For months following the trade of Rodgers to the Jets, fans in particular have been quick to criticize the move claiming that when Rodgers took over in 2008, everyone knew what they had in him. They recall players in the locker room praising the up-and-coming Rodgers to quell concerns of the fans.

Pete Dougherty, however, does not remember the media being as hyped or quick to praise Rodgers as they are towards Love now. Heller asked him to compare the amount of buzz surrounding Love now to the things the media was saying about Rodgers when he took over for Favre. Dougherty responded:

“I don’t remember ever feeling that way [that Rodgers was lighting it up in camp]. I wouldn’t say great, but I always ask other reporters what they think. I don’t remember anyone ever saying through camp of ’08, ‘Yeah, I think this guy is going to be really, really good.’ I don’t remember anyone saying that.

“The only thing I remember is by halfway through the season, when they extended Rodgers’ contract, I think it was after seven or eight games, I remember thinking, ‘Yeah, if I were them, I would do this too. I think he’s been pretty good; he’s going to be a real starter in this league.’

“But even then, I never would have predicted Hall of Fame for him.”

This fits what I remember and why I've been commenting on YouTube videos with these clowns talking as if everyone knew Aaron Rodgers would become good/great/elite. Because they didn't. If there was such great confidence and such great comments being espoused about Rodgers, there would have been far less outcry of the Packers trading away Brett Favre. The (some) fans went ballistic in their anger towards Rodgers, even though he did NOTHING wrong.

It's just annoying hearing these pundits, even some of the local ones, talk like it was OBVIOUS Rodgers was going to be good just by what we saw in training camp and preseason. And then add in the Cowboys performance. And with that, they add there must be somethign wrong with Jordan Love because they "aren't hearing the same hype about Love as we did with Rodgers". It wasn't until several games into the season where we all kind of went ohh ... we might have a good one here. And then during the 2009 seaosn it was 'yeah we struck gold'.

I don't remember anyone hyping up Rodgers like what is going on with Love now. Fans dogpiled on him constantly and I don't remember any national media being behind him. Made all the worse as Favre still had partisans/old guard in Wisconsin media that gladly stirred the pot against Rodgers and/or TT.  Even after showing he belonged in 2008, it still wasn't enough for some.

@2:10:35  Rodgers scrambles on 2nd & 10 to make it 3rd & 1. Collinsworth rips into Rodgers for not diving head first even though he's being pursued by a Bears player and another two have him dead to rights and cites Elways spin dive at the end of Super Bowl XXXII as example of what Rodgers should have done.

You'd see his number painted on barns all over the place.

This place was a semi-horror show with all the Favre can do no wrong crowd.

We had to have multiple moderators that were very active to try and keep posters off each other's throats. Zero had to step away a bit because he would get blamed for being pro one side or another.

Pack93z,  myself,  Nonstopdrivel rode herd on the bullshit vitriol that posters that wanted to give Rodgers a chance endured from the Favre zealots. It was kind of ugly, even in here.

Nowadays, we have our occasional blow-ups between posters, but nothing like that.
It was almost hourly back then.

We got Wayne now to keep our asses in line!

He was actually a very good moderator, and a very early adopter of Aaron Rodgers. He did not let that color his moderation, imo
He is also a very early adopter of Jordan Love.

He is also an interesting fellow, lol

I also lost my shit because the media kept twisting things around and fans were running amok with it as if it were fact. I would prove it false and then I was an idiot sheep or whatever. Only to be vindicated by each item years later. I am so thankful the departure of Aaron Rodgers went as smooth as it did. I don't know if my last remaining hair follicles would have survived!!

Well, we were ALL as moderators moderated by Shawn, aka Pack93z. His level headedness was an example to all.

He and I were members of P.P.O. in addition to here.

What's PPO, you might ask. 🤔

Purple Pride . ORG

THE largest Vikings discussion board at the time, by far.

My role? Obnoxious shit stirring Packer fan asshole

His role? (Also a complete total Packer fan)

MODERATOR

On the (again) biggest Vikings discussion board.

Those velociraptors allowed and supported a Packer fan to moderate their discussions.
That's how even-keeled he was.

I miss him here, though we have got some cameo appearances.

