Why is it that I always feel like I have to roll the dice on a questionable fart when I'm out working or doing something, and never when I'm at home? I guess doing it at home removes that sense of adventure. It's just not quite as big of a gamble...

I don't know how any GM could justify paying Peppers $16 million a year, in the sense that doing so would make Peppers the highest-paid player on this roster -- by a long margin. Surely that would skew things strangely.

Perhaps he would get a big signing bonus of something close to 16 million, but if that was the case, his cap figure would significantly decrease the very next year.

I'm not expert. But the argument that signing on big time free agent will cause us to lose some of our significant players that we want to keep just isn't totally valid. With the proper management, it could work. Perhaps we wouldn't have close to 30 million in cap room for a couple of years, but I would be willing to be it would only be a couple of years and we would be right back down there again, if we wanted.

I'm not necessarily picking on Ted Thompsons approach, especially when it takes us to a 13-3 record and an NFC Championship game. However, the glaring holes last year and the lack of quality depth at some positions is troubling to me. It would be nice to see Ted Thompson trying to do everything he could do to improve this team. I think adding ONE solid starter via free agency would be more then ok when our defensive line is shaky at best, questions at both offensive tackles, along with a few other questions lingering. I truly believe we have a talented team that can go deep into the playoffs, as long as 1 or 2 or our holes are addressed. I will gladly eat my words if Ted is able to sure up these questions via the draft but it's not an unreasonable concern considering the depth at some our our positions.

Like I said, I still think it's a greater risk going about things Ted's way then adding one solid starter via free agency. But, it's Ted career, not mine. Not my decision. All I can do is hope it works.
