I don't believe Thompson is truly on the hot seat, even if the Packers miss the playoffs, even if they have a losing season (which I truly do not foresee happening). With Rodgers' assumption of the starting role last season, the Thompson Era has only just now truly begun, and I think the board of directors is cognizant of that. I think the current administration has at least until next season before they'll feel any true pressure.

Time will tell.

I think McCarthy may be more on a hot seat than Thompson. Just for the fact that coaches usually get the axe before the GM does.

If one cuts through all the crap, throws out all the excuses,
bottom line is this is a very important year for Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy and the whole Packer organization.

Time to start winning more games than they lose.

The only thing that will change peoples minds are wins.
That is no big secret, it happens everywhere, winning solves all the so-called problems.

Can't wait for the season to begin, no more excuses then, you either have a winning organization or you don't.

Just my Humble opinion.

Unfortunately baring a six or fewer win season this year I think Thompson and McCarthy are safe after the season. The seat will then be hot next year no doubt. but I wouldn't get my hopes up about either getting let go if the team wins seven or eight games.

This thread will be re-visited by me. In January.

When The packers WIN THE SUPER BOWL.

It is all coming together baby, and life is good. Ted will soon have a street named after him in G.B.

While I probably agree that neither would be let go, I am almost certain that added pressure and urgency would be applied by the board and the fan base...

In other words patience will expire on the conservative approach if we don't produce this year..

Couple of notes...

1) I too am confident that the losing record or such will not be an issue.. I have faith in this team, the coaching staff and especially the added intensity that will be delivered on the defensive side of the ball.

2) Clarifying my "conservative" statement.. I think that if we struggle this season in consistency... there will be a emphasis on added veteran depth to areas where in the past couple of years we have relied solely on youth. In other words.. an addition like Carter or Holliday to the defensive line would be made verses a rookie from Joe Blow State that needs a year or two on the practice squad to refine his potential.

Again.. personally I think the only thing that can cripple our season is the question marks in depth at QB and the Defensive Line.. otherwise I see the talent level pretty static in other areas of the team.. static as in pretty well stocked with adequate depth. Maybe a concern or two at offensive tackle, but that is apparent even at the starting spot.. so not much drop off can happen is someone goes down that isn't named Clifton.

What bugs me about this issue is that many here seem to have forgotten that just the year before last we had a fantastic season.

The fruits of the labor of building a football team were paying off in that the talent level has gotten to a point we can play with anybody. Even though we came out on the short end of the stick way to often last year we had many pretty good football teams that went on to the playoffs by the tail.

The question I have for those that want Thompson gone is what do you want the next guy to do? Dismantle the football team? I don't and if that's not what you want either than the next guy is going to make minimal changes and probably no more than tweak a spot here and there.

IF, in fact, that's all anybody coming in here would do and the lions share of the roster is held in place what the hell are they replacing the guy who put that team together for in the first place?

My point is while last year was a downer for everybody it is not a team where talent wise or depth wise there are major concerns and the team has a lot of problems competing or having reasonable expectations that they can win against most of the teams on the schedule.

That's when you change your GM and until I see otherwise where our talent level is very questionable and we have nobody to step in for guys that get hurt and we don't have younger guys coming on every year to contribute more and help the team get better than I am for staying put.

I get a kick out of some here who say "well, I don't think it will happen but if we lose again he should be gone." Why do you THINK at this point we shouldn't see a year like last year? Is it because this is a pretty darn talented football team so positive expectations are reasonable here?

It seems awful convenient to me that while most everybody here can see there is talent on this team and the final 45 guys on opening day are going to be pretty dang good football players, HOWEVER, if it doesn't work out Thompsons stupid and needs to go.

1. Never did I say Ted Thompson should be gone, my point was there are fans out there that will continue to bash him and the organization unless they start winning again.

2. Calling anyone who endured the 70's on the edge of senility just shows the ignorance of youth.
I myself endured the 70's, The Packers sucked for the most part(1972 the only glimmer), the music really sucked(soft rock and disco!!!!), there were no pc's, no internet, but somehow we all survived!

Hmmm sounds like a country song in there somewhere. Kudos to Kid Rock he just got the wrong era.
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Warhawk, if there is enough talent on this team, and they are properly coached, they will win. So far Thompson's teams have lost more than they have won.

Four years, one winning season. IF, we have another losing season, that will be one winning season in five years. That's just not good enough. It seems there are a lot of fans that are more concerned with Thompson keeping his job, than they are winning football games.

It reminds me of when Favre would throw 4 picks in a game and fans would say, "Yeah, but his receivers ran the wrong way!" LOL

The question I have for those that want Thompson gone is what do you want the next guy to do?

Win. How difficult is that to understand?
