Wife surprised me this morning.

She told me that I "have to work inside today."

I have been doing yard work, and have progressed to the back yard.

UPS man is coming with a new Dell!

Apparently I have been known to bitch excessively about my existing computer, so she took the liberty of purchasing me a new one.

Now I am in the midst of deciding on whether to add the new one to our network or just park my existing, what software I want on it, do I go buy another monitor and run both or do a transfer, yada yada yada

One of my decisions will be regarding office software.

I have MS Office 2003 home business version. I also have the professional version but do not use it, but I am thinking about bagging all of that and going with Sun/Java/Oracle whatever OpenOffice.org

I did a (very) little research, and came across this:

"Does not work with Windows 7"

by 00mn on May 1, 2010

Pros: unknown to me

Cons: Will not work with Windows 7 on my PC

Summary: I downloaded this program. The next time I turned on my machine, my browser (Firefox) would not load from any source. Ran the trouble shooting tool to no avail. Uninstalled, restored and presto my browser was back and running just fine. I was attempting to run this on Windows 7 PC. It may work for laptops, but not my PC. Disappointed.

Anybody running 7 and OpenOffice.org? Did you experience this problem?

I like firefox and use it pretty much always unless some (rare) problem develops...

Tips, suggestions, etc. appreciated on any aspect of the whole "New Computer transfer XP to 7 etc. thing"

I have successfully got 2003 office to run within Vista.. haven't tried 7.. but I would have to believe it would run.

To answer your open office.. yes my Wife's laptop is running open office on 7 beautifully.

Hopped on msdn quick.. Office 03 is compatible with 7.. should have no issues.. with Vista you had to cheat the register nonsense or you kept getting this version is unregistered.. don't know if that has been resolved in 7.

Ya, I'm pretty sure the 2003 office is going to run fine, backwards compatibility and all that MS has always done, but I'm thinking that the openoffice would be quite a bit more "modern", file types supprted, etc.

The new one comes pre-loaded with that Works9 crap, which will be the first thing to go--well, after I dump the pre-loaded McAfee (I pay my ISP for our security suite and it is the shit---FIOS)

Whatever you do, set up remote desktop. That stuff is awesome. It's like a computer within a computer.

I have both OpenOffice and Office 2003 on my Windows 7 RC computer, no problems with it. I would assume that would be the same with the retail Win7.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I went ahead and downloaded OpenOffice.org

It is chock-full of neat bells and whistles, and while I'm going to have to invest some time and effort to learn how to use all the features, I feel that the differences between Office and that program are insignificant enough to allow me to hold in abeyance downloading of Office software.

[strike]There is one thing that is bugging me about it, and this seems ridiculous, but I need your wife's assistance, Shawn...

The program loads a shortcut on to your desk top for the whole thing. Then when you click on the shortcut, it opens a window with all of the applications...word processor, spreadsheet, database, etc.

I cannot find a way to create a shortcut for each individual app. separately, either in the app or whatever the hell 7 calls explorer. I'm sure it is something obvious and stupid, but damned if I can find it. It's no great big deal, but Shawn, if you read this, ask your wife for me, will you?[/strike]It is simply amazing how shitty my old comp was compared to this one.

Nevermind--Had to go through a hoop in order to drag and drop--some participation thingamajig-fixed

dfosterf (2h) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (2h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (3h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (3h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (3h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (3h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (3h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (3h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (4h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (4h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (4h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (4h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (4h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (4h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (4h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (6h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (6h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (6h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (22h) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : uh oh
