Do you have anything to back that up? Not calling you out, but I'd be very interested in seeing that? Maybe your education system makes great minds blossom while ours is of a more socialistic nature? I don't know.

I'm pretty sure that country size has something to do with your nobel prize winners as well, though.

Don't get me wrong. I totally believe that you guys have earned way more nobel prizes. Nobel Prizes from before 1960 say very little about the current intelligence of a nation, though. And another point is that the Netherlands is a country with less citizens than the metro area of New York and between 3 and 4 times smaller than the state of Wisconsin.

What I was asking for is some proof that the US is kicking everyone's ass in this department. But I won't go on with it, I don't think it'll make me very well liked. Didn't mean to hi-jack this thread and, like I said before, I didn't mean to insult you guys with that video. I just thought it was pretty funny. Much like Vikes making of the Dutch.

Answers the question for the last election. :thumbleft:

Not knocking on you guys. I've seen enough over here to see that this is obviously not a representation of the intellectual level of the US. Still, it is pretty funny. And pretty much in line with your posts.

Don't want to hi-jack your post, just adding to it. Pretty good stuff.

Formo - Thanks for the Nobel Prize info. I had no idea the UK was in 2nd place. That surprised me.

Rockmolder - I had to do a little bit of research so I wasn't just talking out of my ***. As for population, we got 300 million. China and India have 1.1 billion and they hardly have any. Japan has 110 million, and the UK has 60 million. Germany's got 82 million and you guys have less than 17 million, which is impressive considering all you've invented in my lifetime.

Now back to inventions, this is personal opinion here, but my favorite inventions of the 20th and 21st century (in no order):
the electric guitar - Us
the synth - Us
the MP3 - Us and the Germans
the AK-47 (sorry fellow Americans, ours aren't as cool) - the Russians
Jet - Germans
Rocket - Germans
Birth Control Pill - Us
the CD - You guys and the Japanese (joint project)
the Microwave - Us
the LED - Us
the 3-point seat belt (saved my face, so I'm glad for its invention) - Us
Superglue - Us (I bet most people don't know this, but it's used to close wounds)
The internet - Us
Unix - Us
Solar power - Debatable, but us, the Japanese, and the Germans are at the forefront
The artificial kidney (as bad as a boxer I was, at one point I thought I was going to need one of these, and yes, in Thai boxing kidney shots are legal) - You guys
Radar - The Brits
Heavy Metal - the Brits

There ya go. Those are just recent inventions, but historically, you guys have the submarine and the telescope as well, but if I'm not mistaken, I think we were the first ones to use submarines in actual combat. Plus, of all the foreigners I worked with, you guys were the smartest (and most pleasant to work with as well).

I didn't think you where completely talking out of your ass. I put a lot of trust in your words. I just think that patriotism might blind one from time to time. That includes me, obviously.

Can't argue the facts that you put down there. Technologically, we're just a bit behind the US. However, what's important to the Japanese might not be that important to you. Take a Japanese toilet. They have their inventions, they're just slightly... awkward.

I get your point on the populations and Germany, the UK and Japan are pretty big as well for fully 'civilized' countrys. India and China are still, well, rudely said, crapholes. I wouldn't put a country like that in a discussion like this. Their educational system is nowhere close to that of western-Europe and the US, hence, they don't produce a lot of bright minds and what not.

I like the telescope, btw. A little further on though, Christiaan Huygens invented the pendulum clock. Something I'd be more proud of. Slightly unrelated, but just throwing it out there.

a) wipe your hand off with a napkin?

Of course you'll pick b. Same thing with after going poo poo. You're better off washing, and that's what Japanese toilets do. Same thing with a bidet.

The reason I put China and India in there is China used to lead the world in cool inventions a thousand years ago. Communism killed any ingenuity there. They kill people who don't conform. It's really sad. If you look at the list of Chinese inventions in the past, they may lead the world. They've also been to America long before white people have, with the exception of the Vikings. Yet another reason I'm so anti-communism. There are even arguments that the Italian explorers got their maps from the Chinese, as the Chinese already knew about the "New World."

Indians on the other hand are some of the most arrogant people you'll ever meet. It's one thing to be arrogant if you've actually done something. They haven't. And their culture has been around a thousand years before America was even a country, and they got almost 4 times the people.

I didn't list the pendulum clock because I thought it would be too geek even for me. I think it's a great invention, and was the most accurate clock until we had nuclear clocks (if I'm not mistaken).

Anyway, I agree. China was a leading force way back. Cutting yourself away from the rest of the world doesn't help either, though. Even as just a defense against mongolians. And, as you said, communism killed all the creativity and what not. There's no real drive to do anything to me in a communistic country. Even if you get perks for harder work.

Those Japanese toilets look great to me. Problem is, they're not catching on in the rest of western civilization. The Japanese just have an entirely different culture. I mean, they sell games where you have to undress school girls while some weird man with a leather mask is jacking off in the background. Not to say that all Japanese people are pervs, but they are just so culturary(?) different than Europe and the US.

Maybe people in India are so full of themselfs because they're pretty self sufficiant cultural-wise? I mean, they have their own music, they have Bollywood. For as far as they know, they're on of the leading country's in movies in movies and hit singles. Just speculation, of course. You studied this, I haven't.

Love your stories, btw. I'm quite into history. I might take a look if I can get it as a minor in college.

EDIT: Spelling-wise a trainwreck.

Rock - English is your 2nd language. So your spelling is pretty dang good, and it's better than a lot of folks that speak English as their first.

The reason they had to be so defensive of Mongolians is the level of violence the Mongolians did. Think of the Vikings. Barbaric? Very, but gentlemen compared to the Mongolians. I don't even want to describe what the Mongolians did to people because you don't need those images in your head. Let's just keep it as they made the Vikings look like gentlemen.

So it was out of self-defense they shut themselves off.

As for the Japanese, yes, they are very into sex. More power to them. I actually think America is way too prudish. You hear people complain about our porn and our porn is tame. I've seen Japanese, French, and German porn. American porn by comparison is practically g-rated.

But yeah, I think it takes an American to get a nasty case of Hemorrhoids before they realize our toilets suck and maybe they should consider a bidet. Japanese toilets unfortunately aren't available in this country, so a bidet is the closest thing we got here to them.
