I think Vick COULD run a variation of the Wild Cat, however we do not, nor do I think they are going that way. It's not their style, as they've shown the last few years anyhow. Vick also wants to be a starter and feels he's one of the best 32 QB's in the world.

I see Vick landing on a team that's desperate, I don't see us as being desperate. Our organization is too classy for Vick and the ensuing drama to follow. Don't think for a minute that PETA is not going to be at the door step of whatever NFL team signs him. Packers do not want another circus.

If they brought Mike Vick in, I believe he would come in as the functional equivalent of a running back who might share quarterback duties in certain formations. I don't believe that our front office is giving any serious consideration to jettisoning either of our backups in favor of a retread who's been out of football for over two years and barely has a 50% career completion percentage.

Couple of thoughts on this topic.

If the Leonard Little's, Ray Lewis's, Lawrence Taylor's, Micheal Irvin's of this NFL planet can have chance after chance to play the game, how can Mike Vick be such a plague to the game?

Look, I absolutely don't condone what Mike did, actually I am sickened by the thought of it. But in the same regard, he paid the price the courts placed upon him and any further trials aren't fair to the guy.

Do I want him on the Packers, it would have to depend on his mindset, how well he has kept his body in shape and how he would do in a workout. Mindset is the key.. is he serious about playing team ball, his he truly out to correct the missteps in his life? Is he serious about changing the dark culture of dog fighting in general?

IMO, what better place in the NFL would there be to change your lifestyle.. add to the fact that Tony Dungy is now his personal mentor.. that bodes well for him as a person.

But think not of the media circus the first couple of days would bring, think of the long term potential to make a positive impact on Mike Vick, the youth that may still look up to him and society in general in getting a message out against dogfighting overall.

I can't answer any of these questions because I will never have the ability to sit across from him and find out. But I don't think it is a bad idea to look into whether there is a fit for him on the team, in the locker room and in the community.

Do I think it is past the investigation stage at this point, probably not, but we have a need for a proven backup on the roster. Can he make the throws in our offense, can he mentally pickup the playbook, can he find the patience as a passer.. those could only be answer if the preliminary discussion bear fruit.

It is interesting that it made it outside the coaches.. maybe by design to see some public reaction to it.

I think we might be too small of a fishbowl.. but you never know. Ray Lewis has been embraced nation wide again..

From Vick's perspective it would really benefit his career to work with a good QB coach like McCarthy.

If they brought Vick in as a so-called "veteran backup," I'd be pissed off. We don't run that kind of offense, and thank God for that. I consider a run-first option defense to be an abomination and I hate watching it. If he was brought in for a limited role in a Wildcat package, I would not be opposed to that. The major problem I see with it is that it would seriously complicate our gameday roster. If he were active on gameday, that would mean both Brohm and Flynn would be inactive, which would make Vick our de facto backup if Rodgers went down. Ugh. If he were brought in as a running back, he would have to be incorporated into our regular progression as a running back (third down option, etc.), a development I think he would look at askance. So overall, bringing Vick in would either upset the balance in our locker room or necessitate a player being cut or traded.

So the question then becomes, which one of our current running backs or quarterbacks do you want to see go for an unproven backup who's eventually going to be bucking for the starting job? Remember, the chances are we'll get virtually nothing for them in a trade, so they'll probably have to be cut, meaning we'd not get compensated for their loss at all.

I'm not opposed to bringing Vick in, but I can see a lot of potential downsides as well.

The question the Upper Management has to ask is "are The Packers a better team with Mike Vick as a member?"

He screwed up big time in Atlanta.

He has done his time and paid for his screw up.

Some will never forgive him for what he did(which is their right).

A majority will in time forgive and move on.(Someone mentioned Ray Lewis...good example).

I say bring him in, treat him like a rookie, sign him to a minimum 1 year contract, make him show he is serious about becomeing a model NFL player.

No talking to the press!

No entourage of idiot hangers on.

No lawyers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His agent can do any talking that needs to be done.

Serious community service!!!! With kids and the local animal shelter.

My answer to my original question. IMHO The Packers would be a better team with MV on their roster.

If he really wants to turn his life around and give back to the community, the Packers are a pretty good landing spot - pretty restrictive when it comes to the public persona and not much else to do in Green Bay.

He's going to want a lot of money though.

I do not think the Packers are a better team with him.
What he did was wrong, but in the same sense, he's served his time for his crime.

Fact is, I was never impressed with Vick as a QB and even if he would not have helped all dogs go to heaven, I still do not think he helps the Packers.

We have a decent QB. Two young QB's.

Now if we were to dump Brohm, I could see us considering Vick in a limited role. However, Vick wants to start, Vick needs to start. He has a lot of debts to pay off apparently.

I think Vick would have a better chance with a team like ( I know theres a list of teams who've written him off ) Vikings, Eagles, Dolphins, Jets, Saints, Titans, or something like that just to name a few off the top of my head.

Vick's assets just don't meet the Packers needs, in my opinion. Although, I have to admit, I have not and will not put much thought into it. Vick wants to be a QB, starting QB at that and I just do not feel he has a chance in hell at starting with us.

I think if he were to sign with an NFL team, GB would be a good fit for him on many fronts. Plus, it would be good for GB too. Hear me out.

Strong leadership within lockerroom to keep him on track.
Not a lot of bad areas and people to get messed up with

I think he fits the west coast ok too. He is a good short, quick passer with tons of mobility, as someone said before, remmeniscent of Steve Young.

For the Packers, it would be agreed on that he would be the back up. Much better than eitehr Flynn or Brohm. Coach him up, show he can play and more importantly, is now a reformed citizen, than trade him!

Think what you could get for him once the league sees that he still has "it" and is a good risk.

Makes sense to me!

After all, some of the "boys" of WI could take him to the backwoods and show him what else is done with animals! (i know, I know...)
