ESPN is asking NFL fans to vote on the single greatest player in their history. Above is the link to the Packers choices.

My last full night in Calgary before I fly back home to St. Petersburg. Although its not too late, I am very tired. I havent even voted myself, because I'd like to sleep on it.

Though I will say that at the moment I am torn between Favre and White. Blame my age if you must. Ill try to be more objective after I get some much needed sleep.

My question to you of course would be to ask whom you would choose from that list, but also, are there any players not listed whom deserves a mention?

Here is the list of choices they provide.

Willie Davis, DE (1961-69):
Holds the Packers' team record for most fumbles recovered with 21.

Brett Favre, QB (1992-2007):
Favre is the only three-time AP MVP in NFL history and holds seven NFL records.

Paul Hornung, RB (1957-66):
The No. 1 pick led the league in scoring for three straight seasons.

Don Hutson, WR (1935-45):
Packers all-time leading touchdown receptions leader with 99.

Ray Nitschke, LB (1958-72):
Anchored a disciplined defense that helped win five NFL titles and two Super Bowls.

Bart Starr, QB (1956-71):
Second behind Favre in franchise passing yards, touchdowns and completions.

Jim Taylor, FB (1958-66):
Franchise best career rushing yards, touchdowns and single-season touchdowns.

Reggie White, DE (1993-98):
Notched 68.5 sacks to become the Packers' all-time leader.

Willie Wood, DB (1960-71):
Finished career second in franchise history with 48 interceptions.

Herb Adderley, CB (1961-69):
Packers record-holder for most interceptions for touchdowns in a career with seven.

Ill try to give a better opinion tomorrow. Need sleep badly.

Cheers

I think its hard for people 40 years old or younger, to really give a vote on anyone other then Brett and Reggie

I NEVER seen any of those others play, I know about them and what they have done...

But can people give an opinion on who is better if they didnt see that person play?

I agree to an extent, although even without being alive to have seen them play, you can still know enough about someone to understand what they meant to us and the game.

If your grandfather or grand mother talked to you constantly about their "favorite player", even without seeing them play, they would probably hold a special place in your heart as well.

I did hope to get answers from the "older" or "experienced" crowd though. Theirs are the answers that tend to go outside the box and so will probably be the most fun to read.

Also to PackOne, great call on Lofton.

Yes and no. It certainly makes it harder to compare if you only saw one play on a regular basis. But then again you can see highlights and read/hear a lot about a player. For instance, I'm 19 but I voted for Don Hutson. I've seen some highlights, and I know he played both defensive back and wide receiver for us and was good at both. I also know he had 99 receiving touchdowns and led the league in scoring 8 times. If you compare that to the next best receiver in his era, he only had 33. And the second most anyone has ever led the league in scoring is 3 seasons. I don't think you can find another player in football, maybe any sport, that dominated his era as much as the Alabama Antelope did. He was also on 3 championship teams ('36, '39, '44). That, IMO, gives me enough to make an argument that he's the greatest Packer ever.

I saw all of these guys play with the excepyion of Don Hutson.
There is no question that Hutson was a great player who changed the game of football as it was known at that time and is certainly hard not to vote for.
It would be easy to give it to an offensive player, but my choice is Ray Nitschke who was the toughest SOB who ever wore a Packers uniform.
In my opinion he was the best MLB in NFL history.

For me.......Nitschke was always my favorite. Favre would be second for me. From there on, it would be hard not to put all the rest of them 3rd.
