I think the Giants overpaid based on talent level, but instead paid on revenue streams that the Manning name bring in.. plus the fact he did make it to a superbowl there.

I agree with them over paying for him, like i said i don't like him. But as far as the one game Brett had how does that shoot down my not qb friendly statement. What did he do for the rest of the season?

I think it's a fairly accurate comment that dhazer made about the stadium. You have to modify your game a little bit, and you can see it in Eli's numbers from the 2008 regular season. His passer rating was basically identical home and away, but he threw for more YPA and many more INTs away. It looks like playing at home lowered his overall production, but was safer, as he had only 3 INTs at home vs. 7 away.

Yet here we are a throw first team in the north and excel at it.

Here is the point, that new stadium is what a couple years old and we see Favre put up respectable numbers in the joint prior to his injury.. hell I might have pull up other QB's number there to see that as a litmus test of better proportions.

Which quarterback deserves x amount of money based on y statistics almost invariably misses the entire point that I personally have been trying to drive home for any that care to listen...And to those that do not care to listen, for that matter.

When an NFL team finds a quarterback that is not, at a minimum, a liability to the team, much less an asset, they are going to have to try and hang onto him, almost without exception. The market for functional quarterbacks in this league is going up, up and up.

The who is better than who argument is for stat fans, barroom discussions, etc.

The reality is that all of them are going to get what the market will bear. The market is the market. The only way to get around that reality is to do precisely what our GM did. He went "early" in the sense that Aaron Rodgers had not proven himself to the degree that would warrant full market price. Why this aspect escapes so many is beyond me. The brilliance of it is that I am pretty confident that Aaron Rodgers and his agent understood the leap of faith Ted Thompson made at that time and context. It is evidenced in the nature of the contract that he signed, heavily dependent upon performance-based incentives.

Is Eli worth more than Aaron? Not to the Green Bay Packers, he isn't. Is Jay Cutler worth more than both of them? He probably will be worth an incredible contract to the Chicago Bears... Why? Because if he plays as advertised, him and his agent will have the Bears by the short hairs. If, for example, Cutler were to put up numbers identical to say, Rodgers numbers from last year...How much do you think it will cost the Bears to extend that contract. I do not know, but I know it will be more than the 680k base and 7.9 LTBE that Rodgers' commands.

Ted made a leap of faith and we are being rewarded, at least $$$$ - wise, imo.... and if there is any such thing as a "home-town discount" or it's equivalent (which I sadly doubt)..What Ted did is about the most a GM could do in that department for future negotiations.

1) The day a bunch of football fans don't label a player who just signed a big contract "overrated" is the day I'm wearing a skirt and asking to be called Sally.

2) Eli, on an objective, football-only basis, is probably not worth that money - but there's a lot more to that contract than simply football between the white lines. He's the star QB for the NY Giants, like it or not.

3) I won't really have a complete opinion on Eli until he shows that he can succeed without Plaxico - that man has made a lot of QBs look good over the years, and the Giants were not the same when he wasn't on the field last year. IF Eli can go out and win/have good games with what he's got this year, then I'd say the Giants got their money's worth.

Our guy is pretty good, but there's no need to denigrate other QB's to make him look better. During the Favre era, Packer fans were always saying how overrated Peyton Manning was. I didn't buy it for a second. Peyton is one of the best QB's ever, just like Favre is.

Eli and Ben are not big stats guys, but they are clutch performers, and they were key players on their championship teams. So at this point, both of them deserve more money than Aaron Rodgers. I'm hoping that changes, but that's where we're at right now.

I don't see any connection here. I'm just saying that Eli is one of the most overrated guys. Does that mean that I'm protecting Rodgers this way? P. Manning, Brady and Rivers are all great QBs and currently better than Rodgers is. Eli Manning just isn't.

His play in the SB was actually just decent. Nothing great. The real miracle workers where Tuck, Umenyiora, Strahan and, especially, Spagnuolo where the great players there. Eli, however, makes a lucky play to Tyree (Amazing, nontheless) and throws in an easy fade to Burress and is a SB hero.

I also saw something about Eli leading the Giants to a victory over us, but he was even mediocre in that NFC Champions game. He might've made some nice throws, but had a mediocre completion percentage, mediocre yardage and no TDs. Of course, that's not all that you can judge by, but those are some of the things that make me dislike this deal.

Last point. He did all of that with a defense that could hold the 2007 Patriots to 14 points. A running game consisting of the deepest core of HBs in the league with a very strong bruiser leading the pack and a very strong interior O-line. He has little to complain about the Ts either.

I kinda wonder what Rodgers contract would have been if we were to have a good winning season next year and have to set up a new deal then.
