Chargers GM AJ Smith just told me: "The only thing Ive thinking throughout this whole (Favre) situation is how smart Ted Thompson looks."

If the Vikings honestly let Favre waltz into the last week of training camp and anoint him the starter, what kind of message does that send the rest of the team? You don't have to be here to work hard and earn your job?

It's bad enough he's got egg all over his face trying to court Favre the past two months. I'd have to think the team would give a collective and silent FU to the coaching staff and front office if that happened.

Barring an injury, I don't see how Balldress can honestly let Favre waltz in halfway through camp and just hand him the starting job without losing what little confidence the team has left in him.

Does anyone REALLY believe it's over? (I don't)
This whole thing reminds me of the "Friday the 13TH" movies, where "Jason" gets killed over and over and over..........yet when they sigh and say "It's finally over" they look to where the body is SUPPOSED to be, and POOF! He's gone! Ready to kill the next victim!

It isn't over........AARP will be sending him stuff, and it STILL won't be over.

I'm kind of let down. I thought we were going to see a REAL circus this season. Plus, i dyed my wife's Favre Jets jersey purple.......should i throw it out, or hold onto it just in case???
(I'm gonna call Brett up and ask him.....LOLOL!!!)

Maybe this happens ....

lol ... I know ... won't happen but I thought it'd be funny.

Maybe THIS happens:

1. Brett gets signed for one day,
2. He'll play that day as our starting No. 1 QB,
3. He'll be named MVP of the game,
4. After the game his jersey will be retired and
5. he'll retire as a Packer.

That day will be 2-7-2010 in Miami

I know ... won't happen but I thought it'd be funny.

Have a nice day,

It was a tight game, and it swayed back and forth. And sure enough, he pulled out a victory at the end...
I swear to you, he smiled while he was doing it. He smiled til the end.

Just heard on NFL Network that he's "going to keep throwing" because he's torn over his decision. This is not over yet.

I wanted the Pack to play him. I wanted to see his diva ass on the turf and his team beaten and him embarassed, along with his crotch-sniffing apologists. Of course, I do not know what the outcome of those games would be, but that is what I was hoping for.

I don't know if this is over, because I don't believe him. It's kind of like not knowing how well he would play, or what the reasons are for him playing poorly down the stretch last year. Could have been the arm, but personally, I don't believe that either.

R.P. said this is a bad day for Packers fans because the Vikes are better off without Favre as their quarterback. I lean slightly towards that, potential and talent-wise, ( I think T-Jack will win the job and continue to improve, but that is an opinion with quite a bit of speculation interjected)but the situation is so different there that it must be taken into account. Just like his shadow follows the Packers around, due in my opinion to so much unfair, stupid and blind criticism of how his retirement was handled, the same kind of idiots in Minnesota that we have will be second-guessing the Vikes FO throughout training camp, the pre-season, and during the season.

Favre will probably be "laying in wait" for an opportunity to come in as a conquering hero of sorts, or possibly just to bask in the media spotlight of speculation...imo...

Whatever.

I look forward to the day that he stands in front of a microphone and no one is there to listen. His 16 years of Packer quarterbacking have been "tarnished" (some like to speculate on such matters) to the degree that I am sick and tired of the man and his waffling aw-shucks, I don't know what I feel/am/am not going to do bullshit.

The only thing I really like about this is all the hand-wringing by the apologists and the Vikings fans that opted to support the move of Brett to their team.

Whoever made the decision to part ways with Brett Favre last year ought to get a friggin' medal and a raise.

Personally care less if he played or not.. but I have to admit, I am enjoying a little bit of the fallout in his flirtation with the Vikings.. he lingered it along enough to provide a distraction and maybe a ripple or two of division in the Vikings locker room.

Brett helped us again.. since his retirement he provided a 3rd round pick and a thorn in the side of a rival. Thanks Brett.

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed that the same posters that were ripping on Favre for thinking about coming back, are now ripping on him because he is staying retired. I think it's pretty simple the hate for the guy is obvious.

Exactly... if I am a Viking player or fan I am hanging my head a bit today..

A couple of reasons:

1) The Triangle of Power showed no backbone what so ever in this deal, Brett lead them along like a stripper after a C note..

2) They basically threw there group of QB's under the bus in the process.

