i think, sterling sharpe got injured in the game, it may have been one of his last.

This was before I knew anything about computers (so that means I knew nothing of the internet) and couldn't afford Pro Football Weekly, so I didn't know Sharpe was injured until '95 when he was no longer playing football. He was my favorite player at the time too. But you just don't get Packers news in San Francisco.

I said it before and I'll say it again - had Sharpe not been injured, Favre would have retired a Packer with 3 rings instead of one and Sharpe would have threatened or broken half of Rice's records. He was that good.

Hey, I like Brooks and Freeman both. But Sharpe was the best WR in the NFL at the time. Brooks and Freeman were good WRs, don't get me wrong, but not elite.

Having an elite WR makes your job easier. Imagine having a Randy Moss, a TO, or a Fitzgerald to throw to. Your completion percentage will go up. Your TDs will go up. And your INTs will go down. Your 2nd WR will be loving it too because he'll find one on one coverages all day long.

Yea, Sharpe was awesome. Rice was the best but Sharpe was better than Chris Carter, Herman Moore, and all the rest back then. I remember one play where Favre threw to him by the sideline and he immediately got blasted, shook it off and ran into the endzone. I'd never seen anything like it.

And having no internet sucked being a packer fan back then until i subscribed to the Packers Gazette(i think thats what it was called)

Yeah, tough call. I like Rice, don't get me wrong, but Sharpe was tougher. But both had noses for the end zone and will reach it one way or another. Sharpe's injury prevented him from reaching his full potential. We will never know just how good Sharpe would have been.

It's like Gale Sayers. My father swears up and down Sayers was the best RB he's ever seen, but we'll never know because the first knee injury slowed him down and the 2nd knee injury finished his career.

I wish I had the Packers Gazette, but I was broke back then.

Agreed.

And like I said before, if you had Sterling Sharpe to throw to, you'll throw most of your passes in his direction too. If the ball was between Sharpe and a DB, Sharpe's gonna get it and there wasn't much a DB could do other than cry. Sharpe was just that tough and that quick. Like Rice, he wasn't fast on paper, but he was "football quick," which is more important anyways.

This pains me to say because Sharpe was my first favorite WR. With that said, Brett wouldn't have been the Brett we knew if Sharpe was healthy. Sharpe was too talented to just not throw the ball his way everytime. I forget which book of Brett's it was, but he said himself that at times he'd jus throw it up to Sharpes side of the field if he was in trouble. He had tunnel vision.

I love Sharpe, I had a hard time believing he was done. I kept hoping he'd come running onto the field for us. Like a WWF wrestler back in the day would come running out to save the day. I expected Sharpe to do the same.

Favre to Sharpe ... my favorite WR catching balls from one of my two favorite players of all time ... it was heaven.

I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for saying this, but the closest thing Favre had to Sharpe was Javon Walker. Yes, you're seeing a shell of a man he once was today, so don't even bother comparing them. But Walker appeared before that first injury that he had elite talent. It's a shame how it all turned out.

There is nothing like having an elite WR. You can't blame the QB for having tunnel vision. Imagine lining up there and you got a Randy Moss or a Larry Fitzgerald to throw to. No ****, you're going to look at them when you get in trouble and probably toss it in their direction. Seriously, can you blame them. Heck, Moss looked old what's his name, that one Vikings QB who made that stupid arm rolling thingie whenever the Vikings scored, look good.

Maybe Favre is cursed when it comes to receivers. Chmura was also a good receiver (Favre loves TEs as we all know) but he ended up molesting someone. Urgh!
