The Green Bay Packers have signed free agent nose tackle Brian Soi. The signing was announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Soi, a 6-foot-3, 334-pound first-year player from Utah State, signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2007 with the Miami Dolphins and was released prior to the regular season. He also spent time with the New York Giants during the 2008 offseason.

Soi will wear No. 62.

I wonder if this means they are confident enough in Pickett that they aren't planning to take Raji

^^^^^^

i was thinking the same thing, or maybe they're just trying to add much needed depth, maybe take raji and PS Soi later? who knows, i hate talking draft, too many scenarios...

This does put a damper on my hopes for a trade though. Trading for a guy like Kemoeatu seemed like a plausible thing to me, seeing that the Panthers are in cap hell and we need another NT.

I guess they where both undrafted FAs though, so we'll see where this ends up.

Ted Thompson can't predict if Raji will be there at #9. He's picking up body's to see who might stick. I don't guess signing Soi means much if he doesn't ultimately make the team.

I doubt it has anything to do with the decision they would have if Raji is available when they pick. I cannot see them passing on him if he's there but who knows. I just look at the other really good 3-4 teams and they invested #1 picks on NT's. I'm sure these guys are well aware of it.
