GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Green Bay Packers have made their preseason a showcase of possibilities. The Arizona Cardinals hope theirs doesn't mean a thing.

Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the Packers dominated the Cardinals' starters in Green Bay's 44-37 victory over the defending NFC champions on Friday night.

Rodgers threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns as the Packers opened a 38-10 halftime lead.

"That's about as good as we can play on offense," Rodgers said. "Talk about exciting. We've got a defense like that that can stop them and we get the ball back at the end. So many weapons, great play-calling, and it's just us on offense executing."

Arizona fell to 0-3 and coach Ken Whisenhunt was peeved.

"It's embarrassing what that team did to us in the first half," he said, adding that he was disappointed in the Cardinals lack of maturity.

The Packers' No. 1 offense had four touchdowns and a field goal in their six first-half possessions as Green Bay (3-0) rolled up 357 yards. That gives the Packers' first-team offense nine TDs and a field goal in 12 possessions. The starters have not been forced to punt.

"I thought we were great tonight," Rodgers said. "Three games, no punts for the first team. Thirty-one points tonight. The line was great. I barely got touched."

The Green Bay defense was almost as dominant as the offense.

Charles Woodson had two sacks and forced three fumbles, one by Kurt Warner that was returned 24 yards by Aaron Kampman for a touchdown.

"I don't know how many days you have like that over the course of the year," Woodson said, "but if I can get a few of those in the regular season and help this team win, I'm happy about that."

The first-team defense has 12 takeaways in the preseason.

Leinart threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns in the second half as the Cardinals cut the lead to 38-37.

First-round draft pick Beanie Wells rushed for 46 yards in seven carries in his Arizona debut, including TD runs of 20 and 2 yards.

Whisenhunt called the running game "a bright spot on a dismal evening."

Wells' shifty 20-yard run in the second quarter was the first touchdown allowed by Green Bay's starters in the preseason. He missed the first two games with a sprained ankle.

"That was actually my first piece of contact since the first day of training camp," Wells said. "I'm definitely excited to have been in the game. I had a lot of butterflies going."

Rodgers finished 14 of 19 to improve to 28 of 37 in the preseason for 458 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. Green Bay has outscored its opponents 76-10 in the first half of the three preseason contests.

"I'm very pleased with what we were able to accomplish so far," coach Mike McCarthy said.

Packers starting wide receiver Greg Jennings left the game with a blow to the head on Green Bay's game-opening touchdown drive.

Arizona cut the lead to 38-37 on Leinart's 11-yard TD pass to Jason Wright with 38 seconds to play and went for the win. Early Doucet dropped Leinart's 2-point conversion pass, then Green Bay's Ruvell Martin returned the subsequent onside kick attempt for a touchdown.

Rodgers completed a 76-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Jordy Nelson. His other two scoring passes went to tight end Jermichael Finley, for 3 and 11 yards.

The only time the Packers stalled in the first half was when Mason Crosby missed a 29-yard field goal with 30 seconds to play.

Warner, who doesn't have a touchdown pass in the preseason, was 10 of 16 for 139 yards with one interception and one lost fumble.

Game notes
Arizona rookie RB LaRod Stephens-Howling left the game with a concussion after being hit by LB Danny Lansanah early in the fourth quarter. ... The Cardinals were without wide receivers Anquan Boldin (hamstring) and Steve Breaston (knee) and backup QB Brian St. Pierre (back). ... The teams meet again in Arizona in their regular-season finale on Jan. 3. ... Green Bay had seven plays of 23 yards or longer in the first half. ... Green Bay players injured in the game included S Atari Bigby (sprained thumb), DE Michael Montgomery (broken hand) and RB Brandon Jackson (bruised shin). ... There were three official reviews in the final 45 seconds.

Great game for the starters, we just blew them out of the water. The defense looks fierce and we're only showing some of the blitz packages Dom Capers has. The O-Line is great, such a change from last season, Rodgers is getting loads of time in the pocket. Finley, Jones, Driver, Jennings, Nelson.... now THAT'S a receiving group to fear.

Next weeks game probably won't be that exciting, and we can only hope Matt Flynn is back to full strength.

All I can say is Rodgers is looking phenomenal. I believe he is the best QB in the NFC North and will be one of the best in the NFL. He is already a top 10 QB in my books. I hope the protection for Rodgers holds up in the regular season.

The Green Bay defense was almost as dominant as the offense.

This was sweet to watch.

Well stats wise Aaron was top 5 QB last year. His looking amazing this year, picking up the blitz's scrambling and amazing pocket presence. He also seems more confident and more like a leader. I'm liking from what I'm seeing from the offense and defense thus far.
Glad To Be A Packers Fan.

You know me i always find something to complain about, last night i noticed with Rodgers playing so great that he does have a tendency i picked up and if i can pick it up i'm sure the Def Cords can. He favors throwing to his right alot. I noticed on a few blitzes the wr on the left had like a 10 yard cushion and the wr on the right is in tight coverage and he would throw it to the right. Thats the only bad thing i have to say about Rodgers. Now some bad things i have seen from the rest of the team and that is what is up with Crosby.

The defense starters are very impressive but the backups are getting torched every week so far.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

That recieving core is just NASTY. And with Aaron looking as good as he does, this should be a very fun year.

Crosby. let's just hope it's Ruvell and something that they can really drill and work on until it's perfect. 'cause yeah, that was mind-numbingly awful to watch him almost miss every extra point and miss easy fg's.

Offense: pretty goddamn perfect.

Defense: i'm a bit concerned about the pass coverage growing pains we're going to see this year due to the pressure packages of the 3-4. if we don't stuff immediately it seems we're bound to get burned.

and whoa feckin' nelly do our back-ups look terrible. i really hope we can stay healthier this year. we NEED to.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I agree with dhazer except for the thing about Aaron Rodgers throwing to his right. I'm not saying I disagree with him, I just didn't really notice it. I'll pay more attention to that next time.

I was very frustrated with the second half of that game. And Crosby, really? I've never seen him do this bad......hopefully he'll make up for it in the regular season.

He's one of the best kickers in the NFL, I hope he continues to do well, and let his troubles of this offseason go behind him.

You guys are now seeing what Aaron can do.

Aaron lit up the Cardinals.

Last week's game vs Buffalo..Rich Gannon was commentating that Aaron is SO ACCURATE that he actually throws the ball to the off shoulder of the receiver on purpose to be out of reach of the defender and always in the ideal position for the ball to be caught.

He said it's rare that a quarterback has the accuracy to be able to do that.

I saw him in college do that time and time again against USC. 23 straight completions.

YOU will see a lot of 8 straight, 7 straight, 10 straight completions from Aaron this season.

Dude's a surgeon with the ball.

Now you guys understand what I meant all those years in this forum(when no one believed me and blasted me for it), when I said Aaron's just as exciting to watch as Brett, but w/more accuracy and control. Watching him pick apart teams is just too much fun. Did you also see his runs last night?

I'm glad you guys are all seeing it happen now.

The number one offensive..Rodgers..oline..recievers and the oline played a complete game for sure. The defense as quoted.. in pressure packages had a gapping hole exposed in the middle if the Cards had enough time to get the ball away. The one play that haunted us the entire second half was the wide reciever screen. It burned us for a few scores and looked way to easy to run against our number 2 defense.
