Hey, AROD may be a good QB someday.

Right now, we really don't know that, STILL!

(That's the whole point, isn't it? Gambling on the unknown?)

I thought Ted was supposed to be conservative?

I hate to break it to you, but the kid's good now. No, he's not Brett Favre good, and there's a good chance he never will be - you only get one best QB ever, every couple-three generations or so.

So what's our crime? Because we happen to see some validity to moving forward with the new guy, even though 98% of us would have loved to see Favre end his career w/ the Packers, and because we're choosing to back the new guy? Is this what makes us so awful?

What went down went down, and nobody on this site knows the entire truth about it. The one thing we do know is that it went down and Brett Favre no longer plays for the Green Bay Packers. So we're left with a few choices, as fans:

1. Scream, wail, and generally throw an internet tantrum about it. Join sites like FireTedThompson.com. None of which will change anything.

2. Decide that the whole thing is reason enough to find another team to root for. I mean, if I can't live w/ Thompson as a GM, what else do I do?

3. Realize that all the crap that went down is water under the bridge, continue to cheer for our favorite football team, and try to find things to enjoy about said team - things like one of the more promising young WRs in the league, a good young QB, and a young improving defense. None of those has a damn thing to do w/ Favre, so are we 'hating' on him?

I chose option 3. Anyone choosing another option is welcome to do so - all are valid.

I hate Ted Thompson and i will always say that. I don't agree with how he runs a team. I hated him from his 1st year in Green Bay and probably always will. He spends money like its his own and that just pisses me off. If you try and say i hate Ted Thompson cuz of the circus with Brett you edit ###alternative needed dfoster--I have been a proud Ted Thompson hater from day 1. I was banned from another forum because of it and i was drawn here because Zero said i can speak my mind on it (boy i bet he regrets it now lol)

Btw what the hell is this thread about lol

Well, what did you want him to do BUILD a QB out of metal?

Look, Brett Favre wasn't going to be around forever and right now this team is in better shape for ARod because transition in this league is a reality.

The reality of it is this transition could be a whole lot more difficult than it has been for us. See Chicago. See San Francisco. See Detroit. See the Vikings. It aint easy to come up with a solid QB in this league.

So you know what? It don't matter how good Brett Favre WAS for us at this point. What matters is what we have to go on with from here and we have a solid, young, QB to move forward with. You want to nitpic over two int's and somehow that should get me to take a double take on what I saw last year?

McCarthy has had to deal with nothing but transition since he's been here and THAT was inevitable as well since Sherman wasn't bringing up young talent to replace the old guys when it was their time. MS couldn't pull it off when he HAD one of the most unchanging environments over five years any coach could have been blessed with. Can you imagine what he would have done with the youngest team in the NFL and no security blanket around him?

I mean, you do realize if you make next to no changes over an extended period of time in this league it means BIG changes at some point, right?

I know Brett Favre was good in '07 and I know he was the guy that got us to the Title Game but there's also more to it than that. Brett Favre was running MIKE MCCARTHY'S OFFENSE. How hard is it to see that Brett Favre was better off for Mike McCarthy and how he wanted the offense run and obviously too, the Packers were better off that Brett bought into it and ran it as well as he did?

Mike Sherman couldn't get that kind of production out of him when he had one of the most veteran teams in the NFL around Favre.

I don't know what the hell the problem is around here anyhow.

Brett Favre was good. Brett Favre is gone.
Arod is here now and looks highly capable.
Mike McCarthy managed both guys about as well as you could ask shaping a perfect offense for Brett and grooming Arod and when it was his time he was certainly no deer in headlights. He's ready.

I really just don't understand what some people find to bitch about.

"TheOldMan" wrote:

Brett Favre could have been here for two more years, and so could AROD, if Thompson could have just dealt with the situation like a grown up instead of hiding out on vacation.

This is what ticks me off so much. We could still have Brett and AROD, then the transition would have been alot smoother, but I really think that Ted wanted Brett gone, and when he had the opportunity to cut him loose, he took it.

Do you honestly believe that Ted Thompson made the decision based on his own wants and was able to cut Favre loose regardless of what the rest of the organization thought? That they didn't meet and discuss this at all? That it wasn't a decision made by the organization, weighing all the facts? That Thompson has that kind of unchecked power?

Simply because we don't live in Bizarro World, I can guarantee that the decision to move on without Brett Favre was carefully weighed and calculated by a number of people.

While I completely agree that Thompson makes the final roster calls on a normal basis, you know a decision of that importance to the financial and fan base health of the franchise was discussed by the board and Mark Murphy.

In fact, I believe it was reported upon during the divorce last year. The Board and Murphy sided with the decision that was made..

Face it.. there is more to this story than has been released in public.. why one has to assume upon. But there is no doubt that there is more under the surface of this decision.

It was time for the transition. Brett was not what he was in the past and keeping Arod on the bench puts him back from getting the first year behind him.

It holds the team hostage from moving forward with the new guy at the helm. How could ARod sitting out '08 possibly help the Packers in '10, '11 and beyond that? It couldn't.

From what I saw last year when his body started failing in the last six games is EXACTLY why you could not put your future on hold. It's not he wasnt' good enough but that when hurt he couldn't do it anymore.

Brett Favre playing well with injury or hoping he doesn't get hurt at this stage is foolhardy and that proved itself so last year.

Well, I respect your opinion warhawk, but I just disagree, I guess.

It would be the ultimate "I told you so" for Brett Favre if he signed with the Vikings and took them to the Superbowl, however.

hey VR. welcome home! Do you want Favre to sign with the vikings? packerchatters says he's gonna have surgery then sign on. I have been saying that he'd sign with them ever since the day the jets released him, so i think it's gonna happen. I am afraid that he'll beat us. I am equally afraid that he won't, and he'll look like a fool. I don't want that.
