. On less than good days? Well, we just saw another of those.

To me this reflects something wrong in the scouting/personnel evaluation department. I don't think we should talk about getting rid of Thompson or McCarthy if this team ends up 6-10 again. What we ought to do is clean house in that part of the scouting department that evaluates OL talent. And pay whatever it takes to hire the OL gurus away from other team's personnel departments.

I also readily admit that I was out of cigs, plus got a pretty good load on, so no direct assholishness is intentional. fyi.

Still, I am at once disappointed yet not surprised by both lines...sue me, or we can take it all up later.

I would rather have a 100% Raji for 13 or 14 games this year than an 85% Raji for 15 games.

And just how deep are we at nose tackle? Hmmm? This guy was drafted 9th overall to come into the new 3-4 and make an immediate impact. Unless his ankle is really bad, he needs to be out there. Sorry, but this was a coaching fuck-up (yet another one) as far as I'm concerned.

"oskarliminga" wrote:

You're implying that Raji was a healthy scratch? That his ankle is 100%? That he could not have further injured his ankle by playing today?

Is that what you're saying?

beast (7m) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere

beast (9m) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (3h) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.

beast (4h) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (6h) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (6h) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (6h) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (9h) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (10h) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
