Its not the system that is messed up; its the fact that there is a system that is the problem.

Why does it have to be so structured? Why can't the Packers decide what Raji is worth to the team without waiting for someone else to sign, that has nothing to do with the Packers?

Paying draft picks based on where they were drafted makes as much sense as paying them according to their Madden rating.

Just because someone was drafted 9th, doesn't mean that they are worth more than whoever was drafted 10th, or worth less than whoever was drafted 8th. There are other variables to consider.

Another thing; I keep hearing people talking about how these players that were drafted have "market value" False.

If we were talking about free agency, then we could talk "market" value. But that fact is, these players are negotiating with one team.

There are no counter offers. So the term "market value" does not apply here.

There should be salary caps for rookies. For example, 1st guy that's drafted, can't get more than 8 million per year etc...

I think the agents are just trying to land a big payday now since a new CBA will probably have some sort of limit to rookie contracts.

Guys that never played a down become instant millionaires. How many times have we seen this cause guys to do NOTHING to EARN that money? Go back over the 1st round of each draft for the last 10 years, and see how many millions were wasted on guys that didn't pan out.

Yeah, I agree with all of you, especially IronMan.

Lets just hope that they do it right with this next CBA. I'm willing to bet we'll have alot less turds in the league once they eliminate the 'system' for these worthless rookies to make millions for running a fast 40 yard dash.

I don't know man. I've never really heard of a job where they don't figure out competitive salaries based on what other people make nowadays in that job slot.

I know what you are saying.. But then again, companies don't pay big time right from the start, compared to their 'veterans'. In fact, a lot of companies are canning their 'vets' to hire newbies because the new guys will work just as hard, but with half the pay/benefits.

The NFL is a bit different. Even though I know what you are saying.

Crabtree is starting to really piss off not only 49er fans, but other NFL Players....

Maybin quits Twitter, ties holdout to Crabtree

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 11, 2009 6:13 PM ET

If your idea of a productive afternoon is learning fun facts about Bills holdout defensive end Aaron Maybin, then Tuesday was an outstanding day.

1. Maybin has a publicist, which is somewhat surprising on its own for a player so young. The fact that Maybin's publicist is former Redskins linebacker Lavar Arrington blows my mind.

2. Arrington, also a Penn State product, essentially blames Maybin's holdout on Michael Crabtree.

"This Crabtree kid is putting people in this predicament," Arrington said. "I just think people's hands are tied until this guy gets around to doing what he's going to do."

It's hard to argue with Arrington there. It would be shocking for Maybin to sign before Crabtree's deal comes in at this stage.

3. Maybin quit Twitter Tuesday afternoon until his holdout is over, apparently tired of all the negative messages people are sending "@" him.

"Unfortunately, because of the ignorance and stupidity of some people on twitter, I have decided not to sign on again until my contract is signed," Maybin wrote.

"I'm tired of having to defend myself and my love for this game and the Bills franchise every day, to those who know nothing about the business. Thank u 2 all of my real Bills fans. U are the reason I work as hard as i do & u will see A.M. very soon!"

Maybin's decision to turn off Twitter sounds like a healthy decision. (It might be a good idea for all of us.) Arrington watched the Hall of Fame game with Maybin and said it wasn't easy.

"He was in tears not being able to be out there Sunday," said Arrington.

With Crabtree's holdout showing no signs of letting up, Maybin may have to get used to watching his teammates play without him.
