https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/04/30/deion-sanders-is-ashamed-of-31-nfl-teams-for-not-drafting-any-hbcu-players/

I'm not even going to post the quotes, but I don't understand why these current or former HBCU (historically black college or university) head coaches keep coming up with conspiracy theories that the NFL is specifically targeting their schools to hold them and their school down...

Seems like they're trying to play the race card, but (and I could be wrong) but aren't most of the draft picks black?

If you want more of your players drafted then recruit, coach and develop better... teams don't seem to care where the talent comes from... heck, they have even occasionally drafted some players from the NCAA basketball and Canadian colleges (both of which are considered lower tiers of developing NFL players).

It's complaining for the sake of complaining. NFL would draft green men if they thought it would help them win. To get 32 teams to agree to not draft these players is next to impossible. This claim is simply moronic.

Less a conspiracy and more the fact that HBCU are no longer a refuge for black players barred from predominantly white colleges. In addition, the immense money and prestige from college football programs means no stone goes unturned these days (and all the documented problems this can cause). If you can play ball, a major university is going to take you. Throw in national exposure thanks to the internet and satellite tv, you can go to a East Carolina, LSU Tech or Northern Iowa and get to the NFL.

it's also a bit hypocritical on Sanders part seeing as he bailed on Jackson State and took over 30 of their players with him to Colorado. He also denied the Detroit Lions the film of a player who started at Jackson State before transferring to Florida when they drafted him.

That is why for a white guy having a black head coach, it's meaningless, but for a black person to have a black head coach it is huge.

Whenever I turn the TV on. I see the minorities represented very well. Which is great, not complaining at all, but it's definitely not equal in the demographic sense. And it just makes it feel weird when the race card feels to be pulled more and more.

The crowd that says the NFL is ~80% black players but only one team with black ownership NEEDS to change. They don't say there should be more white players, more Asian players, nope, they say there should be more black owners. Shouldn't population demographics be considered here when punching down?

I dislike it all. I just wish people would be hired based on qualifications alone, nothing more, nothing less. Not hired to fit some statistic or whatever.

Anyhow, the percentage of college players that makes the NFL is incredibly low. In fact, just 1.6 percent of college players will become a professional in the NFL. So the other 98.4 percent of players in college right now will not have their dream realized.

Something else I was thinking about this morning. In order for Snders whining to be valid he would have to show how these players that were not taken are better than the ones who were.

GMs get fired for not fielding a winning team. Zero chance they won't take the player that THEY feel is best. Zero chance that an owner will tell his GM not to take a player from those schools AND the GM tells him no or that it doesn't leak to the press. Remember how Flores claimed he was told to lose games? It would get out.

Can you imagine Jerry Jones taking a pass on a HBCU player? Dan Snyder playiing nice with all the other owners?

This is what is so frustrating with society today. People make claims that are not true. There is no way to substanciate them. And yet they gain traction and are considered legit instead of being dismissed as the ravings of a person who needs mental help.

Actually, I have it on good authority that MLK Jr. left off part of what he was going to say in his "I have a dream" speech.

What he was going to say was

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character and their RAS score.

Somehow, the last phrase was edited out....alas
Go Packers!!!!

I saw a big post how it was like 23 players went to the portal and they made a huge deal but didn't mention he has the largest group of transfers coming to Colorado and actually have the highest grades to the other schools. He has people leaving Bama and Florida and Michigan to go play for him.

Also I think the point that is being missed here and that he is doing what every coach should be doing and bragging up his players as that shows he cares for them, and by doing that he will get the better players. And he did bring 2 conference championships and in 3 years he was 27-6 and 19-2 in conference and the last 2 years was undefeated in conference. I say thats pretty good.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Zero2Cool (9h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (9h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (11h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (12h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (12h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you
wpr (13h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (13h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (13h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (13h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (14h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (14h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (14h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (14h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (14h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
