I do feel blessed.......getting to see those guys play was very special. Nitschke was a monster on the field, but great to his fans off the field. I got to sit and talk with him, i believe it was arounf 1989-90. He was so nice, it would have been hard NOT to like him. He let me try on his Super Bowl one ring, and was just a blast to be able to talk Packers with him. I only wish i would have been smart enough to have a camera with me.

Oh, that would have been something. I was really bummed when he died. Nitschke lived the Packers. I regret not subscribing to the Packers Report instead of Pro Football Weekly now. PFW, I threw out. I would have kept my old Packers Reports.

We were blessed to have 2 of the GREATEST football players EVER to play in the NFL play for the Packers.

First and foremost, Reggie White. He literally defined what a football player is supposed to be like... He embodied the Famous phrase, "God, Family, and the Green Bay Packers"-Vince Lombardi

When he sacked Drew Bledsoe 3 straight plays in the 96 SUPERBOWL, that defined the football player that Reggie White was.

Don Hutson had to be the other Greatest player ever! He completely changed how the NFL played football. He took the LEAGUE from 3 yards and a cloud of dust to an aerial game it is today...
Kind of like Wilt Chamberlain did with the NBA only many years later.

Reggie had three sacks but not on consecutive plays. You might be thinking of his first season with the Packers when he sacked Elway on consecutive plays at the end to preserve a 3 point lead. He dominated the end of that game.

Don Hutson changed the game.. not many players come along and redefine the way coaches use concepts and schemes, albeit he might not be as much as an impact player in today's game.. during his era he was "that" player.

Why wasn't Tony Canadeo, the "Gray Ghost of Gonzaga", on that list? Can it really be a list of all time Packer greats without his name among them?

Never seen either of them play, of course, but Gramps used to talk about the Gray Ghost every time we talked about greats in Packer lore.. swore he was one of the best player he ever saw.. direct quote.. "Paul Hornung wasn't peanuts compared to the ghost."
"The oranges are dry; the apples are mealy; and the papayas... I don't know what's going on with the papayas!"

My vote goes for Curly Lambeau,if it wasn't for him none of us would have a team to root for.

That is truely a difficult question and one we are not actually equipped to answer. Vince said Forrest Gregg was the greatest player he ever coached. I put a lot of stock in Vince's opinion, yet where is Gregg on any lists? How about Gale Gillingham, in the new Packer Yearbook Ron Wolf says he may be the best GB ever had.

However, this is America and we're entitled to our opinions. I believe to so one has to study past players and eras and put things in perspective. Football changes and rules change. The offense has been given tremendeous advantages in our new era. Linemen able to use they're hands, 5 yard bump rule for receivers, Dlineman can't club to the helmet, etc.

After all that I say . . .

DON HUTSON

Tough Choice but I'd have to say Starr. He wasn't the flashiest QB but, as Herm Edwards said "You play the game to win". Starr did just that, 9-1 in the postseason, 5 championships.

When I was young I was sitting in my parents garage, playing with my Matchbox cars (loved those orange tracks, perfect weapon when your friends got unruly) and a van pulled into our driveway. Out pops Ray Nitschke, coming to meet with my dad about some GB public schools fundraiser. I was in awe.

I'm young too but from what I know I'd say Hutson because the way he dominated the game. Everyone takes fro granted that Rice is the best WR ever but if you compare his stats to the other WR's of his era he doesn't come close to dominating the way Hutson did. If you take into account everything a player has done for a franchise that brings Favre up there for me. (funny as I'm typing this I'm watching his first big game against the Bengals)

Before Favre and Reggie, when someone said "Green Bay Packers".....Nitschke and Starr were the names of players that came to mind. Now it's Favre and Reggie White. I guess before the sixties.....Fans were more into the team as a whole than what it has evolved into now-a-days, Individual Super-Star status...although the day had it's "outstanding performers".

In the years ahead....and it will come....the Packers will have household names that helped them win Championships ::wink: ...and their names will be trown into the mix.

There are TWO types of Football Fans,...Packers fans....and those who wish they could be a Packers Fan.

dfosterf (9h) : I read De'Vondre Campbell's tweet this morning (via the New York Post) Florio says that if he invested his earnings wisely, he will be good

dfosterf (20-Feb) : Hasn"t Bosa missed more games than he has played in the last 3 years?
Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : He hasn't been too bad when healthy but I don't feel like I ever heard much about when he is

Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : Joey seems so forgettable compared to his brother for some reason
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : NFL informed teams today that the 2025 salary cap will be roughly $277.5M-$281.5M

Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : It should be halted now.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : usually spambots are trying to get traffic to shady websites filled with spyware; the two links being spammed were to the Packers website
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : you know when you put it that way combined with the links it was spamming (to the official Packers website)
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yep. You can do that with holding down ENTER on a command in Console of browser
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : even with the rapid fire posts?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : I'm not certain it's a bot.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I've got to go to work soon which is a pity because I'm enthralled by this battle between the bot and Zero

Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : They got 118 slapped in there.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : that's why it confused the hell out of me
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yeah, but this is taking a headline and slapping it into the Packers Talk
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Wasnt there a time guests could post in the help forum?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : lol good question, kind of impressed!
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : So how is a guest posting?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Tell them its an emergency
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Working. Meetings.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Lots of fun; the spam goes back 4 or 5 pages by this point
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought you'd look for yourself and put 2 and 2 together lol. I overestimated ya ;)
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought Guests couldnt post?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : And gosh that's gonna be fun to clean up! hahaa
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Oh. Why not just say that then? Geez.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : check the main forum, seems a spam bot is running amok
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : What?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Is the Packers online game "Packers Predict" now available for 2024? I can't tell
Zero2Cool (17-Feb) : Bengals planning to Franchise Tag Tamaurice Higgins
Zero2Cool (14-Feb) : Packers are hiring Luke Getsy as senior offensive assistant.
Martha Careful (12-Feb) : I would love to have them both, esp. Crosby, but either might be too expensive.
Zero2Cool (12-Feb) : Keisean Nixon is trying to get Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams lol
Mucky Tundra (11-Feb) : Yeah where did it go?
packerfanoutwest (11-Feb) : or did you resctrict access to that topic?
packerfanoutwest (11-Feb) : why did you remove the Playoff topic?
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Tua’s old DC won a Super Bowl Year 1 with Tua’s former backup
