I don't think that we should have to high hopes for this guy. he went undrafted and he's been around two practice squads so far. That usually doesn't bode well.

If he does surprise everyone and will become a decent to good NT, the better it is for us. I think he'll be more of an insurance player though. Maybe keep him burried down the depth chart, let him play ST and let him go in if both Pickett and Raji go down.

Tramon Williams and Atari Bigby are a few guys who went undrafted and turn out alright :)

But I agree, lets not get too excited for this guy, I doubt he makes the roster.

I agree with you that there's a chance that these guys make it. Realistically, it's a very small one though.

Also, and here's the big problem, I said that he's been on two practice squad and/or off-season squads only. Usually they've seen enough after one year to either give you a roster spot or cut you.

Of course there's always the chance that he'll still turn out great, but I think it's a really, really slim one.

I agree, plus I doubt we have enough room for three NT anyway. We already have Pickett, Raji, and Jolly could play if needed. Need to keep a bunch of spots open for other positions.

Yeah it is very unlikely they will keep more than 6 on the dline

Jenkins
Picket
Raji

Are locks to make the team

Jolly
Harrel

Are very likely to make the team, bearing something bad happening(jail time, more injuries, respectively).

So that leaves one spot potentially, they may even just go with 5. And i think Wynn who they drafted would be the leading candidate to make up that 6th spot, just because he was drafted etc and Thompson has a tendancy to hold onto his draft picks for a year or two(even high round picks).

Alfred Malone
Michael Montgomery
Dean Muhtadi
Brian Soi
Ronald Talley
Anthony Toribio
Jarius Wynn

All of these guys are pretty much competing for one spot as it is now. But you never know, a couple of them may really surprise and pick up the defense better than some of the veterans, but i think thats pretty unlikely.

Honestly i see a couple of these guys ending up on PS as insurance for harrel/jolly.

Here is the current dline roster from packers.com

DE 91 Justin Harrell 6-4 320 25 3 Tennessee D1-07
DE 77 Cullen Jenkins 6-2 305 28 6 Central Michigan FA-04

DE 98 Alfred Malone 6-4 312 27 1 Troy FA-07
DE 96 Michael Montgomery 6-5 273 25 5 Texas A&M D6a-05
NT/DE 64 Dean Muhtadi 6-3 295 22 R Maryland FA-09
NT 79 Ryan Pickett 6-2 330 29 9 Ohio State UFA-06 (StL)
NT 90 B.J. Raji 6-2 337 22 R Boston College D1a-09

I cant find out anything about him. I know he played for Utah State, born in Honolulu, Hawaii, was cut by Miami in 07, Giants in 08, and now he landed here in Green Bay.

That's about all I can find too. Personally I like

NT/DE DEAN MUHTADI #64
6' 3" 295 lbs. Maryland

The guy is very raw but strong and quick. Also he doesn't stop until the whistle. I know a lot of people expect players not to quit on plays unto the whistle but most players don't go 100% every single play even when the ball isn't near them. Muhtadi doesn't stop going hard because the ball isn't near him. He gives full effort.

Also to top it all off he's smart getting awarded for the best GPA for a Maryland football player.

Don't be so sure. This is the year for DT's, in the sense that they almost invariably need a couple of years to get on the "right page".

We have had a hint that this guy might not suck, too. They dropped -what was his name- Fred Bledsoe like a bad habit, and he looked like a prototypical NT on paper...

Soi has gone from 295 to his current weight. It looks like good weight, too...

He just might favorably surprise us. We could use several of those, imo.

Would we only keep six?

If we did they better keep a few on the PS for insurance.

Funny thing is he only has about 20 lbs on me.. and I have an inch on him in height.. but I have over 15 years of "experience" on in age.. lol.

Big boy...

Well last year in the 4-3, with an extra position on the DLine they kept what, 9? The year before 10 and that was higher than average. So 6, or 7 at the very max for a 3-4. They'll keep something like 8-10 LB's tho.

qb 3
rb 3
fb 2
wr 5
te 3
oline 9
dline 7
lb 9
cb 5
s 4
ST 3

Doing the math there i could see them taking 7 on the Dline, but no more.

Yeah I really hope they keep 7 DL no less.... I mean injures to the DL is what killed the 07 and 08 seasons.

And with Jenkins coming off injury, Harrell problem with injuries, Jolly legal problems. Plus Pickett has gotten banged up the last two season and needed brakes and Raji wasn't in the best conditioning in college.... so I hope they keep as many DL as they smartly can.

TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
