Alright, it's been over 24 hours since the loss and the divisional round is over. Time to stop with the moping bullshit and look to next season. To paraphrase Bill Belichick, "We're on to the Draft." With the Bills losing to the Chiefs, our 1st-3rd round picks are locked in.

In addition, Over the Cap projects  the Packers with 3 comp picks, one each in the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds.

Going off of this, GB will have a whopping 11 picks. With four Day 2 picks and six Day 3 picks, GB will have lots of picks to address holes on the roster which begs the question, "what positions does GB need to address?"

Defense
1. Safety: with only Johnson Jr signed through next season, the safety room could see a total makeover. Savage despite flashes hasnt lived up to his 1st round draft status. Ford quietly had a quality season that should merit discussion of bringing him back but the salary cap might complicate this.
2. Corner Back: At this point, GB should operate under the assumption that Stokes will not return to rookie form. It sucks for Stokes but beyond Alexander this group was wanting this season. Valentine was a nice find in the 7th but teams were able to target him during the season. Adding a high end body to the room couldn't hurt.
3. Dline: Gutey struck gold with Brooks in the 6th last year and Slaton provided solid run defense. After that things get murky. After a solid camp Wooden faded away during the season. Wyatt generated loads of pressures on pass defense and penetration on run defense but failed to finish often. Lastly, Clark's contract ends after the 2024 season. At age 28, GB might extend Clark to keep him around and to provide instant cap relief but Gute might look for a replacement this year.
4. ILB: Quay matured this year mentally but his game didn't take a large leap forward (though under a possible new defensive coordinator there's enough to give hope he can). After a dark horse All Pro year in 2021, Campbell hasnt lived up to his contract. McDuffie plays with his hair on fire and is a solid complementary piece while Wilson is a ST ace. Moving from Campbell and adding a 1-2 year athletic project might be a move.
5. Edge: a position that the team has invested heavily in recent years. Gary isnt going anywhere while Van Ness looked like he was beginning to find his feet at the end of the year. Despite getting up in age Preston played well enough that the team might need to pause on moving on from him in the off season. Enagbare provided solid rotation+ST snaps before suffering a late post season injury in Dallas while Cox remains a tantalizing prospect. This position could go up in priority if Preston is cut and/or they think Enagbares injury will be a slow recovery.

Offense:
1. QB....I kid I kid!
1. Interior offensive line: I'm cheating here by lumping together the OG and C positions. Jenkins, after a sluggish start, started to look like his preinjury self. On the other hand, Runyans contract is up, Newman has underwhelmed after a solid rookie season and inconsistency from Myers, this area could use an injection of talent. Does the team believe that Rhyan can take a step and become the starting RG? If so than drafting a C high could happen. If not, Myers might stick around with a new RG.
2. RB: Dillons contract is up and he's been a disappointment after a solid 2021 season and Jones is almost a dinosaur in RB years but still played at an elite level when healthy. Jones has a decent cap hit but could be back. If so, GB needs to draft a complementary piece. Jones works best when given 15-18 touches a game with another back that can give 10-12 quality carries. Behind Jones and Dillon are Taylor and Wilson, two players that have some nice traits but not something to lean on.
3. A TE that can play the H-Back role: GB has seemingly found a lethal combo in Musgrave and Kraft and a intriguing piece in Sims. What the team lacks is a mauling blocker that can lineup in the backfield. Its not a coincidence that the team played better once Deguara saw his snaps cut in favor of Kraft. Rodgers repeatedly scourned him his last two years here, the coaching staff lost faith in him this year and Love, who often looked his way in previous playing time in 2021 and 2022, rarely gave him targets this year. Throw in hit and miss blocking and Deguaras spot is in jeopardy.
4. OT: After Bakhtiari went down with an injury, Walker was immediately plugged in after a solid preseason. Walker struggled to the point that he split snaps with Nijman. However, Walker upped his game and looked like a legitimate OT guarding the blindside. On the other side, ZT was the most consistent player on the offensive line and played at an All-Pro level at RT. The two took some lumps vs San Fransisco but as 2nd year players there's still room to grow. This combined eith the team potentially moving on from Bakhtiari and Nijman, there is a need for a swing OT.
5. WR: After the cupboard being bare at the beginning of last year, this unit saw a dramatic turnaround this year. Despite injuries Watson proved to be an electric weapon that can wreck havoc and demand attention from a defense. Doubs proved solid route running, steady hands and a red zone targets. Rookies Reed and Wicks came on like gangbusters. Reed for his ability to line up anywhere and make plays while Wicks repeatedly beat opposing DBs at the line to create separation. Heath relished his spot as a goon/blocking WR and Melton proved to be a nice downfield target. That said, if a talented WR is at the top of the board in the 2nd or 3rd round, Gute shouldn't be afraid to pull the trigger especially to fortify the position against Watsons hamstring issues.

What say you?

Best "playmaker" on the defensive side of the ball at 25, and best o-tackle left at 41. Playmaker can be a pass rusher or a big time ball skills db or whatever. Think turnovers and sacks.

Your needs in April won't necessarily be your needs come December.

Draft best players.

For me personally, I find more value in top X lists than the bogus mock draft stuff. But if you do a mock, please, no DB. Lol

Agreed on draft the best guys. GB could bring back Ford and Savage and if a S is there at the top of their first round guys when they pick, take him! It wouldn't surprise me if Gute picks a dlineman or a C in the first. It wouldn't surprise me if he picked a OG and then a RB with the first two picks. It wouldn't surprise me if Gute drafted a WR, TE or a Edge guy in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

I dont know enough about college ball to do mock drafts haha. I just tried to look at immediate needs crossed with expiring contracts this year and the immediate future when typing this up.

Great analysis!!!

I dont think it would take much to bring him back and assume the team will do so.

At TE, I think the team sorely missed Marcedes Lewis and his physicality on the field. You're not going to find a TE that can win 1 on 1 against dlineman and ragdoll LBs like Lewis can in the draft. So get the next best thing in day 3 blocking TE that can combo block at the line, get up to the next level a vs LBs, line up as a FB in the backfield and just wants to hit people. While he probably wont be as stout as Lewis, he'll be faster in open space to pancake DBs.

Also, totally forgot that Deguaras contract is up.

packerfanoutwest (16h) : Feliz Navidad!
Zero2Cool (21h) : Merry Christmas!
beast (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (24-Dec) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
