While we do have depth it's hardly quality depth. With Rouse out with a serious hamstring and Bibgy not making a great deal of impact we're then left with Smith, Peprah and *shudder* Bush. Smith has shown enough already to be considered in contention for Bigby's spot (which either says a lot about Smith or a lot about Bigby). Do you guys think we have enough quality of depth? Whats our best contingency if Collins and/or Bigby go down?

# X-rays on Nick Collins were negative and he said he's fine.

# Aaron Rouse (hamstring) is day to day right now but could be longer. Charlie Peprah (knee sprain) likely will be brought along slowly. Packers had only four defensive backs to play the final quarter.

this worries me.

also, two things:

1) i thought Collins was having a terrific game. if he stays healthy and has a regular season like this Ted Thompson better give him the goddamn contract he deserves.

2) the announcers showed Bigby as a starter but i didn't see anything significant from him. was he really on field? i thought he was still injured. so hard to keep track of these guys' health.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

How many safeties are the Packers going to keep this year, I think I've read Capers likes to have a third safety in some sub-packages, does that mean we'll keep five? Bigby, Collins, Smith and Bush are locks - that leaves possibly one spot for Rouse (if fit) or Peprah.

I'm still not too happy about our players at this position, either.

Bigby is starting to look more and more like a one year wonder. He hasn't been showing us those big hits and that ball hogging skill that he showed at the end of the 2007 season (and a bit at the start of 2008). Right now, he's a LB/S tweener who's a slight liability in coverage. I hope that he'll play well in this 3-4. Maybe Capers can utilize his aggresiveness a bit better.

As for depth, I'm not too convinced. Smith seems ok, as long as he doesn't say or do dumb things. I don't want to see him get burned like he did in Pittsburgh.

I don't know what happend to Rouse. He was a PH.com favorite last year. He did have a nice pick in that Colts game last year and he might benefit from this 3-4, but he should just start following the play more and the QBs eyes etc. less. He seemed to be hanging with the QBs eyes a lot last year. It got us a interception in that Colts game, but it can be quite disastrous.

Peprah and Bush should be burried in the depth chart and stick to ST, mainly.

Collins has just been great. He's not that much of a big hitter and he's no Ed Reed (just yet), but he was very good last year, without any pressure on the QB. I can't imagine how good a (statistical) season he can have this year. I can see him playing deep in cover 1 from time to time and pick it off with his great hands and speed while the QB gets some pressure in his face.

I was never really sold on Bigby. But does this mean we might actually see Woodson playing safety again?

Putting Chuck Wood at safety is a waste of one of the best(if not THE best) players the packers have on D.
