I resent the "apparent murder/suicide" description of the event in the absence of released evidence, mainly because the implication that the media wants us to draw is that McNair was the perpetrator. But given that he has multiple gunshot wounds to the head, that is absolutely impossible, as anyone with even a smidgen of forensic knowledge knows. The instant someone shoots himself, the body spasms violently, with the result that the weapon is thrown across the room. In open spaces, the weapon can be found incredible distances away; it's amazing how much pent-up energy human muscles store. Anyhow, this is how, when a body is found with a weapon in hand, investigators know immediately that the ostensible suicide has been staged.

If this really was a murder/suicide (and until further evidence is released, I'm skeptical), then the overwhelming likelihood is that the girl , not McNair, was the perpetrator.

But no one wants to think about that.

Maybe my perceptions are skewed by my irritation with the media lately, but that's how the story seems to be written to me. I don't think it actually implies that McNair did the deed; I just think that's the assumption the author wants us to make. It's more dramatic and captures the public imagination.

I highly doubt anyone is implying McNair shot himself multiple times in the head.

I agree with what was stated. If he was shot multiple times, it most likely wasn't self inflicted. IF it was murder/suicide (and thats IF) then it was the woman.
Again.........theres not enough facts to tell what happened yet. It's all just assumption based on what little info we have.

You guys are probably right. I've been on a bit of a personal vendetta against the media lately.

By the way, I still remain highly skeptical that this incident was staged by the girl in question. It just reeks of being a masculine crime, perhaps a crime of jealousy. To shoot someone multiple times in the head is an act of blind rage. According to the girl's ex-boyfriend, she was about to break up with McNair and get back with her ex. Unless he was physically abusing her, and there's no evidence of this, it would have made no sense for her to kill McNair this way. She'd have been more likely to kill him in a more personal and intimate way, like stabbing. Besides, women so rarely kill themselves with guns.

If I were a betting man, and I had to pick a woman as a likely perpetrator of this crime, my money would be on McNair's wife. The other obvious suspect is the ex-boyfriend himself -- maybe at the last moment the girl decided not to break up with McNair after all, and the ex freaked out. But that is obviously pure speculation, and I don't put much weight on either theory. I think a crazed fan or stalker is a more likely explanation. In my opinion, it's doubtful a purely random crime would involve multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Unless it was some sort of copycat of the Parkersburg shooting, which would be really bizarre.

Let a former criminal justice major simplify this for you. First don't give Steve any credit here ...he was having an affair with a 19 just turned 20 year old. That's playing with fire right out of the gate.
Second you will know today once they do forensics if she had gun powder residue from that handgun on her hands /fingers ..it's all over .
Add in an autopsy and they will wrap this case up no later then Monday.
No crazy conspiracy here just a love triangle gone bad.

I've read a few 'reports', and have only seen that McNair was shot multiple times, including in the head. Which means, there's one bullet in his head, and others around the rest of his body. But, I didn't read them all, so.. take that for what it's worth.

Also, keep in mind that the doors were locked when this happened. Steve's bodyguard had to unlock the door to get in the condo. To me, that's an 'inside' job.

Rest in peace. One of my favorite football players of all time. I remember the Christmas he was drafted in 1995 when I got my first pack of football cards at age 7. That one pack contained both a Steve McNair rookie and Warren Sapp rookie card. Sad, sad day for the NFL.

Great call on the gunpowder residue, 68MD -- I hadn't thought of that. Though if the shots were from pointblank range, they could both have GSR on their skin. And thanks to Formo for pointing out that there was only one shot to the head -- I had misread the sentence. (It was 2:30 in the morning.) As for the door being locked, I agree that it looks like an "inside job," but there are other possible explanations.

They haven't updated the article since the last time I read it, though, so I'm going to withhold judgment until the articles release more information. It drives me nuts when the public jumps to conclusions before the full story is known.

As for McNair taking a lover, unless his wife didn't know about it, I couldn't care less. Given that his wife hasn't come out with any sort of comment yet, I'm guessing she knew full well.

Yup. Like you said about MJ.. When are people going to stop making judgements in the court of opinion?

As far as his personal life goes.. I may disagree with it, fiercely... Taking of his life is obviously not the way to correct any wrong doing.
