Thompson's philosophy, and it's followed by other salary-cap savvy teams like the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers

you know your always telling people to find proof to back their ideas why dont you start doing that LTF? The Pats get big name players, we don't. My proof is the likes Harrison, Seau, Thomas and they make trades like Moss, and Welker and they also do alot of trading up.

Zero look at the Pats super bowl seasons and how many were Free agents. I think i did it once and out of the 53 players 27 were free agents. They had a good mix of all the stuff together. As i have stated before you cannot in this day and age build a team strictly through the draft. By the time your draft picks get used to the nfl they are becoming free agents. Perfect example look at the Packers the guys that show some they can play are now becoming free agents and does that mean Ted Thompson let's them walk like the article says?

I have and well I don't recall a whole lot of HUGE name free agents. And were they huge at that time or did they become huge later? Example, if we win the SB this year, six years down the line and you look back at our roster. You see Bigby was a FA and at this future time he has racked up four Pro Bowls and is top 3 safety. Does that mean he was a huge name pickup? No.

Same thing can be said about James Harrison. He was I think cut three times or something. Now he's a star.

We're not building strictly through the draft. Please, follow the Packers transactions a little bit here bud lol

Maybe the Patriots suck at drafting.

Maybe we don't all have to sit at the cool kid's table at lunch.

Maybe we will be better than the Steelers this year.

I don't think anyone wanted Seau man lol and he was at the end of the rope.

You're missing the point I think. The Patriots didn't do a lot of big name FA signings to get their rings. They developed from within and once they had a solid core, thats when they started splurging. In fact I believe the year they landed Moss was their first year really hitting it hard.

Think of it like this. You wouldn't spend 4,000 on tires for a rusty car would you? No.

The Packers ARE emulating how the Steelers and Patriots built their teams. Are we at their point? Hell no. But they didn't get there over night either.

Parcells help build the Patriots, then Bellichek took over and used his methods to build a helluva powerful team.

Cohwer was with the Steelers for a long ass time before they went to a Super Bowl and lost, then went to another an won. Tomlin is a good coach, but I think he fairy tailed off Cowhers work.

Let's keep things in perspective here.

Thanks for reading this thread you big jerk! :P

edit, look at how those teams were built... look at how we are doing it. It's not a coincidence that others are saying we are going about it similar to the Patriots and Steelers. The difference is they've got years head start. Patriots regime had two or three Super Bowls by the time Ted took the Packers over. Steelers had a Super Bowl under their belt as well.

Does this make sense to you? I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm honestly asking. Because I'm willing to do some leg work to help you understand this point. Because I think your comments are valid, but are out of context due to WHEN each regime started their plan.

Harrison was originally drafted in fifth round of the 1994 draft (145th overall) by the San Diego Chargers, the same year they made their first and only Super Bowl (Super Bowl XXIX). They lost to the San Francisco 49ers. Before the draft Harrison had run a 4.82 second 40 yard dash. He became a starting member of their 1997 defense. He went to two Pro Bowls with the Chargers in 1998 and 2001.

lol you can not deny that our roster from 1 to 53 has been steadily improving. Is it going at a pace you and I want? No, we want Super Bowl NOW! It just doesn't work that way. It takes a lot of luck for that to happen and great moves. Ted doesn't make a lot of risky moves so its hard to bank on big risks when you're not taking many. I've said it in the past and will again. I'd like for him to take a few more risks, ie spending a little more than he's worth on Chris Canty for example.
