It's outrageous that these rookies are getting payed so much. MORE than veterans (most anyway)!

Is the sky falling yet?

Seriously, nobody will forget to play football if they're not there by Day one or two or three and so on. The best thing for both sides is to get a deal done that both sides like and not rush a deal. If you rush it, then you have to deal with an unhappy player three years from now.

Matthews signed today and Raji will likely sign within the next week if not sooner. I don't see a problem with Russ Ball's negotiation tactics nor do I see a problem with Raji's actions throughout this.

There is no problem. Not yet anyway and I personally don't see a problem occuring anytime soon.

While we are not probably going to push this window, to say that missing a week is no big deal, Gil disagrees.

http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/article/2009-07-27/holdout-how-wreck-rookie-season

"Any player who misses more than three days of camp is taking a serious risk," said Gil Brandt, long-time personnel director for the Cowboys who now is an analyst with NFL.com. "What rookies see at OTAs and minicamps doesn't compare to what they see at training camp. Everything is accelerated 100 percent.

"Historically, rookie holdouts have a hard time playing well and they often suffer injuries after they show up."

With camps opening around the league and dozens of top draft picks still unsigned, here is a look at the top seven unsigned rookies who least can afford a lengthy holdout:

B.J. Raji, NT, Packers. This is another team switching to a 3-4 scheme. They want to plug in Raji as a run stopper at nose tackle. Green Bay's offense looks potent on paper, but their run defense was shredded like paper last season, ranking 26th in the league.

Will Raji make a difference? It very well could depend on when he reports to training camp.

Gil is trying to make a story right now because there really isn't anything to write about. People overreact to holdouts because it's the dawg days of the football season and everyone needs something to complain about.

Again, rushing a player into signing a deal or overpaying him is not the right thing to do. You potentially have a problem down the road with an unhappy player or a team that gave into the demands of a player and now are suffering the consequences because of it. You draft for the long-term in my view. You should treat his contract that way too.

Will Raji forget about to play football in a week?

No he won't. He'll be behind, but he can catch up. In today's NFL people think rookies have to come in and be a star right away. I don't think that. I think Raji will be a starter, but he'll have his good games and bad games as a rookie because he's a rookie. There are exceptions, but it has nothing to do with days one-three of camp. It has everything to do with the player. Missing a couple days of training camp will not have an effect on whether or not Raji is a good player over time. If the excuse is he missed training camp so that's why he's playing poorly in week ten, then the Packers made a bad pick.

Raji deal not close
Barring significant progress in the next few hours, don't expect the Packers to reach a deal with B.J. Raji tonight.

According to a source familiar with the negotiations, the Packers and Raji's agent, David Dunn, are in a holding pattern in large part because none of the players picked close to him in the first round have signed yet.

The sides are believed to be waiting for a deal to get done between Jacksonville and tackle Eugene Monroe (picked eighth and right before Raji) or San Francisco and receiver Michael Crabtree (picked 10th and right after Raji).

Raji and Monroe could be in line for similar financial packages because both play non-skill positions. But Crabtree is believed to be complicating the salary structure of the top 10 not only because he's a skill-position player but because he was once projected as a top-5 pick and reportedly wants to be paid as such.

The source said it didn't seem likely that the Packers would finalize terms with Raji tonight. If it gets done before the first practice of camp tomorrow at 2 p.m., it might not be with much time to spare.

who gives a shit? So it gets done on Monday then. Big deal! Nothing's happening, which means we need to work extra hard to resist the urge to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Whoa.. slow your roll.. it is something to discuss and more of a reason for this nonsense to get straightened out in the next CBA..

Is it really that upsetting that a few of us have a pet peeve with us seemingly always pushing the deadline?

What else are we to talk about... making fun of the Vikings and the waffling of Favre.. are we not exhausted of that after two offseasons?