3) They probably would still welcome him with open arms in a week or two.. why else would Brett continue to workout if the door was slammed shut as some speculate.

People can get all riled up over the Brett thing last year.. but at least have the ability to respect them for standing their ground once the decision was made. Otherwise we would be looking like the pushover instead of the Vikes front office.

Ok this was pretty good from of all people skip bayless on 1st take.

1) Did Favre call the Vikings and say he wanted to come back? No they contacted him

2) He told them last Monday he wasn't coming back and what did the Vikings do? They told him to rethink it and then had players call and send messages to him.

So this all falls on the Vikes.

Now to yours calling out our gm because they didn't go after players he wanted, why is that so bad? He was willing to take pay cuts for these players he was looking to improve the team.

Calling out Ted Thompson what was so wrong with it, he was destroying a winning team since he got here in his rebuilding.

Wanting to play for a rival, hell ya i would also because he was not wanted in Green Bay so i would have done the same thing.

The last part i will agree with but then again i got to the point where i could care less what he did.

Rich Eisen on Twitter minutes ago...

richeisen: What a day! Now Favre tells our Mariucci that he's going to keep throwing & wonders how he'll feel about his decision in the AM. Is it over?

Can people just please tell him politely to fuck off? I don't think anybody else in the world could get away with this shit.

"longtimefan" wrote:

you know what? If he comes back in a week or so and says he wants to try he will lose more fans..

I think he will "try"to come back before the season starts, but will the Vikings want him then?

"MassPackersFan" wrote:

Barring some major injury to Sage or T-Jack, anyone that thinks Favre will play for the Vikings is, well, just wrong. Chilly pretty much signed his own pink slip with this little episode, Ziggy's probably trying to figure out a way to sue the guy, and I imagine Jared Allen would cheap shot him in practice at this point.

That bridge is now well past burned, and I'll go ahead and call that a guarantee. He may play in 2009, but it won't be with the Vikings.

Oh, and before Hazer tells me I'm ripping Favre, my personal opinion on the matter is that he made the smart move, finally. I applaud him for actually thinking the matter through and realizing he just doesn't want to go through that grind anymore. Screwing the Vikings over is just icing on the cake for me - I'm very glad to see that he made the best decision for him.

I predicted months ago that he would not play. I believed then, as I believe now, that the affirmation he was still wanted was all he was really seeking. Having obtained that in spades, with all the ceaseless media coverage and blogosphere buzz, he is content to bask in the afterglow.

I refuse to believe someone who says he really wants to play but turns down $10 million and the chance to play with the premier running back and one of the elite defenses in the league. Not to mention only one cold-weather game the entire season. It doesn't compute and I'd feel naive for falling for such an obvious ploy.

The judge overseeing the Williams deal just dropped the case to allow them to start the season stating " what the hell, they can't win now anyhow."

In all seriousness if the Williams' don't get to start the season and with this happening it's going to be a very dicey first few weeks for the Vikes.

I don't see anyone "ripping" on Favre Hazer.
I think the posters (including you) have remained consistant throughout the whole mess.
I think ALL of us just wanted the guy to make up his mind, either way.
Oh.....and to stick with a decision. Honestly, i was at the point where I was hoping he WOULD play. It would have made for a heck of a story.
But at the same time, i'm glad (or at least i HOPE) it's over.
He's leaving still healthy, and a VERY rich man. His kids will never have to work a day in their lives if they don't want to.
He's got EVERYTHING. And since he's healthy, he can ENJOY it. How many 40 year olds can spend the rest of their lives doing what they want, with NO pressure on how to make next month's bills? If he wants to go hunting, hop on a plane to Alaska and GO. He can do whatever he wants.
Damn......the man is one blessed dude.

There's no sense in asking the question about whether this is it for Favre. He said he was finished 17 months ago in Green Bay, and he insisted he was finished five months ago after leaving the Jets. Even he knows his gut feeling can't be trusted right now.

"Very unlikely,'' he said. "I really believe this is it. I truly, truly believe it's over. But if someone calls Nov. 1, who knows?''

Nope....he's not kidding.
I do understand, he LOVES the game.
But he HATES the work it takes now to get a 40 year old body in shape for it. If he jumps on a chance to play later this season, he's setting himself up for a bad injury. I do NOT want that happening to him.
But i can see him signing on to play somewhere.
