Good point LT..

So that begs the question:

Does Grant receive 60% of the overall carries this season.. or will it be a workload by committee type arrangement?

I happen to believe Grant had a decent year last season despite poor blocking and the inability to find a second gear in the second level of the defense.

But Jackson is awful quiet this camp.. Lumpkin and the rook making little noise.. so that leaves Wynn up to this point with the best chance.. albeit it is early in camp yet.. interesting to see how it plays out.

BTW Dakota.. new game dragger? 😉

I dont care how many carries he gets..He needs to make the most of it..

I HOPE He returns to form but if by week 6, he is looking the same as he did last year, time to get someone else in there to help him out

I wouldn't wait till week 6.......if he shows he doesn't have "it", i'd put someone else in and give them a chance. Maybe Deshawn Wynn can get it done.

benching a dude early on can be a good way to light a fire under their butt. nothing makes me work harder than when i know someone thinks i can't get the job done.

I do agree 100 % that you can get a good feel for his ability before week 6, but as we know other factors attribute to the rb success too

That way by week 6 those should all even out..Blocking, his ability to make people miss, etc...

At least that is how I see it

If the O-line gives him a hole, he can get it done.

Oh, for sure! It's NOT all on the RB. But if the blocking ISN'T getting it done after a couple weeks, put in Wynn, who is a one man wrecking crew and let him beat the crap out of the other D.
Of course I HOPE Grant is back to 2007 form, and we don't have to worry about that.

Especially after reading some of the camp tweets. Apparently, he's really developing a 'sixth sense'. He just has a natural feel for what happens around him, apparently.

He might not be the most athletic guy, but it sounds like he might actually get the job done. Jackson will really have to fight for the 2nd string spot.

Hey, it's true. With the O-line doing as bad as it did last year, giving Grants no holes and barley giving A-rod time to pass, I hope the can do better. :thumbright:

McCarthy has stated publicly that he wants more runs up the middle (as opposed to outside runs) which should suit our current RB roster well.

"all_about_da_packers" wrote:

I really hope this is misinformation on McCarthy's part, because I don't think runs up the middle suit our roster -- at least not Grant -- well at all. I've watched a lot of reruns of games from last year, and it continually reinforces for me what I noticed last season: Almost all our long runs went outside right, with a few going outside left. The vast majority of runs that were snuffed out at the point of contact were smashmouth up the middle. It frustrated me no end watching us try over and over to smash it up the middle, get stuffed almost every time, and then break out a longer run off the right or left once or twice a game. In that regard I don't like McCarthy's bullheadedness. I say go with what works, even if it doesn't necessarily fit your pet scheme.

But maybe with our revamped line this year, we'll be better equipped for runs up the middle. I'm willing to give this team the benefit of the doubt, but past results aren't indicative of future success.
