True. But in fairness, look how fast our own fanbase can turn like a python on MLF.
For example, it's announced that he is interviewing Brandon Staley for DC.

Interviewing, not hiring, mind you.

1 second before reading about that, I'm convinced he is one of the great minds in football. 1 second after reading that, I'm like, "... what the f--- is this idiot doing interviewing that pos, he has failed to hire... yada yada yada
All quite unfair, and certainly not alone in being unfair.

Staley, I think was more so to let the NFL know he's interested and because of their previous working relationship. I really don't think Staley is in line for the DC job.

I think a lot depends on how LaFleur feels about the Vic Fangio system now, 3 years ago he loved it, and if he still loves it, I think Staley very much is still a serious candidate, as Staley ran it great while with the Rams, and I don't think the Packers have a system problem, but a play caller problem, and some of the finer details problem.

Plus they doubled down last year bringing in so many one gap under sized DTs, that are better suited for the Vic Fangio scheme.

Houston's DeMeco Ryans
Detroit's Dan Campbell
San Francisco's Kyle Shanahan
Baltimore's John Harbaugh
Cleveland's Kevin Stefanski

But not kicking the FG with 7:00 left in the game on 4th & 1 was momentum shifting game changing, meat-headed decision. They could have gone up 17 and killed the small amount of momentum SF had built.

Remarkably dumb.

You don't change your identity when you're 4 quarters away from the Super Bowl. (I read Ravens averaged like 28-30 rush attempts a game, and vs Chiefs ran it six times? That true? my gosh)

Besides, I saw quite a few Tweeter's bemoaning the Packers for kicking FG's in red zone and going for it on 4th down. You can't win with crybabies.
When Packers kicked the FG's the loud cry was "you won't beat 49ers with FG's, need TD's".
When the Packers tried on that 4th and 1 and failed, "should have taken the points".
When Carlson missed 41 yard FG, "Packers lost because of kicker".

I will say this though. You are onto something about momentum. Do you want to gently put a foot on the throat, or stomp on the throat? Or in Matt LaFleur terms, do you want hot piss or mild piss. Do you wanna be all gas no brakes, or some gas, some brakes.

I would say for me it's more about the play call that matters more to me than going for it. If it's 4th and 1 on the 7 yard line and you do a Jet Sweep, slap yourself silly. Same scenario, but you do a QB rollout with a TE leak or RB in flat, I'm good with that. But if you're gonna run a dumbass play, just kick take the FG attempt.

Only a fool does not recognize his mistakes, and just because he did something all year, does not make it right. His unwise decisions really aided the Packers on Thanksgiving day.

Let's face it, he let is balls do the thinking for his brains. You need to balance risk taking with Chutzpah to be successful in football.

I would say for me it's more about the play call that matters more to me than going for it. .

The first decision has to be whether to go for it. That, in and of itself is the most important decision, irrespective of the play call. Good results don't make a bad decision a good one....results don't equal right.

Choice 1 go up 3 scores with a high percentage field goal
Choice 2 go up 3 scores with a mid range percentage touchdown drive (even IF you make it on 4th down)
Choice 3 give them momentum and be up only 2 scores

Its an easy choice.

For Ryans, a one year turn around of the Texans (though they are in a weak division) but people were talking about them having a top 5 pick for another year.

For Stefanski, Browns made the playoffs despite losing their star RB, star QB, I think backup QB, and getting Joe Flacco off the streets to have a 4-1 record.
