Thanks guys your getting my hopes up now 🙂

Packz I think it will get done because it would hurt the NFL. If it gets done then i really don't see Jennings sign the extension why would he take less money. Ted Thompson has already proven he won't spend the huge money.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Like everyone of the Ted Thompson backers have said. We got Rodgers for cheap so i'm going by what they say. I was against giving him that kind of money until he proved he could play and i don't mean 8 games, hell i wouldn't have even signed him at the end of the year. Maybe i would of tried to sign him during this year if he could play at the same level.

I have always been against signing a guy to a huge contract after one good year.

I'm thinking I'm the smartass so here's a couple of things I can tell you.

First off, I did not mention a single thing about contracts being signed, I'm taking Jenning's at his word that he wants to stay in GB. (Nice dig at Rodgers "jumping" all over the money)

If any one of the players you mentioned renegotiates his contract the team can front load as much as they want into this years salary cap, been that way for years. Don't know the exact date that the cap has to be finalized but we have certainly not reached it yet.

All of the rookie and UDFA contracts come out of this season's cap.

And, God forbid, Ted Thompson may yet sign some free agents that become cap casualties on other teams, lots o' time left.

I don't love TT, but he ain't bad at his job so I give him the benefit of the doubt.

And Thompson doesn't manage the salary cap, Russ Ball does.

Grants contract was incentive based and we over paid for that also. Another one year wonder.

The we got Rodgers cheap talk is because, the longer we waited, the higher his price would go, just by the natural increase in salaries. And that the way his contract was worked out, left us with better cap space for future years.

As for getting him done last year. I dont' think it was originally the goal, Jennings was, but when that didn't work, Rodgers was the best option because he was really the only other player at that time that would be able to chew up that cap space last year.

I find it ironic that we still debate this all like Ted is the only component to the process.

Forget the staff that has responsibilities and duties, much like the only talent evaluator on the staff is Ted himself.

Oh and if we won't have reworked Grant and Rodgers deals last year, our cap number won't be 29 million and we would probably have a pressing issue of getting Rodgers done now..

The orchestration of building and maintaining a team has to have a pretty rigid plan in place, yet have the flexibility of adjusting for injuries, performance declines and sudden player retirements. While it seems pretty straight forward, the moving dynamics have to be pretty intense.

Not to mention picking up almost every form of communication and seeing people calling for your head. 😉

You hit something on the head if it's true i have no clue but you said the first goal was signing Jennings, but that didn't work. So if the season starts without him signed do you think he would sign in the middle of the season. I was just thinking if he could become a FA maybe the thought of playing in Detroit could be on his mind.

Damn that would be scary Jennings and Johnson and Pettigrew with Stafford throwing the ball for alot of years to come.

It's almost funny. We have Rodger's signed and accounted for cap-wise and still have 29.5 mil in available cap room.

Yet we signed him too early. No matter the many millions of bucks his cap hit went down this year...down, not up...no matter the dramatic increases in the costs of a QB, especially when putting up those kinds of #'s.

No matter that Rodger's base salary is under 680k, with the huge majority of the remainder being incentive based ...he has to earn it folks...

None of this matters. It was a bad move.

Sure.
