This to me is a stupid move.

We gave up 3 selections for THIS guy? Really?

This is a guy we could of got at 41 IMO.

I like the Raji selection, but THREE draft choices for a guy who wasn't even looked at as a top 10 pick. I also prefer Everette Brown.. and please don't tell me he's a clone of Jamal Reynolds only because they went to the same school..

Now we won't see ourselves picking until the fourth round.. great.

41,73,83 ... GREAT LINEUP.. GONE

NOT TO MENTION THE PICK WE GOT FOR A HALL OF FAME QUARTERBACK IS GOING TO THE PATRIOTS.

One of the stupidest moves I've ever seen. Sorry!

I'm with Nick - So this guy is worth 2 3rds? and ya we could of gotten him at 41 I bet.

We lost out on some good OTs in the 2nd and 3rd now. IMO Clint sintim would of been much better.

People are being kind of stupid about this. One of those thirds we got for a QB who freaking retired. It was a free pick. Does that mean its okay to throw it away? No, but some retards are acting like we gave up a shit load to get that second 3rd rounder. We got it for a player who RETIRED!

With that said, I'd rather have had the trade go like this.
1st for our 2nd and highest 3rd.
or
1st, 3rd for our 2nd and both 3rds.

I don't like that we don't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Ted usually hits well on those. With this trade I'm thinking we have more going on behind the scenes. There will be more trades.

Also, let's keep this thread about Clay Matthews please.

Here's our chance to see who was left at 41 and later.

41. Darius Butler (CB) UConn
42. Jairus Byrd (CB) Oregon
43. Everette Brown (DE) Florida St
44. Pat White (WR) W Virginia
45. Clint Sintim (OLB) Virginia
46. Connor Barwin (DE) Cincy

Still Available at our positions of need:

Paul Kruger OLB UTAH
Cody Brown OLB UCONN
Tyrone McKenzie OLB S FLORIDA

Connor Barwin DE CINCY
Lawrence Sidbury DE RICHMOND
Michael Johnson DE GA TECH
David Veikune DE HAWAII

William Beatty OT UCONN
Phil Loadholt OT OKLAHOMA
Jamon Meredith OT S CAROLINA

Jarron Gilbert DT SAN JOSE ST
Fili Moala DT USC
Sen'Derrick Marks DT AUBURN

The guys in bold will be the ones that Matthews will probably be compared with in the future because they play the same position and were drafted where the Packers would have been in the second. I liked Everette Brown (high character, high productivity) even at 9 (YIKES!) but like the PACK I worry about his coverage skills. A ot of people hear like Sintim and Barwin so it should be fun to watch how this plays out.

Let's contextualize giving up three draft picks.

Colts GM Bill Polian, whose been scouting players for three decades, called this the weakest draft class he has ever seen.

Think about that for a minute. The man whose been doing this for 30+ years said this is the weakest draft class he's ever been a part of.

If I'm not mistaken, Phil Savage was also quoted as saying to Bob McGinn that this class really lacked solid prospects. I'm not sure if Savage said this too, but I remember reading some scout / personnel guy say that the increased number of 3-4 teams were going to cause a run of OLBs that would lead most OLBs to go higher than they deserved to.

Three draft picks are a lot, especially for Ted. But think about what others like Bill Polian have said about the (lack of) depth in this draft class, and realize that Ted making such a move is uncharacteristic as hell.

IMO Ted went and got value where he could.

Agreed they wanted Matthews not Brown or anyone else at that point. This was their guy, so you get him.

Interesting comments. I heard someone talking on NFL channel about how little the talent is in the draft. I did not see who was speaking so it could have been Polian. I do not know. His comment was the 1st thing I thought of when Ted made the move up instead of down like he usually does.
The Bears traded their 2nd for a 3rd and 4th. The way I see it is GB traded their 2nd and 3rd for Matthews which would appear to be the going rate. I said a few days ago that I would rather have 1 above average player who makes an impact than 2 or 3 average or roster fillers. I will jsut trust the GB Brass that Clay is since I don't know myself.

Since the "Brett pick" was acquired for a "retired" player it didn't matter to Ted if New England insisted on that pick as well. Getting the 5th in return still gave them something for a man who would never play in GB again.

I can not imagine that a GM of any professional team would use a # 1 pick based on old family ties of any kind.

I am sure Clay can be a pass rush specialist. I do not know yet if he is an every down NFL type LB.

Of course it wasn't nepotism or cronyism - those who are inclined to bag on Thompson just have to complain about something. He traded up - he filled a position of need - he did several things today that they deride him for not doing. So what's left to criticize, you ask? They'll find it.

As for the pick, the more I think about it, the more I like it - he looks to be just the kind of versatile guy you want to compliment Kampman, and he's a high motor guy. Obviously they all must like him, and I would imagine they were pretty sure someone else did too and wanted to make sure they got him.

The scouts seem to like the pick, and we did need another OLB - I'm okay with it.

I don't get it........TT gathers up draft picks, people rag on him for gathering up alot of picks.
He gives up some picks (opposite of what he has done in the past) to go after someone he wanted, and people rag on him.

What does all this prove?

Those that hate him, will hate him NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES.

As far as making the leap that he picked Matthews because he's the kid of someone he knows is proof how far some will go in their "conspiracy" theories.
Yeah......makes ALOT of sense, doesn't it? TT: "Hey......I'm gonna give up a bunch of picks cause i know old so-and-so! Who CARES if he will help our team, and help me keep my job!"
Lame.....just plain lame.

I find this effing funny..

1st we have people yelling and screaming at Ted and staff for not OVER SPENDING on players in free agency.

Now we have a player that Ted and staff believe is worth the price of draft picks and they "over pay" in draft picks to get him, and now people are pissed at Ted for doing that

Some people are never happy
