I think the problem for McCarthy last year in some of these games boiled down to the inconsistant pass blocking. The prime scenario for this came against Houston after we got screwed on the holding call backing the ball up to the 30+ yard line. McCarthy does call pass there and Arod never has a chance. Sack. Out of FG range.

"warhawk" wrote:

A-Rod has to be quicker in his progression then. Also we were stuck using another TE to block thus making it one less weapon on the field. Should have been addresed in last years off-season. They made their bed.

Against the Vikings Arod got the dog pressured out of him the whole game. You can say well, throw it quick then, but you don't think the Vikes know that's all he's going to be able to do and won't be ready for it? I could see what McCarthy was worried about there. We send Arod back to pass and he get's sacked we're out of FG range. I mean that was going on the whole game. Clifton barely touched Allen that night.

"warhawk" wrote:

Exactly. THat was the difference between Brett and A-Rod. In 07 we had the same problem and Brett could hit the quick slant. It may come in time for A-Rod I hope.

I thought the Bears game was more of a clock management decision. When your inside the opposing 30 with under two minutes to go you run the clock down but hope somebody breaks loose. You throw a couple incomplete passes there even if you then hit the FG you leave the other team with time for a FG to win. I absolutely believe McCarthy calls this differently if there were three, four minutes left in this game.

"warhawk" wrote:

That sounds like a trust issue between A-Rod and Mike McCarthy thing then. You have to be able to check down if nothing is open even if it is for 1 yard, it keeps the clock running.

I don't think this makes him a bad or conservative play caller at all. He called the three plays in those two games that with the time left and circumstances gave the team the best and most realistic chance to win.

"warhawk" wrote:

It wasn't the same playcalling he used in 07 when he had success. He lacked any sort of confidence in his team.

LOL @ he has to get the ball out quicker in that Texan game..The play in question sack that pushed them out of fg range he had no time!

He turned, and went to plant his foot and the guy was on him..that is not his fault

I wish Zero would have that low-light on his game tapes, but he doesnt

Minnesota game? Clifton got OWNED by Allen the entire game..The one safety was for sure Rodgers fault, but not to sure of the of the other one..Seems to me that Brett had just as much trouble in that dome if not during his time there..So why didnt the quick slant help Brett in those huge losses in Minny?

Why would he lack confidence in an offense that had the #1 rated q.b in the red zone?

I will make this simple for people to understand. Mike McCarthy in 2007 had a seasoned vet that has seen every possible defense thrown at him so he would do alot of changing the plays at the line. Mike McCarthy stated last year that when Rodgers gets to the line he has a run/pass option on what he reads from the defense. It will be something Rodgers will have to learn to survive. But you people have to understand that. Brett did alot of play calling at the line in 2007 we saw tons of slants and last year we didn't see that many. Also i seen a poster say in the Texan game he didn't have time to throw by the time he got back and turned around the guy was there, in 2007 that play would have been one back step slant pass. So you guys can try and tear this apart all you want but it seems pretty simple to me. Brett made the line look alot better than it actually was, and in time who knows maybe Rodgers can do the same thing.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think a lot of people failed to realize that Clifton's play really took a nosedive last year. He gave up more sacks and more pressure than any of his previous years.

Of course you have to blame Aaron for some of the mistakes of holding on to the ball too long, but Clifton's play had something to do with it.

I just hope Chad makes it through this season healthy and his play goes back to the Chad we used to know.

The o-line cost us not just in pass protection, but in running plays too.
If that doesn't get better, we will suffer again this year.
I think our D will be alot better, which hopefully will keep teams from just cutting loose on our O.

Perfectly put. It's not a dig on A-Rod but Brett had the experience to make split second decisions AND see things developing before the play started.

It's a 100% completely valid thing. Sure you can look at stats all day long but in the end there is that IT factor that Brett possessed.

Yes, perfectly put, if you're a monkey who doesn't grasp the simple concepts of football.

It is true, Brett's experience gave him more outs than Aaron. Brett didn't make the line better, didn't make them look better. Brett was able to make quicker adjustments at the line which allowed him to rid the ball quicker. He didn't give himself more time. Rather, he did MORE with the LESS time than Aaron.

Which, I mean, is OBVIOUS. One player who's played 16 years at that time? 15? Versus a guy playing his first year starting. Of course theres going to be a huge difference. It sure as hell wouldn't have won us 7 more games last year or even 2 for that matter.

Aaron does hold onto the ball too long, in my opinion. That will come with experience though.

Now that piss contest is settled and OVER, move BACK to the subject of this thread.

Ted Thompson and/or Mike McCarthy fired? What are you thoughts on TED THOMPSON and/or MIKE MCCARTHY getting poop canned?

I'm losing my patience with all these threads cluttered up with Brett so please keep that in mind before you derail another thread, punkasses! :)