Just wanted to give a very good man a shout out

Zero2Cool (22h) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
Mucky Tundra (22h) : rough injury for tank dell. guy can't catch abreak
beast (21-Dec) : So far the college playoffs have sucked... One team absolutely dominates the other
beast (21-Dec) : Well even if you weren't positive towards a guy, you wouldn't nessarily want to tell the media that (if they don't know about it)
Martha Careful (21-Dec) : I think MLF want Love to look past the end half issues, and feel good about his play. Our coaches generally keep a very positive tone.
beast (21-Dec) : I think a great running game will do that for most QBs
packerfanoutwest (21-Dec) : Coach Matt LaFleur has said quarterback Jordan Love is playing the best football of his career.
beast (21-Dec) : Oh, that's how you keep beating buckeye, with cheating
Zero2Cool (20-Dec) : There is a rule that if your name starts with 'b' you lose 15 points. Hey, I don't make the rules, I just enforce them!
wpr (20-Dec) : and then there is Beast. Running away with it all.
beast (20-Dec) : As of tonight, 3 way tie for 2nd in Pick'em, that battle is interesting!
beast (20-Dec) : Lions vs Vikings could be the main last game as it could determine division winners or #1 vs #2 seed
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : Or if KC needs to win for the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : Right now it looks like the only prime worthy games are Det-Minny and KC-Denver (if Denver can clinch a wild card spot)
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : The entirety of week 18 being listed as flex is weird
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Matt LaFleur today says unequivocally "Ted Thompson had nothing to do with the drafting of Jordan Love."
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Apparently, the editing is what pieces comments together. That Ted thing ... fake news.
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : LaFleur "opportunity that Ted Thompson thought was too good to pass up"
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Jordan Love pick was Ted Thompson's idea.
Mucky Tundra (19-Dec) : Kyle Shanahan on signing De'Vondre Campbell as a FA last offseason: “We obviously made a mistake.”
packerfanoutwest (19-Dec) : Alexander’s last season with GB
Martha Careful (18-Dec) : if I were a professional athlete, I would probably look to see who the agent is for Kirk Cousins and then use him
beast (18-Dec) : $100 million fully guaranteed Kirk Cousins gets benched for rookie
Mucky Tundra (18-Dec) : a lower case b
Mucky Tundra (18-Dec) : The real lie is how beast capitalized his name in his message while it's normally spelled with
packerfanoutwest (18-Dec) : haha that's a lie
beast (17-Dec) : Despite what lies other might tell, Beast didn't hate the Winter Warnings, it felt refreshing to Beast for some reason.
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : whiteout uniforms in general are pretty lame and weak. NFL greed at it's worst
Martha Careful (17-Dec) : The Viking uniforms, the whiteout uniforms specifically absolutely suck
beast (17-Dec) : Thanks Zero2Cool, looks a lot better now
beast (17-Dec) : Seems like someone has a crush on me, can't stop talking about me
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : Should be gooder now. The forum default theme went to goofy land.
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : What the hell
packerfanoutwest (17-Dec) : yeah beast hates the Winter Warning Unies
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Okay I'm glad to know it's not just something happening to me lol
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Zero, did you copy the Packers uniforms from last night and white out the board?
beast (16-Dec) : Oh crap, is the board going to the Winter Warning Uniforms too?!? It's all white on white right now!
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : WR Odell Beckham Jr is officially a free agent after clearing waivers.
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : Packers are 6th in sacks.
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : RB David Montgomery will undergo season-ending knee surgery.
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Dan Campbell on onside kick with 12 minutes left: In hindsight, wish I didn’t do that
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : They have that whole 12th man thing so ...
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : Of the times we've played there, I just can't recall hearing our fans.
wpr (16-Dec) : Well done jdlax. Well done.
wpr (16-Dec) : I think more likely to be Pack fans that live in the area.
wpr (16-Dec) : Pack fans represent. I pointed it out early in the game to my wife. Announcers said Packers travel well.
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : That was crazy to hear go pack go in Seattle of all plays. That 12 man thing an all
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : jdlax, good man!
jdlax (16-Dec) : Mucky, there were too many of us there to credit any single one but for sure i was 60% responsible.
