Ok....I'm on for now but who knows how long. I need some help. Yesterday while online, out of the blue comes up this warning in a big red box that my computer is seriously infected. Then these pop ups keep coming up from my tool bar at the bottom the tell me to do this and that to eliminate the problem. When I click in what comes up is something I have to pay for down the road.

I ran 3 virus scans....McAfee, Norton and Dell and nothing showed up. Zippo, nada, nyet!! But I can't get rid of all this crap that keeps popping up. Anyone got any ideas how to eliminate this?

What is the name of the application that continues to pop up.. it isn't a virus as much as it is a creative application to "encourage" you to purchase their product.

Some can simply be uninstalled.. some embedded themselves and take a little more effort to remove. PIA..

This is what I would do..

http://www.avg.com/download-trial  and download/install the AVG Anti-Virus trial. After it's installed and the virus database updated, run a scan. Follow directions if any viruses were found. If not, then uninstall (unless of course, you want to keep the 30-day trial.. I think you can keep it forever, but will not have access to the full version).

Try out some anti-spyware software too. For all you know, it's just a minor spyware 'bug' that you are seeing.

No promises, and I'm not the best guy to ask about this stuff, but it's what I would do before considering doing anything else.

better yet Bob i do computer repair for a job and it sounds like the antivirus 1 virus which is a bitch. But if you can post what it says. I suggest going to www.downloads.com and getting the free version of avg antivirus and also do a search for CCleaner (yes to C's) and run that and get your self spybot search and destroy (also free on downloads.com) if none of that works do a system restore to a date that was before this started happening.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be šŸ™‚ (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Thanks guys.....I'll try some of these. I had to go through hell just to get back on the internet. After I logged out just before I couldn't get back on, but somehow figured out how to get Google to come up with my bookmarks.

I had that on kids computer took 30 mins and was gone.

I also got rid of that on a co-workers puter as well

Yeah it's a variant of it I had it once and it was a pain in the ass to remove. It just depends on which version of Vundo it is.

I agree with all that.

I would do CC Cleaner first, spybot next, etc.

It's gonna take out your passwords, Bob, so you might want to note those before proceeding.

system restore might not get rid of it all together got to disable it 1st

To remove the malware, you must first disable System Restore, then scan the system with up-to-date antivirus software - allowing it to clean, delete, or quarantine any viruses found.

After the system has been disinfected, you may then re-enable System Restore.
